The Bank of the Commonwealth, also known as the Old Stone Bank, is a historic building on the National Register of Historic Places in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. According to its registration it was constructed around 1809 and operated by Abraham Field as Kentucky's first bank. Although Field, a local merchant, purchased the property in 1821, the rest of this history is in doubt, as is the building's connection to the state-owned Bank of the Commonwealth.

The Shepherdsville train wreck was a fatal rail accident that killed at least 49 people when an express collided with a local train at Shepherdsville, Kentucky on December 20, 1917. It was the deadliest train wreck in Kentucky's history. Blame was chiefly attributed to negligence by the driver and flagman of the local train, though the standard signalling routines were also found to be inadequate.

Bullitt County is a county located in the north central portion of the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 82,217. Its county seat is Shepherdsville. The county was founded in 1796. Located just south of the city of Louisville, Bullitt County is included in the Louisville/Jefferson County, KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area, commonly known as Kentuckiana. The western fifth of the county (62 sq. miles/40,000 acres (160 km2)) is part of the United States Army post of Fort Knox and is reserved for military training.

Floyds Fork

Floyds Fork is a 62-mile-long (100 km) tributary of the Salt River in Kentucky, directly south and east of Louisville. It begins in Henry County, near Smithfield Kentucky, flows through eastern Jefferson County and flows into the Salt River near Shepherdsville in Bullitt County. It runs for about 30 miles (48 km) through Jefferson County and drains approximately 122 square miles (320 km2), making it the largest watershed in the county. It is also the least environmentally compromised watershed in the county, according to the Metropolitan Sewer District, as large-scale development in the southeastern portions of Jefferson County is still relatively sparse. To preserve its rural character, much of Floyds Fork south of I-64 was zoned rural residential in 1993.At Mount Washington, Floyds Fork has a discharge of approximately 387 cubic feet per second.The proposed City of Parks initiative by Louisville would purchase 2,000 acres (8.1 km2) of land along the river and establish three to four parks, as well as hiking and other recreational trails.Floyds Fork is named for John Floyd, an early surveyor of the area. During the Civil War, Confederate and Union forces skirmished on Floyds Fork and what is now US 60 (Shelbyville Road, locally) on October 1, 1862.
