Northbrook station

The Ed Rudolph Velodrome is a velodrome in Northbrook, Illinois used to host track cycling events and soccer games. It was the more centrally located of two Chicago metropolitan area velodromes (the other residing in Kenosha, Wisconsin), until the Chicago Velo Campus was constructed in 2011. It is owned by the Northbrook Park District.The 382 m (1,253 ft) velodrome was constructed in 1960 with a perimeter for track cycling and a grassy infield for soccer games. Every winter, the velodrome was flooded to create a speed skating rink. Over the years, the track served as a practice rink for members of multiple U.S. Winter Olympics teams. In the 1990s, the District ceased the annual conversion of the velodrome into an ice rink due to the facility's inability to retain water, which seeped through the soccer field. Ed Harvey, the District director, attributed this to a lowering of the water table caused by construction in the late 1980s.The track's asphalt was completely resurfaced in 1989, and again in 2004.

Techny is a neighborhood of Northbrook, Illinois, United States. Once a separate community, it was annexed by Northbrook in 1989. The North American headquarters of the Divine Word Missionaries has been located in Techny since 1896. The area's name derived from St. Joseph's Technical School, which the religious congregation established in 1901 and operated for twelve years. St. Mary's Mission Seminary, the first of its kind which prepared priests and Brothers for foreign missions, was opened by the Divine Word Missionaries in 1909. Techny has its own post office with ZIP code 60082.

Per the 2020 census, the population was 35,222.When incorporated in 1901, the village was known as Shermerville in honor of Frederick Schermer, who donated the land for its first train station. The village changed its name to Northbrook in 1923 as an effort to improve its public image. The name was chosen because the West Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River runs through the village.Glenbrook North High School, founded in 1952 as Glenbrook High School, is located in Northbrook. The village is also home to the Northbrook Park District, the Northbrook Court shopping mall, the Ed Rudolph Velodrome, the Chicago Curling Club, and the Northbrook Public Library.

It was established in 1953 and is part of the Northfield Township High School District 225. In 2022, it was ranked the 48th-best public high school in the United States by Niche. Feeder schools that attend GBN are Wood Oaks, Northbrook Junior High, Field (Northbrook portions), and Maple (Northbrook portions). GBN Serves Most of Northbrook, some unincorporated portions of Cook County, and a small section of Glenview.

Northfield Township is one of 29 townships in Cook County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2010 census, its population was 85,102. The township office is located at 2550 Waukegan Road (just south of Willow Road) in Glenview. The township was established on April 2, 1850.

Deerbrook Mall is a shopping mall in Deerfield, Illinois. Located on 47.45 acres, its anchor stores are Marshalls, The Dump Furniture Outlet, Office Depot, Hobby Lobby, and Jewel Osco. Former anchors include Best Buy, Bally Total Fitness, Old Country Buffet, Blockbuster Video, GameStop, OfficeMax, Sports Authority, TJ Maxx, Venture, Wonder, The Great Indoors, Art Van Furniture, and Bed Bath & Beyond. The mall is located on Waukegan Road, north of the Edens Spur and south of Lake Cook Road. The mall is a low priority for its developer, as its website has not been updated since 2018, as seen in the website's property map.

Northbrook Court is a shopping mall in Northbrook, Illinois with a collection of stores serving the North Shore suburbs of Chicago. Located on 130 acres (0.53 km2) of land, the mall currently features the traditional retailer Neiman Marcus as well as a number of prominent specialty retailers such as Apple, Lululemon, Louis Vuitton, and Tiffany & Co. The mall is in the midst of a perpetually postponed $750 million update and enhanced development which was unveiled in April 2023. In June 2023, the mall was declared blighted and a new 1% sales tax was introduced to pay for improvements.This mall also features a 14-screen Dine-In AMC Theatres on the south side of the mall. It is managed and co-owned by Brookfield Properties.

Lake Cook Road (also known as Lake Cook) is a Metra station along the Milwaukee District North Line, situated on the border between Northbrook and Deerfield, Illinois. It is located at 601 Lake Cook Road, is 23.4 miles (37.7 km) away from Chicago Union Station, the southern terminus of the line, and serves commuters between Union Station and Fox Lake, Illinois. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Lake Cook Road is in zone E. As of 2018, Lake Cook Road is the 43rd busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 1,086 weekday boardings. The station exists along a railroad line that originally served the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. It is the last stop outbound on the line inside Cook County. The station opened in January 1996 as an infill station.As of December 12, 2022, Lake Cook Road is served by 45 trains (20 inbound, all 25 outbound) on weekdays, by all 20 trains (10 in each direction) on Saturdays, and by all 18 trains (nine in each direction) on Sundays and holidays. Unlike the historic Deerfield station, Lake Cook Road is somewhat more modern-looking. Despite classic features, it contains far more contemporary paint trim and a "Metra" sign over the front doorway, rather than anything from the old Milwaukee Road. Parking is available along the west side of the tracks through a frontage road along Lake Cook Road leading to the intersection of Deerlake Road. This is due to the railroad bridge over Lake Cook Road. The parking lot also contains a section strictly for Pace buses. The station is across the tracks from some shopping centers at the corner of Lake Cook Road and Waukegan Road and is in close proximity to Interstate 94 west of the IL 43 partial interchange.

Gaylord Container Corporation (AMEX: GCR) was an American integrated manufacturer of packaging materials, primarily corrugated containers. Operating from 1986 until 2002, most of the company's facilities were originally part of Crown Zellerbach's container division. Based in Deerfield, Illinois, a suburb north of Chicago, Gaylord Container completed its initial public offering in July 1988 and was listed on the American Stock Exchange. After less than 16 years as a company, it was acquired by a competitor, Temple-Inland, in early 2002, which was acquired by International Paper a decade later in 2012.

North Glenview is one of two commuter railroad stations on Metra's Milwaukee District North Line in Glenview, Illinois. The station is located at 3000 Old Willow Road, is 18.5 miles (29.8 km) away from Union Station, the southern terminus of the line, and serves commuters between Union Station and Fox Lake, Illinois. In Metra's zone-based fare system, North Glenview is in zone D. As of 2018, North Glenview is the 34th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 1,163 weekday boardings.As of 2022, North Glenview is served by 14 inbound trains and all 19 outbound trains on weekdays, by all 10 trains in both directions on Saturdays, and by all nine trains in both directions on Sundays. It is proposed that the Amtrak trains, the Hiawatha Service and Empire Builder, which currently serve Glenview, one stop south, would shift here. This move would eliminate lengthy stops which block traffic on Glenview Road. This move would involve reconstruction of the North Glenview station to handle the additional traffic, and depends on commitments from Glenview, the Illinois General Assembly and Metra.

Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago is a children's museum in Glenview, Illinois that provides a hands-on learning laboratory for children ages birth to 8. It is named for philanthropist Dolores Kohl, daughter of the founder of Kohl’s department stores, who founded the museum through her education foundation in 1985. Located on an 8.8-acre (36,000 m2) site, including a 46,700-square-foot (4,340 m2) museum building and a 2-acre (0.81 ha) outdoor exhibit space, the museum features exhibits and programs aligned to the Illinois State Learning Standards and designed to make learning fun and interesting for young children.
