Benllech

Tyn-y-Gongl or Ty'n-y-gongl is a village and post town, just west of the town of Benllech and east of Brynteg, on the island of Anglesey (Welsh: Ynys Môn), north Wales.

Llanfair-Mathafarn-Eithaf (Welsh pronunciation: [ɬanvairˌmaθavanˌaːiθav]) is a parish and community in Anglesey, Wales including the small seaside town of Benllech. The community population taken at the 2011 census was 3,382.Local buildings include the medieval St Mary's Church, where the 18th century poet Goronwy Owen once served as curate. The parish has five Scheduled Monuments, including two collections of hut circles and the stone remains of a dolmen type Neolithic burial mound, called the Pant-y-Saer Cromlech. The remains of a Viking Age settlement have also been found in the parish. The parish lies on an area of Carboniferous Limestone and supports a variety of wildlife, including red squirrels. The Cors Goch nature reserve is a rich fenland habitat in the west of the parish and is designated an SSSI.Other settlements include Brynteg, Llanbedrgoch, Tyn-y-Gongl, and Red Wharf Bay.

Red Wharf Bay and Benllech railway station was the terminus station of the Red Wharf Bay branch line, which ran between Holland Arms and Benllech, off the Anglesey Central Railway.

Pant-y-Saer is a Neolithic dolmen near the small town of Benllech in Anglesey, Wales. This burial chamber is partially collapsed with the massive capstone resting on the ground at one end. The remains of fifty-six people who were buried here have been found during excavations.

St Mary's Church, Llanfair Mathafarn Eithaf is a small medieval church in Anglesey, north Wales. The earliest parts of the building, including the nave and the north doorway, date from the 14th century. Other parts, including the chancel and the east window, date from the 15th century. It is associated with the Welsh poet and clergyman Goronwy Owen, who was born nearby and served as curate here. He later travelled to America to teach at The College of William & Mary, Virginia. The church is still in use for worship, as part of the Church in Wales, as one of three churches in the combined parish of Llanfair Mathafarn Eithaf with Llanbedrgoch with Pentraeth. It is a Grade II* listed building, a national designation given to "particularly important buildings of more than special interest", because it is a "good rural church retaining substantial medieval fabric."

Llanbedrgoch railway station was situated on the Red Wharf Bay branch line between Holland Arms railway station and Benllech, the penultimate station on the line off the main Anglesey Central Railway in Wales. Opening in 1909, it was a very simple station with only one short platform on the Up (east) side and a wooden waiting hut. It was an unstaffed request stop with no goods yard or sidings.The station closed in 1930, as did the line itself to passenger trains, and the station building removed. The tracks themselves were taken up in 1953 and the location of the platform is now a caravan site.

Castell Mawr (known in English as Castle Rock) is a large limestone rock that dominates the western shore of Red Wharf Bay in Anglesey, north Wales. It was probably once the site of an Iron Age fort, but today the rock is a protected refuge for nesting seabirds.It is located between the village of Red Wharf Bay and the promontory where St. David's Holiday Park is sited. The closest large villages are Pentraeth and Benllech. The site is notable for being the only location on Anglesey displaying genuine karst development in a series of small caves and solutional cavities. Castell Mawr was selected by the Countryside Council for Wales because of its geological interest, as it provides exposures of carboniferous limestone strata. The rock consists of limestone and sandstone layers, part of the Benllech Limestone formed during the Brigantian Stage of the lower Carboniferous period. The limestone was once mined and exported to other centres in the UK and Ireland.

The Red Wharf Bay branch line was a standard gauge railway line in Anglesey, Wales, a branch off the Anglesey Central Railway. It opened fully in 1909, but closed to passengers in September 1930. Freight operations continued until 3 April 1950, and the tracks were lifted during the summer of 1953.

Llanbedrgoch (Welsh pronunciation) is a hamlet and post town, a mile south of the town of Benllech and west of Red Wharf Bay, on the island of Anglesey (Welsh: Ynys Môn), north Wales. The parish church is St Peter's Church, Llanbedrgoch, a Grade II* listed building that dates back to the 15th century.The historical settlements in the area have been subject of archaeological exploration. The village hosted the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 1999. Prior to the 2013 council elections, Llanbedrgoch was a single councillor ward to the Isle of Anglesey County Council, though following The Isle of Anglesey (Electoral Arrangements) Order 2012 the ward was amalgamated into a new multi-councillor ward, Lligwy.

Marian-glas or Marianglas (Welsh pronunciation) is a small village and post town in Anglesey, north-west Wales. It lies between the larger villages of Moelfre and Benllech and just off the A5025. There is a large caravan park on the edge of the village and several camp sites. There is a church and pub but no shop. It has a memorial to those killed in the two world wars, including a list of 17 seamen from the Merchant Navy.Marian-glas Hut Group is an unenclosed hut circle (53.3379°N 4.2516°W / 53.3379; -4.2516 (Marian-glas Hut Group), SH501846). This Scheduled Ancient Monument (Cadw SAM No. AN093) is a roundhouse settlement dating at least back to Roman times. It is also called Cae Marh Hut Group. There are several huts with thick walls, some standing up to 1.4m high. Some of the huts' walls are now obscured by a thicket, while others are visible as wall lines in the lawns of Marianglas caravan park. The location is indicated on the ground through a signboard by the Ministry of Public Building and Works (which dates the sign to 1962–70).

St Peter's Church, Llanbedrgoch, is a small medieval parish church near the village of Llanbedrgoch in Anglesey, north Wales. The oldest parts of the building date from the 15th century; it was extended in the 17th century and restored twice in the 19th century. The doorway is decorated with carvings of two human heads, one wearing a mitre. The church contains a reading desk made from 15th-century bench ends, one carved with a mermaid holding a mirror and comb. The church is still used for worship by the Church in Wales, as of 2013, and is one of three in a group of parishes. It is a Grade II* listed building, a national designation given to "particularly important buildings of more than special interest", because of its "substantial medieval fabric".

Traeth Bychan (Traeth = 'beach', Bychan = 'small') is a beach on the isle of Anglesey, Wales. The beach is between the villages of Benllech and Moelfre. It faces eastwards and so offers shelter from the prevailing southwesterly winds. It is popular with walkers on the Anglesey Coastal Path and is used by members of the Red Wharf Bay Sailing and Watersports Club. This quiet beach is famous as the spot where the submarine HMS Thetis was beached after a tragic accident which occurred off the coast, when the vessel was carrying out trials in 1939.There is a cafe and public toilets within the pay & display car park. Nearby, is the small town of Benllech and the village of Marian-Glas.
