Birchwood is a town and civil parish in the Borough of Warrington, Cheshire, England. The parish had a population of 10,614 at the 2021 census. Located originally in Lancashire, it was built as a new town in the 1970s. Birchwood is made up of three districts: Gorse Covert, Locking Stumps and Oakwood.

Risley is a district in the northeast corner of Warrington, in the Warrington district, in the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. Within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire, it lies south of Culcheth and is historically part of the parish of Croft. During the Second World War it was the location of a Royal Ordnance Factory, ROF Risley. After the war it became the site of the design offices and laboratories for the United Kingdom's nuclear weapons and nuclear power programmes. Universities Research Reactor was operational in Risley until 1991. Today the bulk of the area forms the new town of Birchwood. HMP Risley is located in the area. The institution opened as a Remand Centre in 1964, but is now a Category C prison for adult males.

Birchwood Community High School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in the Birchwood area of Warrington in the English county of Cheshire.Previously a community school administered by Warrington Borough Council, Birchwood Community High School converted to academy status on 1 July 2013. However, the school continues to coordinate with Warrington Borough Council regarding its admissions. Birchwood Community High School offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils, while students in the sixth form (named Birchwood College) have the option to study from a range of A-levels and further BTECs.The school has four houses: Fides, Libertas, Veneratio and Dedicatio – the Latin names of the school's values of belief, independence, respect and commitment.

Birchwood Forest Park covers the area formerly occupied by the Royal Ordnance Factory, ROF Risley, in Birchwood, Warrington, in north-west England. The park covers an area of 500 acres (2.0 km2) and stretches from the M6 in the west to the M62, junction 11, in the east [1]. The park's history is tied directly to that of the district which it serves, Birchwood. In the northern part of the park there is a ranger's cabin and various skateboarding and children's leisure facilities. The vast majority of the park's area is covered by large open spaces of grassland, commonly used for football and other outdoor sports. The park is mainly surrounded by some inclines (the entrances to the Royal Ordnance Factory), and there is a lot of foliage. It is also a key area for outdoor events in Birchwood, with key events including the Birchwood Fireworks Display, the Birchwood Carnival, several Sunday-league football tournaments, and other sporting events. In 1985, a sculpture entitled Bo Peep and Her Sheep, sculpted by Diane Gorvin was introduced to the park.

Homes England is the non-departmental public body that funds new affordable housing in England. It was founded on 1 January 2018 to replace the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). HCA in turn was established by the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008 as one of the successor bodies to the Housing Corporation, and became operational on 1 December 2008.

HM Prison Risley known as "Grisly Risley" is a Category C men's prison, located in the Risley area of Warrington, Cheshire, England. The prison is operated by Her Majesty's Prison Service.

Christ Church is in Lady Lane, Croft, Cheshire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Winwick, the archdeaconry of Warrington, and the diocese of Liverpool. Its benefice is united with that of Newchurch. The church is designated by English Heritage as a Grade II listed building. It was a Commissioners' church, having received a grant towards its construction from the Church Building Commission.

Birchwood railway station is a railway station serving the town of Birchwood, Cheshire, England. The station is 24+1⁄4 miles (39.0 km) east of Liverpool Lime Street and 13+1⁄4 miles (21.3 km) west of Manchester Piccadilly on the Liverpool-Manchester line. The station is operated by Northern Trains and is on the southern route of the Liverpool–Manchester Line. It is staffed full-time (between 06:10 and 23:45 Mondays–Saturdays and 08:25 and 23:20 on Sundays).

The A574 is a road in England, running through the borough of Warrington before terminating at the end of Butts Bridge in Leigh. The route covers a distance of approximately 13 miles (21 km) and links Warrington town centre with the outer suburbs of Birchwood and Sankey. The road passes through the following districts of Warrington and Leigh (in route order): Sankey Bridges (Start of route) Old Hall Westbrook Callands Longford Orford Padgate Longbarn Birchwood Locking Stumps Risley Culcheth Glazebury Hope Carr (End of route)Being in the new part of Warrington, the road is renowned for its numerous roundabouts—26 in all, the first one less than 1⁄2 mile (0.80 km) from the start and the last about 1 mile (1.6 km) from the terminus.

Culcheth railway station served the village of Culcheth, Warrington, then in Lancashire, later in Cheshire, England. It was situated immediately west of the bridge whereby Wigshaw Lane crossed the railway.

Croft is a village and civil parish in Warrington, England, about four miles north of Warrington town centre. At the 2001 census it had a population of 2,920. It is a semi-rural, residential district.

Culcheth Linear Park is a park in the district of Culcheth, Warrington, England. Like the Black Bear Park and sections of the Trans Pennine Trail, Culcheth Linear Park is built on former railway line (train) tracks. This park lies on a section of the former Wigan Junction Railways. The line was first opened to goods in 1878 and was later connected to Wigan Central, Glazebrook, Lowton St Mary's, and Culcheth. At the outbreak of World War II lines were connected to the Royal Naval Aircraft Training Establishment at Culcheth (HMS Ariel) and the Royal Ordnance Factory at Risley. Following the Beeching Report of 1964 the line was closed. On 21 December 1970, part of the former rail route was conveyed to Golborne Urban District Council (Golborne UDC). In 1974, Golborne UDC was split between two newly-created local authorities: the Borough of Warrington and the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan. The portion of the rail route that was acquired by Warrington was converted into a new park.Today it is home to many local community projects and a variety of wildlife. There are also some limited facilities for sport. In February 2023, the park became the focus of national news coverage, when it was the location of the murder of transgender teenager Brianna Ghey.
