Vanbrugh College, York

University Radio York (commonly known as URY) is a University Radio station covering the campuses of the University of York. It was the first legal independent radio station in the United Kingdom. Broadcasting from Vanbrugh College on the University's west campus, URY has won a number of awards from various organisations including the Student Radio Association of which it is a member.

The University of York Library is the library service for students and staff at the University of York, UK. The current library physical premises comprise a series of three linked buildings to the north side of the University of York Heslington West campus. The buildings are also home to the Borthwick Institute for Archives. Since the library's inception its collections have grown to encompass more than a million items, including books, journals, music scores, theses and dissertations, and digital media.The Library is part of Library, Archives and Learning Services, which employs 168 staff, and which is in turn part of Student and Academic Services at the University of York.

Central Hall (colloquially known as "The Spaceship" for the similar appearance to a UFO) is a building of the University of York, England, designed by John Speight in the brutalist style. It was constructed in 1966–1968. The Hall is seen as a tour de force of the university, appearing on merchandise and often used as a background for university publicity. It is Grade II listed.

York Student Television (abbreviated YSTV) is England's oldest student television station. Founded in 1967, the station is based at the University of York, with its studio in James College. YSTV once held the world record for longest continuous television broadcast under a single director, and is a long-standing member of the National Student Television Association (NaSTA). YSTV creates and produces a wide range of shows, both independently and in collaboration with other university societies. Recent shows include Tea Time Chat, a weekly magazine and politics show; YorKitchen, a cookery series; YSTV Sessions, an acoustic music show; various live coverage of on and off-campus events including extensive broadcasting of Roses 2017, and irregular reports on local events under the umbrella of YSTV Reports.

James College is a college at the University of York in the United Kingdom. It is known as the "Sports College" largely due to its prowess on the Sports field but also has a diversity of events that cater to all tastes. The college crest incorporates a swan with a White Rose of York.

York Festival of Ideas is a cultural festival in York which runs for two weeks every year in June. Launched in 2011 as a partnership between the University of York and major cultural organisations in the city including York Theatre Royal, York Museums Trust, the National Centre for Early Music and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, it has since expanded to incorporate many more organisations not only from around the city but also from across the UK. The festival's aim is to "educate, entertain and inspire" in the belief that education can transform lives. With such an ethos, the festival strives to be as accessible as possible, and the majority of events are therefore free. It is one of the largest free festivals of its kind in the UK. Every year the festival offers an enormous range of world-class speakers, exhibitions, performances, guided tours and family-friendly activities, with topics ranging from history to politics to psychology and many more. On average the Festival attracts over 40,000 people each year.

The University of York (abbreviated as Ebor or York for post-nominals) is a collegiate research university in York, England. Established in 1963, the university has expanded to more than thirty departments and centres, covering a wide range of subjects. South-east of the city of York, the university campus is about 500 acres (200 hectares) in size. The original campus, Campus West, incorporates the York Science Park and the National Science Learning Centre, and its wildlife, campus lakes and greenery are prominent. In May 2007 the university was granted permission to build an extension to its main campus, on arable land just east of the nearby village of Heslington. The second campus, Campus East, opened in 2009 and now hosts five colleges and three departments as well as conference spaces, a sports village and a business start-up 'incubator'. The institution also leases King's Manor in York city centre. The university had a total income of £496.6 million in 2022–23 of which £96.8 million was from research grants and contracts, with an expenditure of £497.0 million.York was one of the first of the plate glass universities established in the 1960s, and runs a distinctive collegiate system with 11 colleges as of 2022. The eleventh college, David Kato, opened in 2022. The university is one of the original plate glass universities, and is a member of regional research groups including the N8 Group and White Rose University Consortium as well as the national Russell Group.

The Borthwick Institute for Archives is the specialist archive service of the University of York, York, England. It is one of the biggest archive repositories outside London. The Borthwick was founded in 1953 as The Borthwick Institute of Historical Research. It was originally based at St Anthony's Hall, a fifteenth-century guild hall on Peasholme Green, in central York. Since 2005 it has been based in a purpose-built building, situated adjacent to the JB Morrell Library on the University of York's Heslington West campus. This new building was made possible due to a grant of £4.4 million by the Heritage Lottery Fund and designed by Leach Rhodes Walker and Buro Happold.

The Spring Lane Building is located between the Barrick Saul building and Derwent College, in the centre of University of York's Campus West. The building was designed by Race Cottam, and provide teaching space as well as study spots.

Siward's Howe, sometimes written Siwards How and also known as Heslington Hill or Bunny Hill, is a terminal moraine located to the south-east of the city of York. The howe is situated north west of the Morrell Library building of the University of York. The southern side of the howe is part of Alcuin College of the University of York. Its imposing water tower is visible from many parts of the nearby suburbs of Tang Hall and Osbaldwick.Howe, when derived from the Old Norse: haugr, means hill, knoll, or mound and may refer to a tumulus, or barrow. Siward's Howe is named for Siward, Earl of Northumbria, the 11th-century Danish warrior. He was romanticised in the William Shakespeare play, Macbeth. Siward died at York during 1055 and is rumoured to have been buried beneath the tumuli at the wooded summit.

The Vice-Chancellor's House is a house on Spring Lane in Heslington, York. It was originally built as on-site accommodation for the vice-chancellor of the University of York in 1964, close to the vice-chancellor's office in Heslington Hall.

The Heslington Hoard is a coin hoard found in York, England, dating from the mid-4th century AD. It consisted of approximately 2,800 coins held within a pottery container. It was acquired by the Yorkshire Museum.
