Kraainem

Zaventem (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈzaːvəntɛm]) is a Belgian municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant. It is located in the Dijleland area, one of the three large recreational areas which together form the Groene Gordel ("Green Belt") around the Brussels-Capital Region. The municipality comprises the subdivisions or deelgemeenten of Nossegem, Sint-Stevens-Woluwe, Sterrebeek and Zaventem proper. On 1 January 2006 Zaventem had a total population of 28,651. The total area is 27.62 square kilometres (10.66 square miles), which gives a population density of 1,037 inhabitants per km2. The official language is Dutch as it is within the Flemish Region. Zaventem is the home of Brussels Airport, together with neighbouring town of Diegem.

Brussels American School (BAS) was opened in October 1967. It is located near Brussels, Belgium on a 17-acre (69,000 m2) area in Sterrebeek, part of the municipality of Zaventem, Flemish Brabant. The school serves as a DoDDS school for all US military and DOD civilian sponsor dependents, who are allowed to enroll their children tuition free. Non-DOD persons, including U.S., Belgian, and other citizens, are required to pay tuition. It celebrated its fortieth anniversary in late 2007. It also takes European students from Partnership for Peace (PfP) countries of NATO, to include Macedonia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia etc. Its proximity to NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) helps serve as an opportunity for American children to enroll in a school taught to familiarize them with the American school system.

Sint-Stevens-Woluwe (Woluwe-Saint-Étienne in French) a town in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant and is part of Zaventem municipality. The town is located near the Brussels-Capital Region.

Kraainem/Crainhem is a Brussels Metro station in the municipality of Woluwe-St.-Lambert/St.-Lambrechts-Woluwe, Brussels. Since 4 April 2009 the station has been served by Metro line 1 (previously line 1B). It is located near the intersection of the Wezembeeklaan (fr: Avenue de Wezembeek), Mounierlaan (Avenue Mounier), and Kraainemlaan (Avenue de Kraainem). It has a large park-and-ride lot and is also the terminus for a number of inbound regional bus routes of De Lijn as well as for the STIB/MIVB bus routes 30 and 31. The station was inaugurated in 1988 with the extension of the Eastern branch of line 1B from Alma to Stockel/Stokkel. Due to its location in a park-and-ride lot, it is one of the few Brussels Metro stations that has its own station building on the surface (most other stations having only an underground mezzanine). Originally, the station was just called Kraainem, using only Dutch spelling, as it was technically named after the Kraainemlaan (fr: Avenue de Kraainem) (a road using Dutch spelling for both its Dutch and French names), not after the nearby municipality (Dutch: gemeente, French: commune) of Kraainem. However, French speakers in the Brussels community quickly protested against what they regarded as a violation of bilingual language facilities and insisted that the French form Crainhem be added to the name of the station. Thus the station is today usually held to be named after the municipality of Kraainem, even though it is not actually located on its territory, but partly under the UCLouvain Bruxelles Woluwe university campus.

The Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc (UCLouvain Saint-Luc) is a non-profit academic hospital of the University of Louvain (UCLouvain), located on the university campus of UCLouvain Bruxelles Woluwe in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, Brussels, Belgium. The hospital opened on 23 August 1976, moving from Leuven to Brussels.

The CHU UCLouvain Namur or CHU UCL Namur (also called UCLouvain Namur by the University of Louvain and officially named Centre hospitalier universitaire Dinant Godinne Saint-Elisabeth - UCL-Namur) is a university hospital located in the cities of Namur, Dinant, Yvoir and Ciney, in the Belgian province of Namur. Established in 2015, it is UCLouvain's second hospital.

Haute École Léonard de Vinci is a Catholic institution of higher education of the French Community of Belgium, based on 3 campus (two in Brussels and one in Louvain-la-Neuve). It offers short-type courses (bachelor), long type (master) and specializations in these three sectors: Health Social studies Science and TechnologyIt was formed in 1995 through the grouping of a number of pre-existent institutions: ECAM - École centrale des arts et métiers (an industrial engineering college) ENCBW-IESP - École normale catholique du Brabant wallon - Institut d’enseignement supérieur pédagogique (a teacher training college) ISEI - Institut Supérieur d'Enseignement Infirmier (a paramedical college) IESP2A - Institut d'Enseignement supérieur Parnasse-Deux Alice (a paramedical college), which itself was created through the merger of two Brussels nurse schools: The Institut Parnasse The Institut des Deux-Alice, founded in 1937 ILMH - Institut libre Marie Haps (a college providing education in translation, psychology, and speech therapy) IPL - Institut Paul Lambin (a college for medical and biological technology) In 2019, ECAM, the school's only department offering Master's studies, left the Haute École Leonard de Vinci to join the Haute École « ICHEC-ISC Saint-Louis-ISFSC », which became ICHEC-ECAM-ISFSC. Following this, the governance of the Haute Ecole Leonard de Vinci has been reviewed in September 2019 and the historical institutions have given way to the three sectors (health; social studies; science and technology).

Alma is a Brussels Metro station on line 1. It is located in the municipality of Woluwe-Saint-Lambert / Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe, serving the UCLouvain Brussels Woluwe campus of the University of Louvain (UCLouvain), and was opened on 7 May 1982. Desined by Lucien Kroll as a total artwork, it takes its name from its location on the Place de l'Alma, the university campus' main square. The original eastern terminus of the former line 1B was at Tomberg, prior to the opening of the extension to Alma. Alma station then served as the terminus until 1988, when the line was further extended to Stockel/Stokkel.

The Woluwe is a stream that goes through several municipalities in the southeast and east of Brussels and is a right tributary of the Senne/Zenne (in Vilvoorde). The Kleine Maalbeek is a tributary of the Woluwe (in Kraainem). Many ponds formed along the stream over time, among which the Mellaerts Ponds still exist. The valley of the Woluwe crosses the municipalities of Auderghem, Watermael-Boitsfort, Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, Kraainem, Zaventem, Machelen and Vilvoorde. The towns of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and Sint-Stevens-Woluwe derive their name from it.

Wezembeek-Oppem Dutch: [ˈʋeːzɛmˌbeːk ˈɔpɛm] (listen) is a municipality in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant, 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) east of the centre of Brussels. The municipality only comprises the town of Wezembeek-Oppem proper. On January 1, 2016, Wezembeek-Oppem had a total population of 14,095. The total area is 6.82 km² which gives a population density of 2,066 inhabitants per km². Wezembeek-Oppem is home to a large community of international expatriates, in part because of the presence of the Internationale Deutsche Schule Brüssel (iDSB) in Wezembeek-Oppem itself, and the British School of Brussels in nearby Tervuren.

The European School, Brussels II (French: École Européenne Bruxelles 2) is one of thirteen European Schools in the European Union (EU), and of four in Brussels. It is situated on Avenue Oscar Jespers, in the Brussels suburb of Woluwe-Saint-Lambert.The school is an all-through school catering for nursery, primary and secondary pupils, culminating in the awarding of the European Baccalaureate as its secondary leaving qualification. Pupils of the school are enrolled in either the Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Finnish, Swedish, Lithuanian (up to S6), or Portuguese language sections. Founded in 1974 after the first enlargement of the European Communities, the European School, Brussels II prioritises, the children of EU staff for enrolment purposes. Children of non-EU staff may enrol provided there is capacity. However, the School has been filled above its theoretical student capacity for multiple years. Enrolment in the four Brussels based European Schools is administered centrally.

Stokkel (Dutch) or Stockel (French, ancient Dutch spelling) is the eastern terminus of line 1 (formerly line 1B) on the Brussels Metro. The station opened on 31 August 1988 and is located in the municipality of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre (Sint-Pieters-Woluwe).
