The Larz Anderson Bonsai Collection at the Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts is one of the premier collections of bonsai in the United States and includes a Hinoki Cypress over 250 years old.The Bonsai Pavilion where the trees are housed are part of the complex of buildings known as the Dana Greenhouses. The collection is on display from mid-April to the end of October. As the bonsai trees are deciduous, they are held in cold storage at temperatures slightly above freezing throughout the winter.

Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital (BWFH) is a 171-bed, non-profit community teaching hospital located in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 1900, it is located in the neighborhood of Jamaica Plain across the street from the Arnold Arboretum and just 3.4 miles (5.5 km) from Longwood Medical and Academic Area.Faulkner Hospital joined with Brigham and Women's Hospital in 1998 to form a common parent company, Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospitals, a member of Mass General Brigham (MGB). The resulting partnership offers Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital patients access to many of the same physicians and services as Brigham and Women's Hospital. "The Faulkner" (as it is popularly known) offers comprehensive medical, surgical and psychiatric care as well as complete emergency, outpatient and diagnostic services. The hospital's largest inpatient services are internal medicine, cardiology, psychiatry, orthopedics, gastroenterology and general/GI surgery. Effective October 1, 2012, Faulkner Hospital was renamed to Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital (BWFH).In 2022, state regulators approved a $2 billion expansion plan which MGB put forth, including a $150 million addition to the Faulkner campus. The project will add 78 new patient beds and is expected to be completed in 2025.

The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University is a botanical research institution and free public park, located in the Jamaica Plain and Roslindale neighborhoods of Boston, Massachusetts. Established in 1872, it is the oldest public arboretum in North America. The landscape was designed by Charles Sprague Sargent and Frederick Law Olmsted and is the second largest "link" in the Emerald Necklace. The Arnold Arboretum's collection of temperate trees, shrubs, and vines has an emphasis on the plants of the eastern United States and eastern Asia, where arboretum staff and colleagues are sourcing new material on plant collecting expeditions. The arboretum supports research in its landscape and in its Weld Hill Research Building.

The Hebrew Rehabilitation Center for the Aged is a nursing home in Boston.They facilitate medical research regarding aging, with results that have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine and covered by The New York Times. One of their departments is named the Center for Social Gerontological Research.Their research activities facilitated accreditation in 1971 by their state's Educational Facilities Authority of funding via the sale of bonds.

The Forest Hills disaster (also called the Forest Ridge disaster and the Bussey Bridge train disaster) was a railroad bridge accident that occurred on March 14, 1887, in the Roslindale section of Boston, Massachusetts.

Our Lady of the Annunciation Melkite Greek Catholic Cathedral in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, is a modern cathedral inspired by Byzantine architecture. It is the principal church of the Melkite Greek Catholic Eparchy of Newton, which encompasses the entire United States, the seat of its hierarch, currently Bishop Francois Beyrouti, and the parish church of the Melkite Greek Catholic community in Greater Boston. Its present structure and its status as a cathedral date to 1966; previous to that, Our Lady of the Annunciation Melkite Catholic Church was a parish church in the South End of Boston.

Melkite Greek Catholic Eparchy of Newton (Latin: Eparchia Neotoniensis Graecorum Melkitarum) is a Melkite Greek Catholic Church ecclesiastical territory of the Catholic Church. The eparchy is named for Newton, Massachusetts, and encompasses the entire United States. There are, however, currently about fifty Melkite parishes, missions, and "outreaches," in about two dozen states.

Ellen Henrietta Swallow Richards (née Swallow; December 3, 1842 – March 30, 1911) was an American industrial and safety engineer, environmental chemist, and university faculty member in the United States during the 19th century. Her pioneering work in sanitary engineering, and experimental research in domestic science, laid a foundation for the new science of home economics. She was the founder of the home economics movement characterized by the application of science to the home, and the first to apply chemistry to the study of nutrition.Richards graduated from Westford Academy (second oldest secondary school in Massachusetts) in 1862. She was the first woman admitted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She graduated in 1873 and later became its first female instructor. Richards was the first woman in America accepted to any school of science and technology, and the first American woman to obtain a degree in chemistry, which she earned from Vassar College in 1870.Richards was a pragmatic feminist, as well as a founding ecofeminist, who believed that women's work within the home was a vital aspect of the economy. At the same time, however, she did not directly challenge the prevailing cult of domesticity that valorized women's place and work in the home.

The Ellen H. Swallow Richards House is a National Historic Landmark house at 32 Eliot Street in Jamaica Plain, a neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. It was the home of Ellen Swallow Richards (1842–1911) from 1876 (shortly after her marriage to Robert Hallowell Richards) until her death. Richards was the first woman to graduate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and was its first female instructor. She introduced revolutionary ideas about home sanitation, and conducted pioneering work (some of it in this house) that led to the establishment of the field of home economics. The house itself was regularly altered as a consequence of her research, and was used by Richards as a consumer product testing laboratory. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1992.

Monument Square Historic District is a predominantly residential historic district north of Monument Square in Jamaica Plain, a neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. The 43 acres (17 ha) district is bounded on the northwest by Pond Street, the northeast by Myrtle and Pond Streets, the southeast by Centre Street (excluding the commercial properties on Centre Street itself), and Holbrook and Eliot Streets to the west. This area, originally developed as country estates, was developed as a residential area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its architecture reflecting a diversity of styles. Prominent non-residential buildings including the First Church of Jamaica Plain, Eliot Hall, and the Eliot School. Also included in the district is Jamaica Plain's Gothic Soldier's Monument, at the junction of South and Centre Streets.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 11, 1990.

The First Church of Jamaica Plain is a historic church at 6 Eliot Street in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. The stone Gothic Revival church was designed in 1854 by the well known Boston architect, Nathaniel J. Bradlee, for a congregation which was established in 1769 as the Third Church of Roxbury. It is built out of ashlar granite, laid in courses without ornament. It has a square tower with Gothic arched windows at the second level, a clock face at the third, and Gothic louvered openings at the belfry, and a parapeted top. A Shingle style parish hall was added in 1889. This new addition was designed by Cabot, Everett & Mead.The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, and included in the Monument Square Historic District in 1990.

Eliot Hall is a historic building at 7A Eliot Street in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, a neighborhood of Boston. It is sometimes referred to as "The Footlight Club," after "America's oldest community theatre," which owns and operates out of the building. Originally built in 1832 in Greek Revival/Italianate style, the hall was slated for demolition by the time the club's members purchased it in 1889. Since then it has served for over a century as the organization's home and performance venue. The Trustees of Eliot Hall were formed by the group in the 1980s to oversee renovations to the deteriorating building, saving it from closure, and in 1988 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.Currently, the hall is used as the offices and performance space of The Footlight Club, and is rented out by the club for private functions.
