Hull General Cemetery was established by a private company in 1847 on Spring Bank (now Spring Bank West) in the west of Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. In 1862 the Hull Corporation established a cemetery adjacent, now known as Western Cemetery, and in c. 1890 expanded the cemetery west across Chanterlands Avenue onto an adjacent site. The General Cemetery contains several notable monument and burials, including a monument to a cholera outbreak in 1849, as well as the graves of many notable persons of the Victoria era and early 20th century of Kingston upon Hull. The General Cemetery closed in 1972, the Western Cemetery is, as of 2018, still in use. In 2018, a community group of volunteers, The Friends of Hull General Cemetery, was formed and have taken on the challenge of caring for this heritage site of special natural interest. The group was formed as a subcommittee of the Hull Civic Society. It meets regularly at the Avenues Centre, Park Avenue, Hull. During its short life it has generated a significant amount of interest in the cemetery from the general public and plans are afoot to bid for local and national funding to make the cemetery a more hospitable place for the community to visit yet still retain its historical significance and environmental importance for future generations. Botanic Gardens TMD is a traction maintenance depot in Kingston upon Hull in Yorkshire, England. As built it was one of the principal steam engine sheds in the Hull area, Botanic Gardens was the one closest to the main Hull Paragon station and its locomotives were responsible for working passenger services in the area. This entry also covers the engine sheds in the Paragon area that preceded Botanic Gardens.

The Town Cricket Club Ground on Argyle Street in Hull, England, hosted four first-class matches between 1875 and 1879.North and South England XIs clashed on three occasions, while Yorkshire played Surrey in a County Championship fixture in the last match held there. W.G. Grace scored 126 for the United South of England Eleven in 1876, whilst Ephraim Lockwood scored centuries for the North of England cricket team on two occasions. Tom Emmett took 8 for 54 for the North of England in 1875. The ground was closed in 1897 and developed by the railway.

Hymers College is a co-educational independent day school in Kingston upon Hull, located on the site of the old Botanical Gardens. It is one of the leading schools in the East Riding of Yorkshire and a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference.The school was founded following the death in 1887 of the Revd Dr John Hymers, Rector of Brandesburton, who left a substantial sum in his will for the founding of a school "for the training of intelligence in whatever social rank of life it may be found among the vast and varied population of the town and port of Hull". Construction of the buildings was completed in 1893, and the first pupils arrived in September of that year. The school, initially open only to boys, expanded to include girls incrementally from the 1970s, becoming fully co-educational in 1989.Presently, Hymers educates about 950 pupils aged 4–18 across the Pre-School, Junior and Senior Schools, with about 100 members of the teaching staff. The two major intakes of pupils are at age 4, into Year 1, age 7, into Year 3, and age 11, into Year 7. Additionally, some pupils enter at 14, into Year 10, and some at 16, into the Sixth Form. Old Hymerians include several prominent sportspeople, diplomats, academics and politicians, including the physicist Dr Edward Milne MBE FRS, who worked on the problem of the expanding universe, alongside Albert Einstein.

Hull Botanical Gardens were established in 1812 on a 5-acre (2.0 ha) site near what is now called Linnaeus Street, Hull, England.In 1877 they moved to a 49-acre (20 ha) site in Spring Bank, Hull, but closed in 1889 due to financial difficulty. In 1893 the site became the location of Hymers College. The Hull Botanic Gardens railway station is a disused railway station named after the nearby gardens.

The Hull Paragon Rail accident was a rail crash that took place at Hull Paragon railway station. On 14 February 1927, on the approaches to Hull Paragon station, the incoming 08:22 from Withernsea to Hull collided head-on with the 09:05 from Hull to Scarborough. Twelve passengers were killed and 24 were seriously injured. This happened despite the tracks having the latest safety features available at the time: a system of interlocking should have made it impossible to give clear signals to trains unless the route to be used is proved to be safe. In his book LTC Rolt comments that "Scarcely any safety device existing at the time was lacking on the network of lines outside Paragon station..." - however, one safety device did exist and was lacking - a track circuit which had been invented in the USA in the 1870s and began to be used in the UK from the beginning of the 20th century. There were no track circuits protecting the layout at Hull in February 1927. In his report on the accident, Col. JW Pringle recommended installation of a track circuit, which the LNER then carried out. Three signalmen were present in the signalbox, the enquiry found that one of them had pulled the wrong lever; he had intended to set the points for the incoming train but instead set the points ahead of the Scarborough. The points were locked and could not be moved as long as the signal ahead of the Scarborough train was at clear, and also by the presence of locomotive or vehicle wheels on the locking bar immediately in rear of the points. One of the other signalmen was setting the signals behind the Scarborough train to danger and, in contravention of the rules, this was done whilst the train was still passing the signal and before it had reached the locking bar. This released the locking on the points for some 1.9 seconds before the Scarborough train reached the locking bar, allowing the points to be changed by the application of the wrong lever. A combination of these two failings led to the disaster.

The Western General Hospital was an acute general hospital in Kingston upon Hull, England.

Anlaby Road was a sports venue in Hull. The ground was used for football club Hull City between 1906 and 1939. The record attendance was 32,000 in a FA Cup game against Newcastle United. The stands were bombed during the Second World War but Hull City used the site for training and reserve matches until 1965, when a railway line was built over the pitch.

Kingstown Radio is a hospital radio station founded in 1961 and based in Kingston upon Hull, England, broadcasting on 1350 kHz (AM), to patient's bedside Hospedia systems and via the local NHS intranet across the Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust. It is a registered charity. Broadcasting music, news, sport and health information to staff and patients, its Hull City live commentaries were partially popular beyond its usual audiences, alongside BBC Radio Humberside it was the only station broadcasting these games live. Former volunteer presenters include Jon Culshaw, a popular comedian, and James Hoggarth, who later joined BBC Radio Humberside and more recently became their music editor. The station has been at more than one site during its history, but for many years, Kingstown Radio was based at Hull Royal Infirmary, sharing a building with flats for nurses and doctors upstairs from the studio. However in 2021, the studio building was pulled down with short notice of only a few weeks; as of August 2022 the station is no longer broadcasting and is currently seeking a new studio space to move to, with the station unable to find a site at Hull Royal Infirmary due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Londesborough Barracks is a military installation in Kingston upon Hull, England.

Hull Royal Infirmary is a tertiary teaching hospital and is one of the two main hospitals for Kingston upon Hull (the other being Castle Hill Hospital in nearby Cottingham). It is situated on Anlaby Road, just outside the city centre, and is run by Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Avenues is an area of high status Victorian housing located in the north-west of Kingston upon Hull, England. It is formed by four main tree-lined straight avenues running west off the north-north-east/south-south-west running Princes Avenue. The Avenues area, originally built as middle class housing in the late 19th century, has remained a popular residential area; its popularity with left wing intellectuals and academics, and varied leafy cosmopolitan ambience has caused it to be stereotyped as Hull's 'Muesli Belt'. To the adjoining south of the Avenues is an area of roughly contemporary Victorian terraces, with streets named after the seats of nobles; it is sometimes referred to as the Dukeries. Whilst primarily housing, the area hosted the Industrial School for Girls from 1888 to 1919 on Park Avenue, the building afterwards used for other educational purposes, now known as the Avenues Centre. Marlborough Avenue is the location of Froebel House Preparatory School.Princes Avenue was a popular urban shopping street during the 20th century. In the 21st century it has remained commercial with increasing numbers of specialist shops, restaurants and other food outlets.
