Kent, Jefferson County, Indiana

Republican Township is one of ten townships in Jefferson County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,599 and it contained 639 housing units.Republican Township was created on March 12, 1817 by the Jefferson County Common Pleas Court. It has had the following post offices, which are no longer in operation: Hargan (June 4, 1884 – July 29, 1898); Ramsey's Mills (Dec. 19, 1832-Jan. 14, 1848); Swanville (June 10, 1847-Oct. 23, 1866) and (Jan. 8, 1867-Jan. 15, 1907). There is no active post office in the township. Ramseys Mills Post Office was renamed Kent, which operated from Jan. 14, 1848 until March 26, 1965, when mail service was transferred to Madison. Its active churches include the Kent Baptist, Christian and Methodist churches. Past churches include the Ebenezer Methodist (ca. 1840-?): New Liberty Methodist (ca. 1900-1995/90), Providence Methodist (ca. 1830-?), Sharon Hill Presbyterian (1845-after 1945); White River Baptist (1811-1886/87) and White River Christian (founded as a New Light church in 1817, moved to Kent where the Kent Christian Church is its successor).

Swanville is an unincorporated community in Republican Township, Jefferson County, Indiana. A post office was established at Swanville in 1847, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907.

St. Stephen's African Methodist Episcopal Church is a historic African Methodist Episcopal church located at Hanover, Jefferson County, Indiana. Early records of the church and its founding have been lost, but it is known that the trustees of the church purchased an acre of land in Hanover for $50 in 1892 to build a church. According to oral tradition among the church members, the present building was erected around 1904, using lumber salvaged from the 1834 Graysville Church formerly on Grange Hill Road.The church is a one-story, rectangular wood-frame building with Queen Anne style design elements. It measures approximately 26 feet wide and 40 feet deep. It has a front gable roof and features a central projecting bell tower and entrance.: 5  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Hanover is a town in Hanover Township, Jefferson County, southeast Indiana, along the Ohio River. The population was 3,546 at the 2010 census. Hanover is the home of Hanover College, a small Presbyterian liberal arts college. The tallest waterfall in Indiana, Fremont Falls, is located in Hanover.

Crowe-Garritt House is a historic home located at Hanover, Jefferson County, Indiana. The original section was built about 1824, with later additions and modifications. It is a two-story, rectangular wood-frame vernacular dwelling with a two-story verandah. The house was the residence of John Finley Crowe, founder of Hanover College from 1824 to 1860.: 2–3 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Ira Shimmin Allison (16 March 1895 – 31 May 1990), was an American geologist best known for studying the US state of Oregon's prehistoric lakes and waterways. He is the namesake for Lake Allison, named because Allison became the first person to identify and correlate Willamette silt soil in 1953 with soils at the former lake bed of Lake Lewis in eastern Washington.

The Long College for Women was a liberal arts, Presbyterian women's college associated with Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana between 1947 and 1978.

Hanover College is a private college in Hanover, Indiana, affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). Founded in 1827 by Reverend John Finley Crowe, it is Indiana's oldest private college. The Hanover athletic teams participate in the NCAA Division III as a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Hanover alumni are known as Hanoverians.

Fremont Falls is a waterfall located in Hanover, Indiana, near the Ohio River. At 108 feet (33 m), it is the highest waterfall in Indiana.

Thomas A. Hendricks Library, also known as Hendricks Hall, is a historic library building located on the campus of Hanover College at Hanover Township, Jefferson County, Indiana. It was designed by the architectural firm Patton & Miller and built in 1903. It is a two-story, rectangular, Colonial Revival style brick and limestone building. It measures 48 feet by 75 feet and has a projecting entrance bay with Ionic order stone pilasters. It features a low dome sheathed in copper and Palladian windows. It is named for Hanover College graduate, Indiana governor, and Vice President Thomas A. Hendricks.: 2–3 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
