Bird Island is an island west of Moturoa / Rabbit Island in the Tasman District of New Zealand.

Bronte, a locality in the Tasman District of New Zealand, lies between Richmond and Māpua. Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), the eponym of the Nelson Region, became Duke of Bronte (in Sicily) in 1799. (The Bronte area in New Zealand formed part of the former Nelson Province from 1853 to 1876, and subsequently part of the Nelson Provincial District prior to the formation of the Tasman District in 1992.)

Ruby Bay is a settlement in the Tasman District of New Zealand's upper South Island. It is located between Māpua and Tasman on Te Mamaku / Ruby Bay. Ruby Bay was named after small 'rubies' (red chert) found within the moutere gravel.

Mahana is a settlement in the Tasman District of New Zealand's upper South Island. It is a small rural community in the Upper Moutere District, of mainly lifestyle block properties. equidistant from the two nearest townships of Richmond and Motueka, it has local shops, bars and restaurants in the village of Mapua 5min's away, and beach / boat access via the Mapua inlet, and Tramping, biking and fishing etc to the west in the stunning Arthur and Pikikiruna ranges. Since 2015, its population has been expanding with new developments as it is seen as a great environment for lifestyle living. Increasingly being picked as, 'The location', for high end executive, remote working, at the top of the South island. Its popularity is due to its quick access to SH60, providing fast access to Motueka and Golden Bay to the West, and rapid links, via Richmond, to SH6 West, to Nelson and on to Blenheim and the East coast, or due South, to the Nelson Lakes region, including the popular Rainbow Ski field, and on down, via the West Coast, eventually to Otago. Dominated commercially by the Gravity Winery and vineyards, a small number of local businesses include Camper van hire / sales, roof guttering and some small scale farming. A growing community, centered on the fantastic Local Primary school, is at the Hub of this quiet and tranquil location.

Stafford Place at 61 Redwood Road, Appleby, New Zealand (near Richmond), is registered with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust as a Category I structure. Stafford Place was built in 1866 for Henry Redwood and his wife Mary. Through his sister Martha (1820–1893), Redwood was brother in law with Joseph Ward.The house is in Carpenter Gothic style. The adjacent brick stables were significantly damaged in the 1929 Murchison earthquake. During the 2000s, the stables were rebuilt in accordance with the original design.

Moturoa / Rabbit Island is a small island that lies across the southernmost part of Tasman Bay / Te Tai-o-Aorere, on the northern coast of New Zealand's South Island. The long narrow island runs east–west for 8 kilometres (5 mi), and covers 15 km2 (5.8 sq mi). It lies opposite the mouth of the Waimea River, 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) to the west of Richmond. It was formed about 7000 years ago as several barrier islands accumulated near the mouth of the Waimea River. There is evidence of Maori occupation for over 800 years. The original vegetation comprised tussock, manuka scrub and totara forest further inland. The Rabbit Island Recreation Reserve contains three islands, Rabbit Island, Rough Island and Bird Island, and became a public reserve in 1908. Rabbit Island, with its long, safe swimming beach, is a popular beach resort to the residents of Motueka, Wakefield, Brightwater, Richmond, Māpua, Stoke and Nelson. A medium-sized causeway spans a tidal area and joins the mainland to Rabbit Island. There is a large grassed area after this bridge and a Fire Hazard sign ("Keep it Green"). Large areas of the relatively flat islands are covered in pine plantation forest. The beach proper contains vast and mountainous sand dunes topped with masses of cone-bearing pines, with exposed roots, extending for long distances along the island. The Tasman's Great Taste Trail, a cycleway running from Richmond to Motueka, runs through Rabbit Island. There is also a newly established equestrian area. The reserve area is closed to the public from dusk to 5 am. In August 2014, the name of the island was officially altered to Moturoa / Rabbit Island.

Best Island, previously Bests Island, is an island in the Waimea Inlet, an arm in the southernmost part of Tasman Bay / Te Tai-o-Aorere, on the northern coast of New Zealand's South Island. The island runs northwest to southeast for 3.7 kilometres (2.3 mi). It is connected to the South Island on the southwest and to Bell Island to the northeast by causeways. It is in the Richmond Ward of Tasman District. The northeastern half of the island contains the Greenacres Golf Club. The middle of the island contains farms. The population is concentrated at the southwestern end. Legal access to properties is only from the sea, although private roads have been used for decades to give property-owners access. A plan for the district council to buy land for public road access failed in 2016.The island was originally called Bests (or Best's) Island after a local family.

Appleby is a locality in the Tasman district in the South Island of New Zealand. It is located around the Waimea River near the Tasman Bay / Te Tai-o-Aorere. It was first settled in the early 1840s. State Highway 60 passes through the settlement. There are three buildings in Appleby registered with Heritage New Zealand: Springfield, a house on the corner of State Highway 60 and Cotterill Road, is registered as Category II with registration number 1646. St Alban's Church on State Highway 60 is registered as Category II with registration number 1654. Stafford Place at 61 Redwood Road is registered as Category I with registration number 1678.In addition, the Redwood Racing Stables, which belonged to Stafford Place, were located on State Highway 60, and were relocated to Richmond, are registered as Category I with registration number 246.

Tasman is a settlement in the Tasman District of New Zealand's upper South Island. It is located between Māpua and Motueka, 45 kilometres (28 mi) from Abel Tasman National Park and 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Nelson.The Tasman area covers a small peninsula on the southern and eastern side of the Moutere Inlet. It includes Kina Beach, a Tasman Bay / Te Tai-o-Aorere beach with rock pools which is only fully accessible during low tide.The population of Tasman Village and Kina Beach is approximately 400. There is a general store, a medieval cafe, a vineyard, and a nine-hole golf course with views of Mt Arthur and Abel Tasman National Park. The area also has a cycling track, and is also a base from kayaking, fishing and hiking.The Aporo Sculpture, a 9 metres (30 ft) high stainless steel sculpture, sits at the Tasman Village turnoff from State Highway 60. It was unveiled in October 2015, cost $60,000, and took local artists, community groups, Tasman District Council staff and volunteers six years to complete.Country singer-songwriter Aly Cook and four-time adventure racing world champion Nathan Fa'avae were both raised in Tasman. A Harley Davidson motorbike group, Sons of Tasman, also originates from Tasman.At the annual Muddy Buddy event, attendees in fancy dress get caked in mud from the inlet and are then cleaned off with fire hoses.

The Waimea River is located in the north of the South Island of New Zealand. It is formed from the confluence of the Wairoa River and the Wai-iti River, which meet near Brightwater. The combined waters flow into Tasman Bay / Te Tai-o-Aorere near Appleby, opposite Rabbit Island.

St Michael's Church is an heritage listed Anglican church, located in Brightwater in the Tasman District of New Zealand. St Michael's was the first church in the wider Nelson Region. The building was listed by Heritage New Zealand as a Category I heritage building on 5 April 1984.

Bell Island, or Bell's Island (unofficial) is an island in New Zealand. It functions as a wastewater treatment plant for the nearby city of Nelson and town of Richmond.Bell Island is a low-lying triangular island, being formed from a raised sandbank in the delta of the Waimea River. It lies to the west of the city of Nelson in the Waimea Inlet, an arm of Tasman Bay / Te Tai-o-Aorere, at the northern end of the South Island. It lies immediately south of the larger Rabbit Island and northeast of Best Island. The island is dominated by the treatment ponds of the sewage plant, which cover much of the east of the island. At the western end, a long narrow spit extends into the mouth of the Waimea River. A smaller, unnamed island and wide sandbank protrude into the inlet at the eastern end of the island. Bell Island is not to be confused with Pakatoa Island, which previously was known as Bell's Island, nor with Waiheke Island, which was also known as Bell's Island.
