Wingham Town railway station

St Mary's Church, Wingham, is an Anglican parish church in Wingham, Kent. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.

Wingham is a village and civil parish in the Dover District of Kent, England. The village lies along the ancient coastal road, now the A257, from Richborough to London, and is close to Canterbury.

Wingham (Canterbury Road) railway station was a terminus on the East Kent Light Railway. It opened in 1925 (named Wingham) and the last passenger train ran on 30 October 1948. There was a siding to the south of the road, and carriages were usually run into the station under gravity. Occasional freight/parcel trains ran until 1950 but the station was not officially closed until 1951. After closure the cutting containing the station was infilled and covered with a field of crops. The site of the sidings are now occupied by a tea shop adjacent to which is a short section of undisturbed trackbed.

Wingham Colliery railway station was a railway station on the East Kent Light Railway in southeast England. It was intended to serve Wingham Colliery, a short distance to the south, but the mine was aborted without producing any coal. The railway then tried to develop a passenger business, extending the line towards Wingham Town with the long-term aim of reaching Canterbury, but ran out of money before they did so. Today there is little trace of the station or the railway, other than a line of trees that follow the course of the old trackbed and define the edge of a field. The station buildings consisted of two small wooden structures on the north side of the track that were moved to Wingham Town when it was built; the site has now been landscaped into the field.

Wingham Wildlife Park is a medium-sized wildlife park situated near Wingham in Kent, UK where it covers an area of 26 acres (13 acres of animal housing area and a further 13 acres of car parking and overflow). In 2011 the species count at the park reached 180 species, growing to over 200 in 2013 covering fish, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and birds.

Bramling is a hamlet five miles (8 km) east of Canterbury in Kent, England. It lies on the A257 road between Littlebourne and Wingham. The local public house is called The Haywain. The population of the hamlet taken at the 2011 Census was included in the civil parish of Ickham and Well

The River Wingham is a tributary of the Little Stour in Kent, England. The river runs from its source near Ash, west, through Wingham to the Little Stour.

Ickham and Well is a mostly rural civil parish east of Canterbury in Kent, South East England. The parish covers the villages of Ickham and Bramling just off the A257 Sandwich Road. It has several listed buildings in architecture of old, well-preserved houses, with the 13th-century parish church of St John the Evangelist in the midst. A recent archaeological excavation at Ickham has revealed evidence of Roman metalwork and copper brooches.

Shatterling is a scattered hamlet located along the A257 road about two miles (3.2 km) east of Wingham in the Dover district of Kent, England. The population of the hamlet is included within the civil parish of Staple.

Goodnestone is a village and civil parish in the Dover district of Kent, England. The village is situated approximately 7 miles (11 km) east-southeast from the city of Canterbury, and 5 miles (8 km) west-southwest from Sandwich. The civil parish also contains the villages of Chillenden and Knowlton, and the hamlets of Rowling and Tickenhurst. Goodnestone's Grade I listed parish church of the Holy Cross is in the Diocese and Archdeaconry of Canterbury and the Deanery of East Bridge. The church is set adjacent to Goodnestone Park, and dates from the 12th century, with additions and alterations to the 19th. Hussey and Rickman rebuilt the nave, chancel, and south porch in 1839–41. Within the church chancel is a 1752 monument by Peter Scheemakers to Brook Bridges (died 1717), of Goodnestone Park. A curate of Holy Cross was Herbert James, the father of Cambridge academic and ghost story writer M. R. James, who was born at Goodnestone Parsonage in 1862.

Goodnestone Park is a stately home and gardens in the southern part of the village of Goodnestone, Dover, Kent. It is approximately 7 miles (11 km) from Canterbury. The Palladian house was built in 1704 by Brook Bridges, 1st Baronet. His grandson, Brook Bridges' daughter, Elizabeth, married Jane Austen's brother, and Austen visited them on the estate regularly. Goodnestone House is a Grade II* listed building, enlisted on 13 October 1952. The 15 acres (6.1 ha) gardens are considered to be amongst the finest in southeastern England. Previously the seat of the Bridges Baronets, it is now owned by their heirs, the Barons FitzWalter.

Preston Marshes is a 43.4-hectare (107-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Canterbury in Kent.This site in the valley of the River Little Stour is dominated by common reed, with areas of willow scrub and pasture. There are many breeding and wintering birds, such as reed buntings and sedge warblers.A public footpath runs along the eastern boundary.
