The Magnolia Hotel Houston is a hotel located at 1100 Texas Avenue, in downtown Houston, Texas. It was the tallest building in Houston from 1926 to 1927. The building once served as headquarters for the Shell Oil Company, and later home to The Houston Post-Dispatch.

The Houston Post-Dispatch Building, located at 609 Fannin in Houston, Texas, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 14, 2002.

609 Main at Texas (also referred to as Hines North Tower, Block 69) is a skyscraper in Houston, Texas. Construction began in 2014.The 48-story skyscraper, designed by the architecture firm Pickard Chilton, listed United Airlines as its anchor tenant. Built by Hines Development group, the building is rated LEED Platinum."It's one of the more ambitious skyscrapers developed downtown in years," Allyn West wrote in the Houston Chronicle. From the freeway, it "appears a handsome, shiny, elegant guy. Maybe my favorite view of it happens when I'm heading south from the Heights on I-45, as the building emerges almost shyly between the new Market Square Tower and JPMorgan Chase."

The Federal Detention Center, Houston (FDC Houston) is a United States federal prison in Downtown Houston, Texas which holds male and female inmates prior to and during court proceedings, as well an inmates serving short sentences. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. It is in proximity to Minute Maid Park.The facility, opened in October 1999, has space for 1,118 prisoners and was built for $35 million. The 11 story facility serves people awaiting trial in the Southern District of Texas.

The Paul Building is a high-rise office building located at 1018 Preston Avenue in Houston, Texas. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 6, 1979. Completed in 1907, the building has been home to a wide range of businesses and professionals. It housed the United States District Court in 1910, and with its proximity to the county courthouse, it became a popular location for attorneys. Its tenants have also included a newspaper, and the Y.M.C.A. The building changed its name to the Hoffman Building in 1918 and then to the Turnbow Building in 1927. It has been known as the Republic Building since 1923.The building is eight stories tall, built of brown brink with load bearing walls. Terra cotta ornamentation includes several cartouches with a raised "P" representing the original owner, Allen Paul.

The Scanlan Building, located at 405 Main Street in Houston, Texas, is an eleven-story, 76,403sq.ft building completed in 1909. Built on the site of the first official home of the president of the Republic of Texas, it was the first building of its size and type to be designed by a major national architect to be built in Houston, and set the style for future construction in the area. It is the only known office building in Houston which was designed by D.H. Burnham & Company of Chicago. The building was the first to be built higher than ten stories, breaking the limit preferred by Houston developer Jesse H. Jones.The building was first envisioned by Thomas Howe Scanlan, two-time mayor of Houston, to be built on the property he owned at Main and Preston streets. After his death in 1906, his seven daughters built the building as a memorial to him. Approximately 85 feet by 101 feet, the building was among the first in Houston to use a fireproof steel skeleton.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 23, 1980.

The State National Bank Building is a high-rise office building located at 412 Main Street in downtown Houston, Texas. Designed by architect Alfred Charles Finn, the building was built in 1923 in the Spanish colonial style. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 11, 1982.

The Texas Company Building, located at 1111 Rusk (720 Jacinto) in Houston, Texas, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 2, 2003.The 13-story structure opened in 1915 as home of the Texas Company. The New York firm of Warren and Wetmore designed the building in the Renaissance Revival style with Beaux-Arts accents. The exterior is faced with brick, terra cotta and Bedford limestone and features vaulted arcades supported by Tuscan columns along its Rusk and San Jacinto Street façades. The Texas Company became Texaco in 1959 and continued to occupy the building until 1989 when it moved to another facility. To accommodate growth, the company expanded the structure three times between 1936 and 1975.Since the building became vacant, developers proposed several plans to reuse it, however none were successful. In 2011, a development consortium created a plan for approximately 300 apartments with retail space and parking. They began work in 2013 and have demolished part of the structure but kept the 13-story section, the 1936 annex and the 16-story expansion added in 1958. Eventual plans call for a 38-story tower behind the historic structure.The management expects to open the completed building at the end of 2015.

The Rice, formerly the Rice Hotel, is an historic building at 909 Texas Avenue in Downtown Houston, Texas, United States. The current building is the third to occupy the site. It was completed in 1913 on the site of the former Capitol building of the Republic of Texas, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The old Capitol building was operated as a hotel until it was torn down and replaced by a new hotel around 1881. Jesse H. Jones built a new seventeen-story, double-winged hotel in 1913, also called "The Rice Hotel." This building underwent major expansions: adding a third wing in 1925, adding an eighteenth floor in 1951, and adding a five-story "motor lobby" in 1958. In addition, there were several renovations during its life as a hotel. It continued to operate as a hotel before finally shutting down in 1977. After standing vacant for twenty-one years, The Rice was renovated as apartments and reopened in 1998 as the Post Rice Lofts. It was sold in 2014 and renamed simply The Rice.

The Henry Brashear Building is a Victorian-era commercial building at 910 Prairie Avenue in downtown Houston. The building was completed in 1882 under the direction of architect, Eugene T. Heiner. It was restored in 1990 and designated as a Houston landmark in 2009.

The S. H. Kress and Co. Building, or simply the Kress Building, is located at 705 Main Street in Houston, Texas. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 4, 2002.The eight-story building is covered almost entirely in terra cotta. A 1983 renovation removed the Kress signage and other architectural features of its retail past, but the building retains the character of a 1913 skyscraper, one of several built in downtown Houston at the time. This S. H. Kress & Co. building was one of the largest the company built, and one of the few to incorporate professional offices.

The Capitol Lofts is a building located at 711 Main Street in downtown Houston, Texas. Constructed in 1908, the building was originally used for office space and was converted to residential lofts in the 1990s. The building was the tallest building in Houston and Texas until being surpassed by the Praetorian Building in Dallas, Texas as the tallest building in Texas in 1909. It remained the tallest in Houston until 1910 when surpassed by the Carter Building. Designed by architect Alfred C. Finn, the building's original facade was covered with granite and glass in the 1980s.
