Aschaffenburg

The Natural History Museum of Aschaffenburg (German: Naturwissenschaftliches Museum Aschaffenburg) is a natural history museum located in the historical Schönborner Hof in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, Germany. Since 1970 the museum has been housed in the former city palace of the Counts of Schönborn (built 1681), and currently contains a mineral collection, extensive butterfly collection, taxidermic collection of regional fauna, and herbarium (established 1900).

The Kollegiatsstift St. Peter und Alexander (also Stiftskirche Aschaffenburg or collegiate church Aschaffenburg or Basilica of SS. Peter and Alexander) is a Catholic church located in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, Germany. It is the town's oldest church, established in the 10th century, dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Alexander. The main building was built as a Roman basilica, while other phases were built in the early Gothic style. The current structure is a cruciform basilica, reflecting a variety of styles including a Romanesque nave from the 12th century and a 15th-century tower. The church is also notable for its Renaissance painting Beweinung Christi by Matthias Grünewald and the 10th-century Triumphkreuz. The Stiftskirche is open to the public and serves as a Roman Catholic parish church. A museum in the former chapter house exhibits church treasures and other historical artifacts. The associated collegiate church was classified historical monument of Bavaria. Situated on top of a hill, the church has good views of the city of Aschaffenburg. The architecture of the monastery reflects different periods, from pre-Romanesque to the seventeenth century, although most of the current buildings date back to the 12th and 13th centuries.

The Battle of Aschaffenburg was a 10 day battle fought between the forces of the United States 7th Army and 3rd Army on one side, and Nazi Germany on the other during World War II.

The Staatsgalerie Aschaffenburg ("State Gallery Aschaffenburg") is an art museum in Schloss Johannisburg in Aschaffenburg, Germany. With some 368 paintings, it is the largest of the galleries outside Munich making up the Bavarian State Painting Collections. The origin and main part of the museum is the collection of Friedrich Karl Joseph von Erthal, Elector of Mainz, who lived in Johannisburg from 1792 until his death in 1802. The focus lies on German and Netherlandic paintings, mainly genre paintings.

Schloss Johannisburg is a schloss in the town of Aschaffenburg, in Franconia, in the state of Bavaria, Germany. It was erected between 1605 and 1614 by the architect Georg Ridinger for Johann Schweikhard von Kronberg, Prince Bishop of Mainz. Until 1803, it was the second residence of the Archbishop and Prince Elector of Mainz. It is constructed of red sandstone, the typical building material of the Spessart, the hills near Aschaffenburg.

The Kirchnerhaus, also known as KirchnerHAUS Aschaffenburg eV (English: House Kirchner), is an historical house museum in Aschaffenburg, the birthplace of the German expressionist painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, at Ludwigstraße 19. In 2013, the KirchnerHAUS Aschaffenburg association set up a documentation room in the former apartment of the Kirchner family.

The Battle of Aschaffenburg, sometimes also called The Skirmishes Near Aschaffenburg, was a battle of the Austro-Prussian War on 14 July 1866 between pitting the armies of Prussia on the one hand and parts of the VIII Corps of the German Federal Army on the other side which primarily consisted of soldiers from the Austrian Empire, Hesse-Darmstadt and Hesse-Kassel.
