Soyland

Ripponden and Barkisland railway station was opened by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway on the Rishworth branch in 1878 as Ripponden. Ripponden is in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, England. Its name was changed to Ripponden and Barkisland on 1 December 1891. The Lancashire and Yorkshire railway was absorbed by the London and North Western Railway on 1 January 1922, which became one of the constituents of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway on grouping in 1923. The latter company closed the station to passengers on 8 July 1929 and British Railways ceased goods traffic in 1958 after which the line was dismantled. The branch connected Sowerby Bridge to the north with the terminus Rishworth to the south.

Its population was 6,412 at the time of the 2001 Census, and 7,421 in 2011.Ripponden is the main settlement in a small group of villages (Barkisland, Ripponden, Rishworth and Soyland) whose citizens are represented on Ripponden Parish Council. The area is a substantial part of the Ryburn Ward, itself part of Calderdale metropolitan borough.Ripponden and its villages were formerly served by the Rishworth branch line from Sowerby Bridge; Ripponden and Barkisland railway station closed to passengers in 1929 and the line was closed completely in 1958.The area is of archaeological note as it is rich in neolithic and Bronze Age remains. At nearby Ringstone Edge can be found a small stone circle. Ripponden is the terminus of the annual Sowerby Bridge Rushbearing Festival.The village is on the route of the Calderdale Way, a 50-mile (80 km) circular walk around the hills and valleys of Calderdale.Ripponden Junior & Infant School has a capacity of 240 children ages 4 - 11. The Old Bridge Inn in the village is the home of an annual pork pie competition. The Old Bridge Inn is a Grade II listed building and is one of the oldest pubs in Yorkshire, its construction is dated to 1307. The Old Bridge, or Waterloo Bridge, near the Inn is on the old packhorse road through the village and is also known as the Packhorse Bridge.On 6 July 2014, Stage 2 of the 2014 Tour de France, from York to Sheffield, passed through the village. On leaving Ripponden at the 112.5 kilometres (69.9 mi) point, riders undertook the third climb of the stage, the Category 3 Côte de Ripponden. It was 1.3 kilometres (0.81 mi) long with an average gradient of 8.6%. The first rider over the top to claim two points in the King of the Mountains competition was Cyril Lemoine of Cofidis. The other point available was claimed by David De La Cruz Melgarejo.

Rishworth railway station was a railway station on the Rishworth branch, built by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway, to serve the village of Rishworth in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, England. It opened in 1881 and closed to passenger services in 1929; goods traffic ceased in 1953.While the station was open, services ran from and to Sowerby Bridge north of Rishworth. A planned extension of the line towards Rochdale was never built.None of the buildings are still standing intact, however, some station remains can be seen on the overgrown site, as well as the platform.

Triangle is a village in the Calderdale borough of West Yorkshire, England. It is located in the valley of the River Ryburn, on the A58 road over the South Pennines, between Sowerby Bridge and Ripponden. Historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it dates mainly from the 19th century period of industrialisation but was here for some time prior. The name of the village derives from the patch of ground formed when the old road parted with the newer (A58) toll road to Rochdale. Previous to this time the village was named Pond.

Triangle railway station was a railway station near Triangle on the Rishworth Branch built by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway. When open, services ran to Sowerby Bridge heading north, and to Rishworth heading south. Only the station house remains.

Barkisland () is a village in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is 1 mile (1.6 km) east of Ripponden, 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Sowerby Bridge and 4 miles (6.4 km) south-west of Halifax town centre. The village is in the Ryburn ward of Calderdale. Barkisland has a school, a church, a post office and a cricket club that plays in the Huddersfield Cricket League. There are two pubs in Barkisland, The Fleece Countryside Inn and The Griffin Inn.

Ryburn Valley High School is a secondary school and sixth form located in the town of Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire, England. Originally built in the 1950s, it moved into a new building in 2005.
