It is sited 224 miles 74 chains (362.0 kilometres) from Carlisle via Perth, on the Dundee to Aberdeen line, and is situated between Laurencekirk and Portlethen. There is a crossover at the southern end of the station, which can be used to facilitate trains turning back if the line towards Aberdeen is blocked.

The Kirktown of Fetteresso is a well-preserved village near Stonehaven, Scotland. In the planning area of Kincardine and Mearns, Aberdeenshire, this village contains many very old stone residential structures as well as the Church of St. Ciarans and its associated graveyard. The Carron Water winds through the Kirktown of Fetteresso, and Fetteresso Castle, a listed building, lies at the northwestern verge. Some of the earliest area prehistory has been found nearby on the Fetteresso Estate grounds, where there have been archaeological finds from the Bronze Age. Fetteresso was the birthplace of Alexander Wood, who emigrated to Toronto in 1793 and became a noted businessman and magistrate. It is also home to Kirktown Garden Centre, a garden centre and restaurant. Today, the Dundee–Aberdeen line passes the village. The Stonehaven bypass, now part of the A90, passes between the village and Stonehaven.

Glenury distillery (also known as Glenury Royal) was a Highland single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Stonehaven, Scotland Glenury operated under a number of different owners between 1825 and 1985, when it closed for the final time.

Stonehaven ( stohn-HAY-vən) is a town on the northeast coast of Scotland, 15 miles (24 km) south of Aberdeen. It had a population of 11,602 at the 2011 Census. Stonehaven was formerly the county town of Kincardineshire, succeeding the now abandoned town of Kincardine. It is currently administered as part of Aberdeenshire. The town is known in the local Doric dialect as Steenhive ( ).

The White Bridge is a footbridge in Stonehaven, Scotland. It was constructed in 1879. It was built with a wooden floor which was replaced with concrete in 1892. The bridge is Category C listed. The bridge crosses the Carron Water and links Arbuthnott Street and Cameron Street. In April 2019, the bridge was removed and placed into storage as part of flood prevention works in Stonehaven. The bridge was subsequently refurbished with its paint removed and replaced. It is expected to reopen in 2023.
