St Michael and all Angels' Church, Alsop en le Dale is a Grade II listed parish church in the Church of England in Alsop en le Dale, Derbyshire.

Alsop en le Dale is a village in Derbyshire, England about 5 miles (8.0 km) north of Ashbourne close to the Staffordshire border, and a mile from Dovedale, a popular tourist location within the Peak District national park. It is within the civil parish of Eaton and Alsop.

The Tissington Trail is a bridleway, footpath and cycleway in Derbyshire, England, along part of the trackbed of the former railway line connecting Ashbourne to Buxton. It takes its name from the village of Tissington, which it skirts. Opened in 1971, and now a part of the National Cycle Network, it stretches for 13 miles (21 km) from Parsley Hay (53.1706°N 1.7828°W / 53.1706; -1.7828 (Tissington Trail (Parsley Hay trailhead))) in the north to Ashbourne (53.0196°N 1.7397°W / 53.0196; -1.7397 (Tissington Trail (Ashbourne trailhead))) in the south.

Eaton and Alsop is a civil parish within the Derbyshire Dales district, in the county of Derbyshire, England. Largely rural, in 2021 Eaton and Alsop had a population of only 80 residents. It is 130 miles (210 km) north west of London, 17 miles (27 km) north west of the county city of Derby, and 6 miles (9.7 km) north of the market town of Ashbourne. Eaton and Alsop is wholly within the Peak District national park, and touches the parishes of Alstonefield, Hartington Nether Quarter, Newton Grange and Parwich. There are five listed buildings in Eaton and Alsop.

Newton Grange is a civil parish in the Derbyshire Dales district of central Derbyshire. For administrative purposes it shares a parish council with the neighbouring parish of Eaton and Alsop. When the parish council was instituted in its present form in 1974, the parish contained eight farms (one of which gives the parish its name) and four dwellings. The western boundary of the parish is the River Dove, including the eastern side of part of Dovedale.The A515 road between Buxton and Ashbourne, and the Tissington Trail, a cycleway and footpath following a former railway between the same two towns, run north–south through the parish. The tree-covered bowl barrow of Moat Low, a scheduled monument, is a prominent hilltop landmark to the west of the main road.

The Ashbourne line was a 33+1⁄2 mi (53.9 km) railway from Buxton via Ashbourne to Uttoxeter. It was built by the London and North Western Railway using a section of the Cromford and High Peak Railway (C&HPR) and it joined the North Staffordshire Railway at Ashbourne, proceeding to Uttoxeter with a junction onto the main line at Rocester.

Dovedale is a valley in the Peak District of England. The land is owned by the National Trust and attracts a million visitors annually. The valley was cut by the River Dove and runs for just over 3 miles (5 km) between Milldale in the north and a wooded ravine, near Thorpe Cloud and Bunster Hill, in the south. In the wooded ravine, a set of stepping stones cross the river and there are two caves known as the Dove Holes. Dovedale's other attractions include rock pillars such as Ilam Rock, Viator's Bridge and the limestone features Lovers' Leap and Reynard's Cave.

The Church of St Peter in Alstonefield, Staffordshire Moorlands, England is a grade I listed Anglican parish church. The oldest parts are 12th century; it has been extended and refurbished in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries and in 1870. Anglo-Saxon crosses found on the site, and the dedication to St Peter, support the belief that there was an earlier Saxon church on the site.In the churchyard is a memorial stone to Ann Green, who died 11 April 1518. This is believed to be the oldest legible gravestone in England. The stone is circular in shape, with wording carved on the edge and on one flat surface.In 2010 lead worth £14,000 was stolen from the church roof. Fund-raising to replace it led to the now annual Leaden Boot Challenge, a 26.2 miles (42.2 km) walk or run to be completed within 12 hours, which now raises funds for other local causes.The church is in the Deanery of Alstonefield and the Diocese of Lichfield.

Thorpe Cloud is an isolated limestone hill (a reef knoll) lying between the villages of Thorpe and Ilam on the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border at the southern end of Dovedale. It is a popular hill amongst the many day-trippers who visit the area, and provides a fine viewpoint north up the dale and south across the Midland plain. Like much of the dale, including Bunster Hill on the opposite bank, it is in the ownership of the National Trust, and is part of their South Peak Estate. These Dovedale properties were acquired by the Trust in 1934. A double sunset can sometimes be seen against Thorpe Cloud from the top of nearby Lin Dale, as captured on film by the photographer Chris Doherty. The occurrence is visible in good weather on and around the summer solstice and perhaps beyond, when the sun sets on the summit of the hill, partially reappears from its steep northern slope and sets for a second and final time shortly afterwards.Thorpe Cloud and Dovedale were used as locations in the 2010 film of Robin Hood, starring Russell Crowe. Thorpe Cloud can be clearly made out in several scenes towards the end of the film. Thorpe Cloud also has a rifle range which local and national shooting clubs use.

Alstonefield (alternative spelling: Alstonfield) is a village and civil parish in the Peak District National Park and the Staffordshire Moorlands district of Staffordshire, England about 7 miles (11 km) north of Ashbourne, 10 miles (16 km) east of Leek and 16 miles (26 km) south of Buxton. The parish had a population of 274 according to the 2001 census, increasing to 304 at the 2011 census.The village has two pubs; The George and The Watts Russell Arms. The civil parish also contains the hamlets of Hopedale, Stanshope and Milldale. In Wilson's 1870–1872 Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales, the spellings Allstonefield and Allstonfield were used.The poet and writer Charles Cotton (28 April 1630 – 16 February 1687), best known for translating the work of Michel de Montaigne from the French, for his contributions to The Compleat Angler and for the influential The Compleat Gamester, was born in the village.

Biggin is a village in the Derbyshire Dales district of Derbyshire, England. It is part of the Hartington Nether Quarter parish, and is in the Peak District National Park. Biggin was once known as Newbiggin, when it had a monastic settlement of the Cistercian order, established by the monks of Garendon Abbey, Leicestershire. The monks established a sheep ranch at Biggin Grange, which still has one ancient outbuilding. Farming is still important to the village, though at one time (18th Century) it was also a centre of lead mining. When the lead started to be worked out, there was a migration of lead miners to Upper Teesdale, and they probably took the name Newbiggin there. Today tourism is an important industry alongside farming.

Wolfscote Hill is a limestone hill near the village of Hartington in the Derbyshire Peak District. The summit is 388 metres (1,273 ft) above sea level.The south side of the hill is access land, in the care of the National Trust. The land is part of the charity's White Peak estate. The 34 acres of land were bequeathed to the National Trust, with common rights, by Lady McDougall in 1939. The hill overlooks the River Dove running through Wolfscote Dale to the west, Biggin Dale to the east and Hartington to the north.The Bronze Age burial mound at the summit is a protected Scheduled Monument. Wolfscote Hill bowl barrow features a cairn over 20 metres (66 ft) wide with a surrounding ditch. It was excavated by Thomas Bateman in 1843 and subsequently by Samuel Carrington in 1851. Their finds included a stone cist containing the skeletons of two children.Wolfscote Hill is one of the 95 Ethels hills of the Peak District, launched by the countryside charity CPRE in 2021.
