Fort Médoc is a fort built by Vauban, nearby Cussac-Fort-Médoc, in Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. The earthworks were started in 1689 and construction of the fort itself in 1691. The fort was an element of the "lock" intended to protect Bordeaux against the risk of invasion from the river, having been built on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, complementing Fort Paté, and the Blaye Citadel, which is located on the right hand bank of the Gironde. With the Citadel of Blaye, its city walls and Fort Paté, Fort Médoc was listed in 2008 as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as part of the "Fortifications of Vauban" group.

Cussac-Fort-Médoc is a commune in the Gironde department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. Fort Médoc in Cussac-Fort-Médoc, together with several buildings in nearby Blaye, was listed in 2008 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as part of the "Fortifications of Vauban" group.

Château Chasse-Spleen is a winery in the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation of the Bordeaux region of France, just north-west of Margaux. Château Chasse-Spleen was selected as one of six Crus Exceptionnels in the Cru Bourgeois classification of 1932, and through later revisions until the annulment of the classification in 2007. The estate is today widely considered to be of cru classé standard. The name means "to chase away the blues" or "dispels melancholy". A second wine is produced under the label L'Héritage de Chasse-Spleen and another titled l'Oratoire de Chasse-Spleen.

Fort Paté is a round, tower-like Vauban fort on Paté Island in the Gironde estuary, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. It, with its twin Fort Médoc on the mainland and the citadel of Blaye, protected Bordeaux from attack by sea. With them, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008 as one of the fortifications of Vauban, bearing witness to the importance of Vauban's work in the history and of military architecture in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Château La Tour de Mons, archaically named Tour de Marsac, is a winery and wine from the appellation Margaux, located in the Left Bank of the Bordeaux wine region of France, in the commune of Soussans. The wine was rated Cru Supérieur in the Cru Bourgeois classification of 1932, and through later revisions until the temporary annulment of the classification in 2007. The winery also produces a second wine named Marquis de Mons Margaux.

The winery of what was formerly known separately as Château Labégorce-Margaux and Château Labégorce-Zédé lies in the commune of Margaux in the Médoc region in the département of Gironde. In 2005, the two wines were consolidated under the name Château Labégorce, while Zédé de Labégorce is used as a name for the second wine. Château Labégorce-Zédé was classified as one of 9 Crus Bourgeois Exceptionnels as of the 2003 listing. The vineyard is planted in gravelly terrain on the left bank of the Garonne estuary in the Margaux Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée of the Bordeaux region of France.

Château Beychevelle is a winery in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Bordeaux region of France. The wine produced here was classified as one of ten Quatrièmes Crus (Fourth Growths) in the historic Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. The chateau makes a second label wine called Amiral de Beychevelle.

Château Branaire is a winery in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Bordeaux region of France. Château Branaire is also the name of the main red wine produced by this property and which was classified as one of the ten 'Fourth Growths' (Quatrièmes Crus) in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855.

Château Lanessan is a Bordeaux wine estate in the Haut-Médoc appellation, located on the Left Bank of France’s Bordeaux wine regions in the commune of Cussac near Fort Médoc. The estate held a rating of Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, until this specific classification was annulled. Some critics have suggested that it ought to be elevated to a higher classification. Lanessan has also produced a second wine Les Calèches de Lanessan (English: "Carriages of Lanessan") since 1999, emphasising the château's ties with horses.

The Battle of Blaye of 1593, also known as the Battle of Bec d'Ambès (in French) or Battle of the Gironde Estuary, was a naval Spanish victory that took place on 18 April 1593 off Blaye and Bec d'Ambès, Gironde Estuary, France, during the seven-month siege of Blaye between the French-Protestant forces of Henry of Navarre and the French-Catholic garrison of the city led by Governor Jean-Paul d'Esparbès de Lussan d'Aubeterre, in the context of the Brittany Campaign during the French Wars of Religion and the Anglo-Spanish War (1585–1604).
