It is located in the Rhône and Ain departments, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, eastern France. Created in 2014, its seat is in Villefranche-sur-Saône. Its area is 167.7 km2. Its population was 72,815 in 2019, of which 36,291 in Villefranche-sur-Saône proper.

Liergues (French pronunciation: [ljɛʁɡ]) is a former commune in the Rhône department in eastern France. On 1 January 2017, it was merged into the new commune Porte des Pierres Dorées. Its population was 2,185 in 2019.
