West Aliquippa, Pennsylvania

USAir Flight 427 was a scheduled flight from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport to Palm Beach International Airport, Florida, with a stopover at Pittsburgh International Airport. On Thursday, September 8, 1994, the Boeing 737 flying this route crashed in Hopewell Township, Pennsylvania while approaching Runway 28R at Pittsburgh, which was USAir's largest hub at the time. After the longest investigation in the history of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), it was determined that the probable cause was that the aircraft's rudder malfunctioned and went hard over in a direction opposite to that commanded by the pilots, causing the plane to enter an aerodynamic stall from which the pilots were unable to recover. All 132 people on board were killed, making the crash the deadliest air disaster in Pennsylvania's history.

The community has disappeared from most contemporary maps, but lives on in the name of Gringo Road and a few business names.

Formerly the location of a large Native American trading center, Aliquippa grew to become a center for steel manufacturing by the early 20th century, similar to other towns in the area. With the closure of most large employers by the 1980s, Aliquippa has since become an economically distressed community.

In the Commonwealth, the median family income was $49,501 and the United States median family income was $49,445, in 2010. The educational attainment levels for the Aliquippa School District population (25 years old and over) were 86.5% high school graduates and 16.3% college graduates.

The Golden Dome is a 38,000-square-foot (3,500 m2), 3,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Monaca, Pennsylvania on the campus of the Community College of Beaver County. On April 22, 1974, the Community College of Beaver County Building and Construction Committee decide to build the Physical Education and Recreation Center, better known as the Dome. It hosts events for the area like high school graduations, home and garden shows, and the largest veteran breakfast in Beaver County. In the past the Dome hosted several music acts from artists like the Smashing Pumpkins, New Kids on the Block, and political events most notably a major campaign speech from then Senator Barack Obama in March 2008. At the ECW pay per view November to Remember 1997, hometown legend The Franchise Shane Douglas won the World Heavyweight title from Bam Bam Bigelow at the venue in front of a record crowd. It was built in 1975 and is one of only eight remaining geodesic dome structures in the United States. It is the home of the CCBC Titans.

Aliquippa Junior/Senior High School is a public high school in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. It is the only high school in the Aliquippa School District. Athletic teams compete as the Aliquippa Quips in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL). In 2009, the middle school building that housed grades 5–8 was renovated to house grades 7–12 and the elementary school building that housed grades K-4 was renovated to house grades K-6. The former high school building, built in 1924, was demolished in 2009.
