The Cathedral of Cartagena de Indias in Colombia, officially the Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of Saint Catherine of Alexandria (Spanish: Catedral Basílica Metropolitana de Santa Catalina de Alejandría), is located in the historic centre of Cartagena. It is the episcopal see of the Archbishop of Cartagena de Indias, one of the oldest episcopal sees in the Americas. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The Cartagena de Indias Cathedral was built between 1577 and 1612, replacing a modest church made of wood and reeds. The original structure of the cathedral has been preserved today almost unchanged. The cathedral was designed by master builder Simón González, modelled after basilicas in Andalusia and the Canary Islands. Later, in 1908, the tower and dome of the cathedral were refurbished by French architect Gaston Lelarge. However, the balconies, the main portal and cornices are original from the colonial era. In 1586, while the church was still under construction, it was attacked by the English privateer Francis Drake, which caused severe damage and delayed its completion. Both the Carrara marble pulpit, the valuable procedural custody, the marble pavement of the cathedral and the elegant arcades sustaining the central nave, are due to the prelate Fray José Díaz de Lamadrid, who governed the Cartagena see from 1778 to 1792.

The Palace of the Inquisition, also known as the Inquisition Palace, (Spanish: Palacio de la Inquisición, Spanish pronunciation: [paˈlasjo ðe lajŋkisiˈsjon]) is an eighteenth-century the seat of the Holy Office of the Inquisition in Cartagena, now in modern Colombia. Completed in 1770, it currently serves as a museum showcasing historical artifacts. Among the many historical artifacts, the museum displays torture equipment used on victims during the inquisition. These items were removed from display in 2015 prior to visits to Colombia by Pope Francis. They have since partially returned and are again on display. The museum has been described as "one of the finer buildings" in Cartagena. Cited as one of Cartagena's "best examples of late colonial, civil architecture", it faces the Parque de Bolívar.

The Bartolomé Calvo Library (Spanish: Biblioteca Bartolomé Calvo) is a Colombian library located in the Santo Domingo Square, Cartagena. The library was named after President Bartolomé Calvo. It is one of the most popular libraries in the country.

The Church of Saint Dominic (Spanish Iglesia de Santo Domingo) is a Catholic church located in the Spanish city of Cartagena (Region of Murcia) built between the 17th to 19th centuries. It has the Chapel of the Marrajos.

The Iglesia de San Pedro Claver is a church located in Cartagena de Indias, in Colombia. This church and its convent are located in the Plaza de San Pedro Claver. The church is part of a set of religious buildings that is complemented by the Cloister of San Pedro Claver and the archaeological museum. It was built between 1580 and 1654, in Spanish Colonial style. Originally known as the church of San Juan de Dios, it has been called the church of San Ignacio de Loyola since 1622 and is now known as San Pedro Claver.The church is colonial, except for the dome, in 1921 the colonial dome was eliminated and the present dome was erected, the work of French Gaston Lelarge.At its altar lie the remains of Saint Peter Claver, who died in 1654 in Cartagena, after devoting practically all his life to evangelizing and redeeming the black slaves of New Granada. On May 7, 2022 the Church formally dedicated a new mausoleum. The structure is 2 stories and uses existing space that dwells behind the resting place of the Saint. The mausoleum construction was donated by philanthropists Dr. Jaime Rodriguez Torres and Miami Investor Burt Connelly.

The University of Cartagena (Spanish: Universidad de Cartagena), also called UniCartagena, is a departmental public coeducational research university based primarily in the city of Cartagena, Bolívar, Colombia. The university offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, which includes two doctorates. The university is member of the Association of Colombian Universities, the Iberoamerican Association of Postgraduate Universities, and the State University System (Spanish: Sistema Universitario Estatal). On March 26, 2014, the University of Cartagena received from the Ministry of Education Institutional Accreditation of High Quality, becoming the first and only public university in the Caribbean region with this type of accreditation.

The Iglesia de Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo is a Catholic church located in the historic center of Cartagena de Indias, in Bolívar Department, Colombia, specifically in the northwestern corner of Plaza Fernández de Madrid, at the intersection of Calle Curato and Calle del Sargento Mayor, in Barrio San Diego. Its construction began in 1666, becoming the last church in the city to be built during the colonial period, and suspended at the stage of foundation construction, it was restarted in 1730 and completed in 1732. Due to its historical value, it was declared a national monument in 1995 along with other buildings in the city.Among its relics, the main altarpiece is still preserved. Under the choir, the temple has a Mudéjar ceiling of indisputable Córdoban influence, as also happens with the alfarje (carved wood ceiling) and with the harneruelo (flat and central part of the coffered ceilings) of the main altar. Carpentry from Cartagena is beautifully represented in the two access doors to the sacristy, also the colonial font of Carrara marble in the sacristy is a masterpiece. In this also stand out the two artistic holy water fonts and the sink, pieces of alabaster elaborately carved, in the Sevillian Renaissance style. Inside you can also see some mural paintings, which survived the lime cover; and the Baroque-style main altar, restored at the end of the 19th century and regilded in 1953 by master Emiliano Luque García. Its advocation was Saint Turibius of Mogrovejo.

The Castillo San Felipe de Barajas (San Felipe de Barajas Castle) is a fortress in the city of Cartagena, Colombia. The castle was built in 1536 and is located on the Hill of San Lázaro in a strategic location, dominating approaches to the city by land or sea. It was originally known as the Castillo de San Lázaro. It was built by African slave labor under Spanish supervision during the colonial era. The fortress was involved in several battles between the late 17th to early 19th centuries between European powers.

The Battle of Cartagena de Indias (1586) or the Capture of Cartagena de Indias was a military and naval action fought on 9–11 February 1586, of the recently declared Anglo-Spanish War that resulted in the assault and capture by English soldiers and sailors of the Spanish colony city of Cartagena de Indias (now part of Colombia) governed by Pedro de Bustos on the Spanish Main. The English were led by Francis Drake. The raid was part of his Great Expedition to the Spanish New World. The English soldiers then occupied the city for over two months and captured much booty along with a ransom before departing on 12 April.

The Fort San Sebastián del Pastelillo (Spanish: Fuerte de San Sebastián del Pastelillo) is a military fortress built in colonial times in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

Plaza Bocagrande also known as Hyatt Regency Cartagena is a mixed-use skyscraper in the Bocagrande district of Cartagena, Colombia. Built between 2014 and 2017, the tower stands at 190 m (620 ft) tall with 44 floors and is the current 6th tallest building in Colombia and the 2nd tallest in Cartagena.

Old Boots (Spanish: Las Botas Viejas), also known as the Old Shoes Monument (Spanish: Monumento Los Zapatos Viejos) is a sculpture located in Cartagena, Colombia. The statue was created in honor of Colombian poet Luis Carlos López, who, in his poem A mi Ciudad Nativa, compared the city of Cartagena to a pair of old boots.
