Watersfield

Waltham Brooks is a 47.4-hectare (117-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south-west of Pulborough in West Sussex. It is owned and managed by the Sussex Wildlife Trust and is part of the Arun Valley Ramsar site and Special Protection Area.This is one of the few remaining areas of grazing marsh in the county and it has a rich variety of aquatic flora, including one nationally rare species, the small water-pepper. Many bird species winter at the site, including three in nationally important numbers, Bewick’s swan, teal and shoveler.There is access to footpaths through the site.

Coldwaltham is a village and civil parish in the Horsham District of West Sussex, England. It is divided in two by the A29 road and lies 2.4 miles (3.9 km) southwest of Pulborough which has both a railway station on the Arun Valley Line and a bus connection to Worthing. It is around a 30-minute drive from Gatwick Airport. The 2011 Census population included the village of Hardham plus hamlet of Watersfield. The 13th century Anglican parish church is dedicated to Saint Giles; a rare 11th century gravestone and a simple Saxon font are present on the site. A yew tree near the north west corner is among the oldest in England, believed to be over 3000 years old. There is one pub, the Labouring Man. Sandham Hall is used for village events. The Church of England primary school shares a headteacher with Amberley School.

Fittleworth railway station served the village of Fittleworth in the county of West Sussex in England. It was on the London Brighton and South Coast Railway's line between Pulborough and Midhurst. The station opened some years after the line (1859) in September 1889 and closed to passengers in February 1955. Freight traffic from Fittleworth ceased in 1963 three years before total closure in 1966. The small station building remained undeveloped for many years. However it was restored and converted into a private dwelling in 1987.

Bury is a village and civil parish in the Chichester district of West Sussex, England. It is located on the A29 road, around 5 miles (8 km) south-west of Pulborough. The villages of Bury and nearby West Burton are sited at the foot of the scarp slope of the South Downs, where springs from the chalk strata provided a constant supply of clean water. The Anglican parish church of St. John the Evangelist lies east of the village centre on the west bank of the River Arun. The church is dominated by a 12th Century tower with a cedar-shingled spire. There was formerly a passenger ferry by rowing boat to Amberley on the east bank.There are many old houses in the village and a large modern village hall. There is one pub, the Squire and Horse, beside the A29 road. Bury House close to the pub was the home of author John Galsworthy for the final seven years of his life. West Burton, across some fields to the west, is smaller than Bury and has many interesting old houses. The village has a cricket club which plays its home matches at Bury Common. The parish has a land area of 1315 hectares (3247 acres). In the 2001 census 691 people lived in 264 households, of whom 319 were economically active. The 2011 Census recorded a population of 642.

West Burton is a small hamlet in the Parish of Bury and the Chichester district of West Sussex, England. It lies between Bignor and Bury on the Lower Greensand ridge, 4.5 miles (7.2 km) southwest of Pulborough. It is one of a string of Saxon settlements at the foot of the South Downs escarpment where springs from the chalk strata provided clean reliable water supply.

Coates is a downland village in the Chichester district of West Sussex, England. Coates lies one mile (1.7 km) southwest from Fittleworth and four miles (6.8 km) south-east-by-south from Petworth. It is within the ancient divisions of the Bury Hundred and the Rape of Arundel.The village is bounded north by the Rother Navigation.

Amberley Castle stands in the village of Amberley, West Sussex (grid reference TQ027132). The castle was erected as a 12th-century manor house and fortified in 1377, giving it a rhomboid shaped stonework enclosure with high curtain walls, internal towers in each corner, a hall and a gateway. It was used as a fortress by the bishops of Chichester. The walls, gateway and two of the towers remain as a Grade I listed building and are now in use as a privately owned hotel.

Amberley Wild Brooks or Amberley Wildbrooks is a 327.5-hectare (809-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Storrington in West Sussex. An area of 80 hectares (200 acres) is a nature reserve managed by the Sussex Wildlife Trust It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Nature Conservation Review site. It is also part of the Arun Valley Ramsar site, Special Area of Conservation and Special Protection Area.This area of grazing marsh, which is dissected by drainage ditches, has a number of uncommon invertebrates, particularly dragonflies, and 156 species of flowering plants have been recorded. It is also important for wintering birds, with nationally significant numbers of teal, shoveler and Bewick’s swan. There are two rare snails, Anisus vorticulus and Pseudamnicola confusa.

Hardham Priory was an Augustinian priory in Hardham, West Sussex, England. It was founded around 1248 by Sir William Dawtrey as a priory of Black Canons of St Augustine which was at first called Heringham Priory. It was enlarged by Sir William Pagnell during the reign of Edward III, but fell into disrepair in the late 15th century and was disbanded in 1534 as part of the Dissolution of the Monasteries.Its remains stand in an area of water meadows next to the River Arun, 1⁄2 mile (0.80 km) southwest of the village of Hardham. The refectory building has been converted into a farmhouse, which is a Grade I listed building.

Stopham is a hamlet and civil parish in the District of Chichester in West Sussex, England, about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) west of Pulborough on the A283 road. It is in the civil parish of Fittleworth. The parish has a land area of 874 acres (354 ha). The 2001 Census recorded 87 people living in 39 households, of whom 40 were economically active.

Fittleworth is a village and civil parish in the District of Chichester in West Sussex, England located seven kilometres (3 miles) west from Pulborough on the A283 road and three miles (5 km) south east from Petworth. The village has an Anglican church, a primary school and one pub, The Swan. It is within the ancient divisions of the Bury Hundred and the Rape (county subdivision) of Arundel. The village is bounded south by the Rother Navigation. In the 2001 census the parish covered 1,164 hectares (2,875 acres) and had 405 households with a total population of 931 people, of whom 434 were economically active. The 2011 Census included the hamlets of Egdean and Stopham and had a population of 978.
