Maine Township is one of 29 townships in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 135,772 at the 2010 census. The township was founded in 1850. Maine Township is located in Cook County, directly north and east of O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. Maine Township contains portions of the Chicago suburbs of Park Ridge, Morton Grove, Niles, Glenview, Des Plaines and Rosemont. The township also contains unincorporated sections which mostly use a Des Plaines mailing address. Even though they have a Des Plaines (and in some cases a Niles) mailing address, the addresses follow Chicago's numbering system, where the starting points are State and Madison. Interstate 294, also known as the Tri-State Tollway, passes through Maine Township.

WMTH-FM, located in Park Ridge, Illinois, was among the first FM high school radio stations in the United States when it was licensed in 1959. Established by the Student Council at Maine Township High School, now Maine East High School, the station went on the air during December 1959. The station became known as "The Voice of Maine Township". The radio station was built by electronics teacher, Theron Whitfield, and electronics students in the school. WMTH-FM has studios at all three existing Maine Township High Schools; Maine West High School in Des Plaines and Maine East High School and Maine South High School in Park Ridge. There was also a studio at the former Maine North High School in Des Plaines. The call letters were chosen "MTH" as in Maine Township High (school). The WMTH-FM antenna is located on the highest point of the school building at Dempster and Potter Roads in Park Ridge. The studio from 1959 through 1970 was located in room 147B, across the hall from the auditorium. When the center courtyard building opened in the fall of 1970, the radio station relocated and the first WMTH-TV television studio was built. The original power of the station was 16 watts effective radiated power at a frequency of 88.5 MHz. This continued from 1960 until 1983 when the frequency was changed to 90.5 MHz and the power reduced to 10 watts. This leaves it as one of the lowest powered FM stations in the United States, and one of few remaining under the now-discontinued Class D license. WMTH-TV is another section of WMTH, they broadcast a mixture of music, school sports events, and other programs of local interest. All of the broadcast events are streamed on their respective youtube channels. In addition, all events broadcast are staffed by WMTH Club Members and the broadcasts are in care of their respective instructors.

Maine East High School, or Maine East, and officially Maine Township High School East, is a public four-year high school located at the corner of Dempster Street and Potter Road in Park Ridge, Illinois, a northwest suburb of Chicago, in the United States. It is part of Maine Township High School District 207, which also includes Maine South High School and Maine West High School. The building itself, constructed in the 1920s, is noted for its distinct Art Deco style.

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital (ALGH) is a 645-bed non-profit teaching hospital located in the Chicago suburb of Park Ridge, Illinois. Founded in 1897, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital is the sixth largest hospital in the Chicago area, and it operates a Level I trauma center. It also is home to Advocate Children's Hospital – Park Ridge, the only children's hospital in the greater north and northwest suburban region of Chicago. The hospital is a part of Advocate Aurora Health. In the last year with available data, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital had 29,025 admissions, 62,544 emergency department visits, and its surgeons performed 6,728 inpatient and 12,431 outpatient surgeries. The hospital is gold certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). The inpatient rehabilitation program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The echocardiogram lab is accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission.ALGH operates a number of residency programs, which train newly graduated physicians in various specialties and sub-specialties. The hospital is associated with the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University.

Park Ridge is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States, and a Chicago suburb. Per the 2020 census, the population was 39,656. It is located 15 miles (24 km) northwest of downtown Chicago. It is close to O'Hare International Airport, major expressways, and rail transportation. The Des Plaines River Trail is a recreational multiuse trail that follows the course of the Des Plaines River through most of Lake and part of Cook County in northeast Illinois in the United States. Trail uses include hiking/walking, bicycling, equestrian, and even winter cross country skiing and snowmobiling (conditions permitting). Since much of the trail lies in the flood plain along the Des Plaines River, sections of the trail are occasionally closed due to flooding during periods of heavy rain. Though not all sections of the trail connect directly, there is a section more than 31 miles (50km) long running through Lake County starting at Russell Road along the Wisconsin/Illinois state line and running south into Cook County. There are additional disconnected sections south of the town of Des Plaines.Much of the Des Plaines River Trail runs through a protected corridor made up of a series of public lands that are part of the Lake County Forest Preserve District and the Cook County Forest Preserve District]. The numerous forest preserves provide additional recreational opportunities along the trail. Underpasses and bridges are used to facilitate many (not all) of the major road crossings (The underpasses are highly prone to flooding during the spring). Cook County Forest Preserve rangers give lectures at various time during the year. There is a nature house where forest animals reside for the public to view. The trails are very calm and beautiful and especially in the fall when the leaves change colors. A peak time to walk the trails is the second or third week in October. You can picnic right next to the Des Plaines River.

Maine South High School (officially known as Maine Township High School South) is a public four-year high school located in Park Ridge, Illinois, a northwest suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of Maine Township High School District 207, which also includes Maine East High School and Maine West High School. Maine South is well known for its academic, athletic, and fine arts success. Since at least 1992 it has also received mention in national media as the alma mater of Hillary Clinton, a member of the school's first graduating class.

Maine Township High School District 207 is a school district based in Illinois. Composed of all of Park Ridge and most of Des Plaines, as well as portions of Glenview, Harwood Heights, Morton Grove, Niles, Norridge, Chicago, and Norwood Park Township, the 36-square-mile (93 km2) district lies approximately 14 miles Northwest of downtown Chicago. Primarily residential with some light industry, office developments and shopping centers, the district is adjacent to O'Hare International Airport and lies at the hub of rail and highway transportation (sections of I-90, I-190, and I-294 lie within the district boundaries). The district has earned many national awards including being named as one of “Most Innovative School Districts” for its unique approaches to expand and support teacher learning and student success both during and after high school by AASA. In 2007, District 207 became Google’s first elementary and secondary school district Google Apps for Education partner.

The Des Plaines crater or Des Plaines disturbance is recognized as an impact crater in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is located beneath the eastern part of the city of Des Plaines, which is a suburb of Chicago.The Des Plaines crater is 5.5 miles (8.9 km) in diameter and covers an area of approximately 25 square miles (65 km2). The age of the crater is unknown but is thought to be between 280 million years and 2 million years (Permian or younger). The crater is buried beneath 75 to 200 feet (23–60 m) of glacial till and can only be seen as a series of faults and deformations in well logs and seismic surveys. Faulting in the structure has produced as much as 600 feet (180 m) of vertical displacement. Subsurface strata of Cambrian through Pennsylvanian age has been faulted and tilted by the event. The anomalous area was first noted by water well drillers in 1893, who noted an absence of water in a 1,600-foot (490 m) deep well. Prior to being recognized as an impact structure, the feature was referred to as a cryptoexplosion structure or cryptovolcanic structure, as were several others in the Midwestern United States. The upfaulted central portion and the presence of shatter cone structures support the impact origin.

Park Ridge is one of two commuter railroad stations on Metra's Union Pacific Northwest Line in the city of Park Ridge, Illinois. It is officially located at 100 South Summit Avenue, and lies 13.1 miles (21.1 km) from the Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Park Ridge is in zone C. As of 2018, Park Ridge is the 33rd busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 1,168 weekday boardings.As of April 25, 2022, Park Ridge is served by 22 trains in each direction on weekdays, by 16 inbound trains and 15 outbound trains on Saturdays, and by nine inbound trains and 10 outbound trains on Sundays. Parking is available on both sides of the tracks. On the north side, on-street parking can be found along Summit Avenue and Busse Highway, and a parking lot can be found on the southwest corner of Summit and Touhy Avenues. On the south side of the tracks, the parking areas are much further away from the station south of Main Street. Among these are street-side parking along Garden Avenue beginning halfway between Prospect and Fairview Avenues and halfway between Prairie Avenue and Third Street, one parking lot on the south side of Garden Avenue between Fairview and Prospect Avenues, street-side parking along Prairie Avenue north of Garden Street, which end at parking lots on both sides of Prairie Avenue, and another parking lot next to the one on the east side of Prairie along Fairview Avenue. Unlike nearby Dee Road, Park Ridge's main station provides bus connections for both Pace and CTA buses. Park Ridge serves as the northern terminus of CTA's Route 68 Northwest Highway.
