Sherburn Park

Happyland Park was an amusement park in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Construction started on May 1, 1906, on 13 hectares (32 acres) of land between Aubrey and Dominion streets. Portage Avenue bounded it to the north and the Assiniboine River was to the south. Today this area is part of the Wolseley neighbourhood of Winnipeg. The total cost to construct the park was about $150,000 and were illuminated by 12,000 lights. The main side of the park fronted 90 metres (98 yards) of the south side of Portage Avenue with a high wooden fence sporting the word "Happyland" and advertisements detailing the amusements to be found inside. The park opened to the public on May 23 1906.The main attraction at Happyland Park was the baseball games. The Winnipeg Maroons would play American teams of the Northern League from Duluth, Grand Forks, Fargo, etc. The first game, attended by 4,000 fans, was held on May 24, 1906. It saw the home team lose 7 to 5 to the visiting Duluth team. By 1914 the owners of the Park had sold off a portion of the land for private residential development.The park closed in 1922. Another park of the same name exists today in St. Boniface. In Guy Maddin's My Winnipeg, the signage and other materials are used in a rooftop homeless encampment.

The D Division is the division of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police responsible for federal policing in Manitoba and, at times, northwestern Ontario. Headquartered in Winnipeg, the division is commanded by Assistant Commissioner Scott McMurchy and consists of 1089 police officers and 438 support staff. As one of the 15 divisions of the RCMP, the D Division's federal policing duties include combating organized crime, border integrity, and VIP protection, among others. D Division is also contracted by the Province of Manitoba to act as the provincial police. In that role, the division provides front-line policing to towns and rural areas which have not established their own police services. In addition, some municipalities which are responsible under Manitoba law for their own policing have chosen to contract the RCMP to provide that service. As a result, the division provides front-line policing services to over 500,000 people spread over nearly all of Manitoba's 650,000 square kilometres, including some of Canada's most remote areas.

Wolseley is a neighbourhood located within the West End of Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is named for field marshal Sir Garnet Wolseley, a British Army officer who came to Manitoba in 1870 to suppress the Red River Rebellion.

The Royal Winnipeg Rifles (R Wpg Rif) are a Primary Reserve one-battalion infantry regiment of the Canadian Army. Nicknamed the "Little Black Devils", they are based at Minto Armoury in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Royal Winnipeg Rifles are part of 3rd Canadian Division's 38 Canadian Brigade Group.

The Queens Own Cameron Highlanders Museum is a military museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The museum located at the Minto Armoury is dedicated to Manitoba's famous Scottish regiment, The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada, which was first raised in 1910.

The Minto Armoury is a prominent and historic structure in the West End of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The armoury is currently the home base of The Royal Winnipeg Rifles, The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada, 38 Signal Regiment, and several other reserve units. The building remains an active military structure. It is noted for its smooth integration into the character of the neighbourhood and remains a local landmark, both factors have help to certify the Minto Armoury as a Recognized Federal Heritage Building.

Wellington Crescent is an affluent neighbourhood in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It is known for its stately homes and for a small commercial area along Academy Road. It is in the northern section of the River Heights community area, along the Assiniboine River, which marks the neighbourhood's northern boundary. Its other boundaries are Academy Road to the south, and the train tracks to the west.

Minto was a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1999, and has formally existed since the provincial election of 1999. The riding is located in the centre of the City of Winnipeg. Minto was created primarily from territory from the old St. James riding, with some additional territory from Wellington as well. In many respects, the riding may be regarded as a successor to the St. James riding which existed before 1999. Minto was bordered on the east by Point Douglas, to the north by Wellington, to the south by Wolseley, and to the west by the current St. James riding. The riding's population in 1996 was 20,479. In 1999, the average family income was $37,037, and the unemployment rate was 13.80%. Thirty-seven per cent of the riding's residents are listed as low-income, one of the highest rates in the province. Twenty-two per cent of families in the riding are single-parent. Minto has an immigrant population of 33%, the highest in the province. Sixteen per cent of the riding's residents are Filipino, 7% Portuguese, 3% Chinese and 2% Italian. The aboriginal population in the riding is 14%. Manufacturing accounts for 25% of Minto's industry, with a further 19% in the service sector.

It includes the neighbourhoods of Armstrong's Point, Colony, Daniel McIntyre, Minto, Sargent Park, Spence, St. Matthews, West Broadway, and Wolseley. The area is bordered by Route 62 (Osborne, Memorial, Colony, and Balmoral Streets) on the east, St. James Street on the west, the Assiniboine River on the south, and Notre Dame Avenue on the north.
