Lanercost

Lanercost Priory was founded by Robert de Vaux between 1165 and 1174, the most likely date being 1169, to house Augustinian canons. The priory is situated at the village of Lanercost, Cumbria, England, within sight of Naworth Castle, with which it had close connections. The Lanercost Chronicle, a thirteenth-century history of England and the Wars of Scottish Independence, was compiled by the monks of the priory. It is now open to the public and in the guardianship of English Heritage.

Burtholme refers to any of a civil parish in Cumbria, England, a hamlet within that parish or a family name originally linked to the place. It also appears in Burtholme Beck, which marks a significant point on Hadrian's Wall.

Naworth Castle, also known or recorded in historical documents as "Naward", is a castle in Cumbria, England, near the town of Brampton. It is adjacent to the A69 road from Newcastle upon Tyne to Carlisle, about 2 miles (3.2 km) east of Brampton. It is on the opposite side of the River Irthing to, and just within sight of, Lanercost Priory where the Dacre and Howard families are buried or have their memorials, although some are buried at Carlisle Cathedral. Naworth was the seat of the Barons Dacre and is now that of their cognatic descendants, the Earls of Carlisle, who belong to the prominent Howard family. It is a Grade I listed building and was an impregnable fortress for the Dacres, where they retreated in times of trouble.

Milecastle 53 (Banks Burn) was a milecastle on Hadrian's Wall (grid reference NY56486460).

Naworth is a former railway station, which served the hamlet of Naworth in Cumbria. The station served the Tyne Valley Line between 1871 and 1952.

Banks is a village in Cumbria, England, astride the course of Hadrian's Wall, 3 mile (5 km) NE of the market town of Brampton. The historic Lanercost Priory is just a mile (1.5 km) to the SW. Banks East Turret is a relatively well-preserved turret with adjoining stretches of Hadrian's Wall.

Brampton Town railway station was the terminus of the Brampton Town Branch, in the centre of Brampton, Cumbria, England. It was opened in 1775, to work on the Earl of Carlisle's Waggonway. By 1836, a horse-driven passenger service had been implemented when the track was realigned to meet up with the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway, providing a service to Milton station, now Brampton (Cumbria) station, about a mile out of town.The passenger service ended in 1881, however in 1913 the railway was taken over by the North Eastern Railway (NER), the track was relaid and a steam hauled service to Brampton Junction was introduced. The NER did not run passenger services between 1917 and 1920. After being incorporated into the London and North Eastern Railway it was closed to passengers on 29 October 1923 and for goods on 31 December 1923. The track was lifted shortly afterwards but the course of the line can still be easily traced over most of its length as much of it now forms a public footpath.

Brampton (Cumbria) is a railway station on the Tyne Valley Line, which runs between Newcastle and Carlisle via Hexham. The station, situated 10 miles 62 chains (10.8 mi; 17.3 km) east of Carlisle, serves the hamlet of Milton and the town of Brampton, Cumberland in Cumbria, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains.

King Water is a river in the north of Cumbria, England. The Brampton Angling Association has a long term let from the Earl of Carlisle for fishing rights on a portion of the River Irthing and part of the King Water. Hadrian's Wall crossed the King Water to the east of the village of Walton

Brampton is a market town, civil parish and electoral ward within the City of Carlisle district of Cumbria, England, about 9 miles (14 km) east of Carlisle and 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Hadrian's Wall. Historically part of Cumberland, it is situated off the A69 road which bypasses it. St Martin's Church is famous as the only church designed by the Pre-Raphaelite architect Philip Webb, and contains one of the most exquisite sets of stained glass windows designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones, and executed in the William Morris studio.
