Thackley

Thackley railway station was a railway station in Thackley, West Yorkshire, England.

Thackley A.F.C. are a football club based in Thackley, north Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. The club plays in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division. Their home ground is the ‘Thank You Key Workers Stadium at Dennyfield’ and the primary colours of club are red and white.

Bradford City AFC Women is an English women's football club which represents the city of Bradford, West Yorkshire. Founded in 1988, they currently play in the North East Regional Women's Football League Premier Division, and have competed in the Women's National League since promotion from the Northern Combination Women's Football League in 2013. Previously under the title of Bradford City Women's FC, the club announced its merger with Bradford City AFC in January 2021, through the Community Foundation, and has since adopted the name Bradford City AFC Women and Girls After realigning the club with its former junior girls set up, Bradford City AFC Women has a player pathway from Under 9's through to Senior Football. A new Under 23's Development Team was launched for the 2021–22 season, with an aim of providing a stronger pathway for the young women of Bradford to play National League football.

Thackley Tunnel is on the Airedale line between Leeds and Shipley on the lines to Bradford and Skipton. Completed in 1846 and opened on 30 June, the tunnel is approximately 1,300 yards (1,200 m) long through Thackley Hill. The contractor was James Bray, an iron and brass founder from Leeds who later contracted the construction of the Bramhope Tunnel on the Leeds to Thirsk main line.As built, the single tunnel bore contained a pair of lines. In 1900, the railway was increased to four tracks, with two lines in a second tunnel. One tunnel carried the fast lines from Leeds and the other the slow lines. In 1968, the southern tunnel was closed, coinciding with the closure of the Great Northern Branch Line from Shipley to Laisterdyke via Idle and Thackley. The northern tunnel is in use. The disused tunnel is periodically maintained.

The Idle Working Men's Club is a working men's club in the village of Idle, a suburb of Bradford in West Yorkshire, England. The club was established in 1928 by workmen from a local sewage works who found that their shift working arrangements and the pub licensing hours left them unable to have a drink after work. The humorous pun in the club's name has attracted interest from around the world. The club has benefited by granting honorary memberships to people who would not normally fit its criteria for membership. Present honorary members include Mohammed Al Fayed, Paul Gascoigne, Uri Geller and Lester Piggott. Richard Whiteley, Michael Jackson, Tom O'Connor and Roger Moore were also honorary members.In keeping with the tradition of many working men's clubs, Idle Working Men's Club supports a number of charities, most notably the children's cancer charity Candlelighters.

Idle railway station was a short-lived station serving Idle, near Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. It was built by the Leeds and Bradford Railway in 1847, but it was closed the next year. It was located near the west entrance of the Thackley Tunnel. This station was very much closer to Thackley than to Idle. Later, in 1875 another Idle station was built, on the Great Northern Railway's Shipley Windhill Line.

Idle and Thackley is a ward within the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council in the county of West Yorkshire, England, named after the villages of Idle and Thackley around which it is drawn. The population of 14,541 according to the 2001 UK census had increased at the 2011 Census to 16,135.As well as the villages of Idle and Thackley, the ward includes the villages of Apperley Bridge, Greengates, a small part of the Thorpe Edge housing estate, and a part of Little London near Rawdon.

Esholt Sewage Works Railway was a standard gauge works railway constructed in 1910 to serve a sewage works in Esholt, West Yorkshire, England. The works were built to remove wool-grease and other wastes from effluent coming out of the many mills of the Bradford woollen district. At its peak, the railway extended to 22 miles (35 km) of track served by 11 locomotives, as well as a shorter section of narrow gauge railway served by three engines. Trains were employed to remove solid waste from the site; several of the engines were converted to run on oil derived from recovered wool-grease. The railway was closed completely in 1977, but the sewage works continues to operate.
