Santa Ana Valley

Rancho Santa Ana was a 21,522-acre (87.10 km2) Mexican land grant in present day Ventura County, California given in 1837 by Governor Juan Alvarado to Crisogono Ayala and Cosme Vanegas. Rancho Santa Ana was located inland in the Ventura River Valley on the west side of the Ventura River across from Rancho Ojai which was granted in the same year. Rancho Santa Ana encompassed present day Lake Casitas and Oak View.

Lake Casitas is a reservoir in Ventura County, California, built by the United States Bureau of Reclamation and completed in 1959. The project provides drinking water and water for irrigation. A secondary benefit is flood control. It was the venue for canoeing and rowing at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Casitas Dam was constructed on Coyote Creek, two miles (3 km) before it joins the Ventura River. Santa Ana Creek and North Fork Coyote Creek also flow into the lake. The system was designed for water from the Ventura River to be diverted into a canal under specific conditions since the impounded watershed is not sufficient to fill the lake. The dam is 279 ft (85 m) creating a lake capacity of 254,000 acre⋅ft (313,000,000 m3). The dam was built as part of the Ventura River Project.

Casitas Dam is an earthfill dam across Coyote Creek that forms Lake Casitas in Ventura County, California near Oak View, California. The dam is located two miles (3 km) above the junction of Coyote Creek and the Ventura River. Water from the Ventura River is diverted to Lake Casitas as well. The 334 ft (102 m) structure was built by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. It is a key part of the Ventura River Project. Construction was completed in 1959 and was strengthened in June–December 2000 as a seismic improvement to help withstand earthquakes greater than 6.5. Lake Casitas has a 254,000 acre⋅ft (313,000,000 m3) storage capacity and provides irrigation and municipal uses for the Casitas Municipal Water District.

Oak View is an unincorporated community in Ventura County, California, United States. The community is located along the Ventura River in a narrow valley between the towns of Casitas Springs (south) and Mira Monte (north). Lake Casitas and the community of Ojai are also nearby. At the 2010 census, the population of Oak View was 4,066, down from 4,199 at the 2000 census, making it the third largest community between Ojai and the city of Ventura. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined Oak View as a census-designated place (CDP). The census definition of the area may not precisely correspond to local understanding of the area with the same name.

Mira Monte ( ; Spanish for "Mountain View") is a rural community in Ventura County, California, United States. Mira Monte is located in between the communities of Oak View, Meiners Oaks, and southwest of the City of Ojai, California. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined Mira Monte as a census-designated place (CDP). The census definition of the area may not precisely correspond to local understanding of the area with the same name. According to the 2020 census, the population of Mira Monte is 6,618, down from 6,845 at the 2010 census.

Casitas Springs ( ; Casitas, Spanish for "little houses") is an unincorporated community in Ventura County, California, located 1.2 miles (1.9 km) east of Lake Casitas. It is an old community which was recorded as Arroyo de Las Casitas (“creek of the little houses”) in 1864. It has a population of 1,038 as of 1999, down from 1,090 in 1990 Census. Casitas Springs is located along California State Route 33 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Oak View. It is known for its groves of eucalyptus trees along the highway.

Oak Grove School is a private, co-educational, day and boarding school in Ojai, California, United States. It was established in 1975 by Jiddu Krishnamurti and is part of the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.

Matilija Dam is a concrete arch dam in Ventura County, California, completed in 1947. Designed for water storage and flood control, it impounds Matilija Creek to create the Matilija Reservoir in the Los Padres National Forest, south of the Matilija Wilderness and north of Ojai.The drainage area above the damsite is 55 square miles (140 km2), and the reservoir had an original capacity of 7,018 acre⋅ft (8,657,000 m3). Matilija Creek flows on to become the main tributary of the Ventura River. Matilija was one of the Chumash rancherias under the jurisdiction of Mission San Buenaventura. According to Dartt-Newton and Erlandson writing in American Indian Quarterly, the name Chumash means "bead maker" or "seashell people" being that they originated near the Santa Barbara coast (Newton 416).

Meiners Oaks is an unincorporated community lying west of the city of Ojai in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 3,571 at the 2010 census. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined Meiners Oaks as a census-designated place (CDP).

Matilija Creek ( mə-TIL-i-hah) is a major stream in Ventura County in the U.S. state of California. It joins with North Fork Matilija Creek to form the Ventura River. Many tributaries feed the mostly free flowing, 17.3-mile (27.8 km) creek, which is largely contained in the Matilija Wilderness. Matilija was one of the Chumash rancherias under the jurisdiction of Mission San Buenaventura. The meaning of the Chumash name is unknown.

Ojala ( ; Spanish: Ojalá) is an unincorporated community in Ventura County, California, United States. Ojala is located along California State Route 33, 4.1 miles (6.6 km) northwest of Ojai. Ojala sits at the foot of Nordhoff Ridge in Los Padres National Forest. Ojala was once served by the smallest post office in the United States, which was the size of a phone booth. It can still be visited in neighboring Wheeler Springs, CA. Ojala was one of the first tourist attractions by Ojai Valley, primarily due to its natural hot springs.Ojala is Spanish and translates into "hopefully" or an expression of hope. The community of about 8 houses can only be reached by a single road.

KCAQ (95.9 FM, "Q95.9") is a commercial radio station that is licensed to Camarillo, California and serves the Ventura County area. The station is owned by Gold Coast Broadcasting and airs a rhythmic contemporary music format. KCAQ was simulcast on AM sister station KKZZ (1520 AM) in Port Hueneme until August 2019.
