It was conspicuous for hosting touring Jazz acts in the late 1930s and in the 1940s.,, It is now a standard on the London Live Circuit. It was a popular watering hole, and host to many jam sessions including such artists as Eric Clapton, CBE, Shirley Collins, Frank Turner, Gallows, The Stupids, June Tabor or The Rolling Stones. Since 1992, it is also a live-audience training platform and term assessments venue for Kingston University's Drama and Music students.,,

Kingston-upon-Thames (spelt with hyphens) was a local government district in north east Surrey, England from 1835 to 1965 around the town now known as Kingston upon Thames. It was alternatively known as Kingston on Thames (spelt with or without hyphens). It was a municipal borough and also held the rarer status of Royal borough. The district was abolished in 1965 and was replaced with the larger London Borough of Kingston upon Thames in Greater London, with the Royal borough status passed to the new district.

Kingston Museum is an accredited museum in Kingston upon Thames, southwest London, England. The Scottish-American philanthropist Andrew Carnegie funded the building of the museum, which adjoins Kingston Library. The museum runs a programme of temporary exhibitions and events; entry is free of charge. Built in 1904, the museum has three permanent exhibitions: "Ancient Origins" details the borough's past from prehistory to Anglo-Saxon times; "Town of Kings" charts Kingston's development as a market town from the medieval period until the 1940s; and "Eadweard Muybridge" presents material related to the noted photographer, a native of Kingston.

Outside the Box is a comedy club located in the backroom of The Fighting Cocks pub in Kingston-upon-Thames. It was opened in November 2006 by comedian Maff Brown. Three months after attending a comedy course in the summer of 2006, Brown established the club in order to test his own material before taking it around the comedy circuit. Over the years, the comedy club has extended to various locations in and around London, and there are now regular shows in Kingston-upon-Thames, Sevenoaks, Hampton, Surbiton and Windsor The club is currently used by celebrity comedians to road test newly written work. Notable comics who have performed include: The Kingston club holds 80 people and runs on a weekly basis. All other nights, such as the Sevenoaks club, hold 300-400 people but run monthly.

The Hundred of Kingston or Kingston Hundred was an ancient hundred in the north east of the county of Surrey, England. Its area has been mostly absorbed by the growth of London; with its name currently referring to both the suburban town of Kingston upon Thames and the larger Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. Its former area now corresponds to that borough and part of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in Greater London and part of the borough of Elmbridge in Surrey. It bordered the Hundred of Brixton to the east, the Hundred of Elmbridge to the south, and to the west and north by the River Thames.It contained the following parishes: Chessington (until 1610) Esher (part) Ham with Hatch (created in 1866 from part of Kingston upon Thames) Hook (created in 1866 from part of Kingston upon Thames) Kew Kingston upon Thames Long Ditton Malden Petersham Richmond Thames Ditton (part, from 1769)In Domesday Book it is recorded as containing Kingston, Petersham, Long Ditton, Thames Ditton, and Malden. In 1871 the hundred is described as containing six parishes and part of another. It was cut into two divisions; the first was 6,655 acres (26.93 km2) and the second was 3,618. The population in 1851 was 15,773 in the first division and 2,421 in the second. Ten years later the population was 22,997; an increase of over 2,000.

Kingston upon Thames was an ancient parish in the county of Surrey, England. By 1839 it contained these chapelries, curacies or ecclesiastical parishes which eventually became civil parishes in their own right: It follows from the above list of chapelries and the hamlet of Hook, frequently listed in the medieval age that, well before the Conquest, the ancient parish was the Kingston hundred (of Surrey). There soon was a southern exception to this. By the 1086 snapshot of the Domesday Book, Long Ditton (which included exclave Tolworth east of Hook hamlet) had a fully-fledged church likely gaining its independence around that time as recorded throughout the high medieval age and onwards. Nipper (1884 – September 1895) was a dog from Bristol, England, who served as the model for an 1898 painting by Francis Barraud titled His Master's Voice. Kingston railway station is in Kingston upon Thames in south-west London. It is 12 miles 9 chains (19.5 km) down the line from London Waterloo. The station and all trains serving it are operated by South Western Railway. It is in Travelcard Zone 6.

Kingston Grammar School is an independent co-educational day school in Kingston upon Thames, England. The school was founded by royal charter in 1561 but can trace its roots back to at least the 13th century. It is a registered charity under English law. It was a boys' school from its foundation until 1978, when the first girls were admitted. In 2018 the GCSE results recorded 85% of grades were A*/A or 9–7, and at A-level 62.7% of all grades were A or A*. In 2008 the Good Schools Guide described the school as "An academic school with a modern edge".

Tiffin School is a boys' grammar school in Kingston upon Thames, England. It has specialist status in both the performing arts and languages. The school moved from voluntary aided status to become an Academy School on 1 July 2011. Founded in 1880, Tiffin School educates 1,400 pupils as of March 2023.

Eden Walk is an open precinct shopping centre in Kingston upon Thames, Greater London, England. It opened in 1968, predating The Bentall Centre by two decades.

The Bentall Centre is a large shopping centre in Kingston upon Thames, Greater London, England, which opened in 1992. It has been built in the retail space of Bentalls department store, opened in 1935. Bentalls, now part of the Fenwick group, retains a large premium department store in the renovated building. The centre is located adjacent to John Lewis Kingston, as well as the historic market town centre. There are 82 stores within the centre.
