Lewis and Clark Community College is a public community college in Godfrey, Illinois. It serves approximately 3,973 credit and non-credit students annually. The college has nine locations throughout the St. Louis Metro East, including a campus and humanities center in Edwardsville, Illinois; community education centers in Alton, Illinois, Carlinville, Illinois and Jerseyville, Illinois; a training center in Bethalto, Illinois; a river research center in East Alton, Illinois; and a location at the East St. Louis Higher Education Center in East St. Louis, Illinois. Lewis and Clark community college has career and transfer study options. The college also offers personal enrichment programming for adults and children, as well as corporate and safety training options for professionals.

The Benjamin Godfrey Memorial Chapel is a historic chapel located on the campus of Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, Illinois, named for school and town founder Benjamin Godfrey. The chapel was built in 1854 to serve the Church of Christ, a church formed by three Christian denominations at the Monticello Female Seminary. The Greek Revival chapel has a raised temple front with six Doric columns supporting a pediment; a Gothic steeple rises above the entrance. The Historic American Buildings Survey documented the church in 1934 and named it one of the six most representative New England–style churches built outside of New England. Monticello Female Seminary, later known as Monticello College, used the chapel for daily religious services, convocation and commencement ceremonies, and student productions and performances. In 1971, Monticello College closed, and Lewis and Clark Community College took over its campus.The chapel was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 10, 1979.

Godfrey Township is located in Madison County, Illinois, in the United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 17,982 and it contained 7,708 housing units. Godfrey Township is coterminous with the municipality of Godfrey, Illinois. It is one of two coterminous townships in Madison County and one of seventeen coterminous townships statewide. As of May 20, 2019, Godfrey Township has been dissolved.

Alton Square Mall is a 634,181 square feet (58,917.3 m2) shopping mall located in Alton, Illinois. Its anchor store is JCPenney. A second anchor structure formerly housed a Sears, and currently houses an eight screen NCG Cinemas theater, while a third anchor structure, housing a Macy's, was demolished in 2017.

Alton Little Theater, founded in 1933, is a non-profit community theater located in Alton, Illinois. Dorothy Colonius, a local English teacher, along with other educators and their students worked to create a community theater in Alton. Dorothy became the permanent artistic director and pushed for a permanent home for the theater. [1] Alton Little Theater (ALT) is the oldest live theater in Illinois run continuous shows. [2] ALT traditionally produces five shows a year from September to May. As of the start of their 89th season in 2022, they have had over 500 productions. ALT regularly receives nominations for Arts For Life awards, most recently garnering several nominations (and two wins) for their 2009 production of Radio Gals.

Alton Community Unit School District #11 in Madison County, Illinois is a public school district consisting of seven elementary schools, one high school, one middle school, an early childhood center, and an alternative education school. They have a high school football team that play frequent games.

The Post House is a historic house located at 1516 State St. in Alton, Illinois, United States. William Post, a steamboat captain who later became mayor of Alton, built the house in 1837–38. The brick and limestone house is designed in the Greek Revival style. The house's front facade features four Doric columns topped by an entablature and a pedimented gable end. The front porch of the house wraps around both sides, each of which has an additional column and a pilaster. The cornice and front pediment are both dentillated. James Patterson, owner of the Illinois Iron Works, purchased the house in 1854; Patterson may have added the iron porch railing.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 28, 1980.

McPike Mansion, or Mount Lookout, is a mansion in Alton, which is part of the Metro-East region of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Illinois. Built in 1869 by Henry Guest McPike (1825–1910), it is situated on Alby Street on a site of 15 acres (61,000 m2), one of the highest points in Alton, which was called Mount Lookout.

The Guertler House is a historic house located at 101 Blair St. in Alton, Illinois. Stonemason Ignaz Bruch built the house in 1854. Bruch, who immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1846, was a prominent Illinois stonemason who constructed buildings in cities ranging from Chicago to St. Louis, Missouri. The Guertler House is a Federal building with three bays. The front door and windows have a pointed arch design, while the second story of the house's west side has a single Gothic arch window.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 30, 1974.

Alton ( AWL-tən) is a city on the Mississippi River in Madison County, Illinois, United States, about 18 miles (29 km) north of St. Louis, Missouri. The population was 25,676 at the 2020 census. It is a part of the River Bend area in the Metro-East region of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area. It is famous for its limestone bluffs along the river north of the city, as the former location of the state penitentiary, and for its role preceding and during the American Civil War. It was the site of the last Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas debate in October 1858. The former state penitentiary in Alton was used during the Civil War to hold up to 12,000 Confederate prisoners of war.

Alton Township is located in Madison County, Illinois, in the United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 27,865 and it contained 13,266 housing units.
