Gerkesklooster

Stroobos (West Frisian: Strobos) is a village in Achtkarspelen in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. The settlement of Stroobos used to be divided between Friesland and Groningen. In 1993, the entire village was transferred to Friesland.It forms, together with Gerkesklooster, the double village Gerkesklooster-Stroobos. The double village had a population of around 1144 in 2017, with 812 in Gerkesklooster and 332 in Stroobos.

The Lauwers (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈlʌu.ərs]) is a river in the Netherlands. It forms part of the border between the provinces of Friesland and Groningen. From the 730s to Widukind's defeat in 785, it was part of the border of the Frankish Empire.The former Lauwerszee and the present-day Lauwersmeer are both named after the river, which as a small stream has its source southeast of the village of Surhuisterveen. Near Gerkesklooster/Stroobos, it crosses the Prinsesmargrietkanaal/van Starkenborghkanaal. The Lauwers achieves the width of a true river at the place that it gains its tributary, the Oude Vaart, near the Schalkendam. Further along its course, the Lauwers splits into two branches, the Frisian Oude Lauwers and the Zijldiep, in Groningen province. The Lauwers meets the sea at the Wadden Sea, emptying into a channel between the islands of Schiermonnikoog and Rottumerplaat/Rottumeroog, which can be viewed as the continuation of the river.

Burum (West Frisian language: Boerum) is a village in Noardeast-Fryslân municipality, Friesland in the Netherlands. It is the site of a ground station of the Dutch Nationale SIGINT Organisatie (national signals intelligence service), which intercepts satellite communications. Burum also provides reference signals for Enhanced Automatic Frequency Correction, which help calibrates satellite communications.It had a population of 606 in January 2017.

Augsbuert-Lytsewâld is a small village in the Dutch province of Friesland. It is in the municipality Noardeast-Fryslân, about 1 km southeast of the town of Kollum. Augsbuurt had about 70 inhabitants in January 2017.

The Nationale SIGINT Organisatie (NSO) was the Dutch signals intelligence (SIGINT) organisation, which was part of the Ministry of Defence, but worked for both the military intelligence and security agency MIVD as for its civilian counterpart AIVD. The NSO was established in 2003, in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks and became fully operational in 2007. Early 2014, the NSO merged into the newly created Joint Sigint Cyber Unit (JSCU).The facilities of the NSO were a high frequency radio interception station in Eibergen in the Berkelland municipality, and a satellite ground station in Burum in the Kollumerland c.a. municipality. There are also some mobile SIGINT units which can be deployed at military operations abroad. The operation of both listening stations and the mobile units has been taken over by the JSCU.

De Westermolen is a smock mill in Kollumerpomp, Friesland, Netherlands which was built in 1845. The mill has been restored to working order. It is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 23746.
