Askham Richard

HM Prison Askham Grange is a women's open category prison, located in Askham Richard village in North Yorkshire, England. The prison is run by His Majesty's Prison Service.

St Mary's Church is the parish church of Askham Richard, a village in the western, rural, part of the City of York in England. The oldest part of the church is a Saxon doorway in the west wall of the vestry, but this was reassembled in the 19th century from parts found embedded in the north wall. The current church was built in the 12th century, with walls of limestone and sandstone. The south wall survives, with three windows, a doorway and a buttress. A porch was added in 1879, and this covers the entrance to another Norman doorway. This has a zigzag moulding, the teeth ornamented with leaves.In the 19th century, the north wall was rebuilt, the west gable was restored, and a vestry was added. In the west wall is a doorway with no ornament other than plain imposts, described by Nikolaus Pevsner as "very unusual". Atop the roof is a bell turret. Inside, there is no division between the nave and chancel. On the south side of the chancel, one window has stained glass, designed in 1879 by C. E. Kempe. The chancel ceiling dates from about 1890, and was designed by Temple Moore.In the porch is a square stone cross base, decorated with a serpent design. It is believed to be Norman. The church plate includes a cup, made in York in 1687.

Bilbrough () is a village and civil parish in the Selby District of North Yorkshire, England, 6 miles (10 km) south-west of York, and just outside the York city boundary. According to the 2001 Census it had a population of 319 increasing to 348 at the 2011 census.The village was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974.

Angram is a village in the civil parish of Long Marston, near Bilbrough, in North Yorkshire, England. Angram was historically a township in the ancient parish of Long Marston in the West Riding of Yorkshire. It became a civil parish in 1866. In 1974 the parish was transferred to the new county of North Yorkshire. On 1 April 1988 the parish was absorbed into the civil parish of Long Marston. In 1971 the parish had a population of 32. From 1974 to 2023 it was in the Harrogate district.

St James' Church is the parish church of Bilbrough, a village between York and Tadcaster in North Yorkshire, in England. A church was built on the site in the 12th century, initially as a chapel in the parish of Askham Richard. By the early 19th century, it remained a small building, seating 76 people, with a west tower and south door. In 1873, the church was largely demolished, with only the south-east chapel retained. The Norman font was moved to the garden of the old rectory. A new church was built to the designs of George Fowler Jones, in a broadly Norman style. The church was reordered in 1970, and the mediaeval altar stone was dug up and incorporated into the new altar table. In 1985, the church was Grade II listed.The church is built of sandstone, with a Magnesian Limestone plinth, quoins and window surrounds, and a roof of Welsh slate. There is a north-west tower, a nave and a chancel, a vestry to the north-east, and the south-east chapel. The chapel has a Perpendicular window. Inside the chapel is the tomb of Thomas Fairfax, dating from 1671.

Royal Air Force Rufforth or RAF Rufforth is a former Royal Air Force station located near Rufforth in North Yorkshire, England. It was used by only one operational squadron on long-range bombing missions during the Second World War, with most flying dedicated to conversion units under the auspices of nearby RAF Marston Moor. Post-war, the RAF used the site to house maintenance units, gliding schools and observation flights. It was completely disposed of by the MoD in 1981, and now is used for civilian light aircraft and glider flying.

Boroughbridge High School is a mixed, nonselective, state secondary school in Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, England. The school was awarded arts specialist status in September 2003. The School's 2009 Ofsted Inspection report rated the school as Grade 2 (good).

Rufforth Circuit is a disused motor racing circuit built on an airfield in North Yorkshire, England. Rufforth circuit was built on the site of a World War II bomber base, RAF Rufforth, opened in 1942. The airfield remained in active service after the war, eventually closing in 1954. Rufforth circuit opened in 1959, and held races until 1962. The circuit hosted Formula 2 and Formula Junior races between 1961 and 1978 as well as numerous sports car events. The circuit was one of many of Britain's airfields to be transformed into motor racing venues.

Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based in Askham Bryan, York, England. It also has centres in Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Saltaire and Wakefield. It was built in 1936, but not opened until after World War II as the Yorkshire Agricultural Institute. It first opened to students in 1948. The college runs courses in Agriculture, Animal Management, Veterinary Nursing, Equine, Engineering, Motorsport, Horticulture, Arboriculture, Floristry, Countryside Management, Outdoor Adventure Sport, Sport Coaching and Fitness, Uniformed Public Services and Foundation Vocational Programmes. The college farm is 1,022 acres (414 ha) and supports three farms: Westfield Farm which accommodates a 250 Holstein Friesian dairy herd and the National Beef Training Centre; East Barrow Farm which houses the college Equine Department with 53 horses and Animal Management Department; and Headley Hall Farm which is the arable farm formerly of the University of Leeds. Newton Rigg College, based in Penrith, Cumbria, became part of Askham Bryan College in 2011; while Liz Philip was Principal; in 2020 Tim Whitaker announced that teaching at the site would cease in July 2021. According to Cumbrian Lord Inglewood, the process of asset stripping may be "unlawful". Between 2016 and 2020 student numbers at Newton Rigg fell by 40%. Alumni include Geoffrey Smith, a horticulturalist, writer and broadcaster; and Joe Maiden, a horticulturalist and broadcaster for BBC Radio Leeds.

Askham Bryan is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority area of City of York in the north of England, 6 miles (10 km) south-west of York, west of Bishopthorpe, and close to Askham Richard and Copmanthorpe. According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 582, reducing to 564 at the 2011 census.The village was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. It was then a part of the district of Selby District in North Yorkshire from 1974 until 1996. Since 1996 it has been part of the City of York unitary authority.Askham Bryan is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The name comes from Ascam or Ascha meaning "enclosure of ash tree". "Bryan" is Bryan FitzAlan. He and his heirs held the manor from the 12th century.In the village is Askham Hall and nearby is Askham Bryan College of Agriculture. The village became a Conservation Area in 1980.

St Nicholas' Church is the parish church of Askham Bryan, near York in England, and is a Grade I listed building. The church was constructed in the 12th-century, while the parish was in the possession of William de Tykhill. It is in the Norman style, constructed with a mixture of limestone ashlar, sandstone rubble, and some reused Roman bricks. The nave and chancel form a single space, while there is a porch to the south, and a vestry to the north. There is a single round-arched window at the west end, and three smaller similar windows in each of the north and south walls, and also in the east end, which has a round window above.The roof is tiled, with a belfry on top, added in 1611, and a cross atop that. The porch has a triple round-headed archway, with zig-zag and small leaf mouldings. Inside there is a Jacobean pulpit and communion rail.

The Ainsty or the Ainsty of York was a historic district of Yorkshire, England, west of the city of York. Originally a wapentake or subdivision of the West Riding of Yorkshire it later had a unique status as a rural area controlled by the corporation of the city.
