Chadwell, Leicestershire

Wycomb is a small hamlet in the district of Melton, which is approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) northeast of Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, and is part of the civil parish of Scalford, which also includes the neighbouring village of Chadwell. Until 1 April 1936 it was in the parish of Wycomb and Chadwell. The settlement name (originally recorded as Wykeham) means 'wīc-hām (Old English) A settlement associated with a Roman 'vicus'. Wycomb is half a mile west of Chadwell, and Wycomb has traditionally used Chadwell's church. The Church of St Mary is a Grade II* Listed building.

Melton and Belvoir Rural District was a rural district of Leicestershire, England, from 1935 to 1974. It was formed on 1 April 1935 from the merger of the Melton Mowbray Rural District and the Belvoir Rural District, with part going to Melton Mowbray urban district also. On 1 April 1936 there was a significant reorganisation of parishes. In 1955 the council bought Warwick Lodge on Dalby Road in Melton Mowbray to serve as its headquarters. The building had been built in 1908 as a large house. 21 acres of Broughton and Old Dalby were transferred to Upper Broughton in Bingham Rural District, Nottinghamshire, on 1 April 1965. In 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972 the district merged with the Melton urban district to form the new non-metropolitan district of Melton.

Goadby Hall is a privately owned 17th-century country house located in Towns Lane, Goadby Marwood, Leicestershire. It is an historical Grade II* listed building. The house was substantially renovated in 1750, when a new south front was built in the Palladian style. Five recessed central bays extend to two storeys with attics, the central three bays of which are pedimented with Doric order columns. Two flanking wings of two storeys have two bays each. The plainer north front has three storeys and seven bays. A large service wing adjoins to the west. A nearby stable block has Grade II listed status. The 180-acre (0.7 km2) estate was a subsidiary holding of the Duke of Rutland, and the property was often the residence of junior members of the Manners family. Lady Elizabeth Manners, daughter of the 4th Duke, married Richard Norman MP in 1798. Their son, George Norman, inherited the estate and hall from his cousin, the 7th Duke.

Scalford is a village and civil parish in the Melton borough of Leicestershire, England. It lies 4 miles (6.4 km) to the north of Melton Mowbray at the southern end of the Vale of Belvoir. In the 2011 census the parish (including Chadwell and Wycomb) had a population of 608.

Waltham on the Wolds railway station was a railway station at the end of the Waltham Branch, serving the village of Waltham on the Wolds, Leicestershire. The Waltham Branch was built by the Great Northern Railway from the Great Northern and London and North Western Joint Railway at Scalford to exploit ironstone deposits in the area. The station opened in April 1883 but never had a regular passenger train service, which was confirmed in the edition of The Railway Magazine published in May 1932. Instead, it was used only for specials bringing visitors to Waltham Fair or to race meetings at Croxton Park until at least 1907 or 1906. The Eaton Branch Railway began at "Eaton Junction" immediately south of the station. It served the ironstone quarries that surrounded the village of Eaton. From 1916 to 1918, the line was used for military specials serving Harrowby Army Camp, after which it was used for freight or occasional enthusiast specials, until completely closed in 1964.

Twinlakes is a theme park located 0.5 miles (0.75 kilometres) north-east of Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, England. The park was opened in September 2003, eleven months after the site was purchased. The 100-acre (400,000 m2) park is family friendly with a large percentage of its rides being for young children, in comparison with other theme parks such as Alton Towers and Drayton Manor. Furthermore, groups of visitors with no children are not allowed access to the park. Like many similar venues, Twinlakes is divided into geographic 'zones' to help visitors find their way around. However, unlike other places there seems to be little similarity between the individual attractions within each zone. Attractions at present include: small zoo, falconry centre, roller coaster, log flume, assault course, toboggan slide, go karts, "Excalibur" chair swing, "Icarus" sky flyer, Teacups, "Joust" horse ride, dragon themed toddler ride, "American Dream" model village, bumper boats, a boating lake and many more. A miniature railway with an oriental style transports visitors between various parts of the park. Twinlakes is open every day of the year except for 25 and 26 December and 1 January. Group discounts and annual passes (which can also be used at the parks' sister venue Wheelgate Adventure Park near Mansfield) are available. The park’s advertising slogan is "Fantastic all weather family fun".

Eastwell is a village and ecclesiastical parish in Leicestershire, England. The village's name means 'eastern spring/stream'. For the purposes of administration Eastwell is part of the civil parish of Eaton that, in turn, forms part of the borough of Melton. Eastwell lost its own civil parish status on 1 April 1936. Its population in 1931 was recorded as 152; the 1851 census had recorded 158 so the village had not suffered the rural depopulation seen elsewhere. There are 67 occupied dwellings in 2021 within the main village of Eastwell. Further back in time:Eastwell is in the Hundred of Framland, 6 miles north by East from Melton; contains 1291 acres, 109 inhabitants and 24 acres. The sole proprietor is the duke of Rutland, who has a seat called Eastwell Hall. Lord Huntingtower is lord of the manor. The king is patron of the rectory, which has a glebe of 36 acres. The rector receives 85 pounds yearly in lieu of tithes. Eastwell Church (St Michael) is built of ironstone. It dates mostly from the thirteenth century. From the early 14th century to the mid 16th century, Eastwell was the seat of one branch of the Brabazon family. The Hall is a Grade II* listed building It dates from 1634 but has windows and a front door altered in the nineteenth century. Eastwell Village Hall was re-built and opened in 2015 and hosts a variety of community events including a weekly community pub, exercise classes and live music events.

Waltham on the Wolds is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Waltham on the Wolds and Thorpe Arnold, in the Melton borough of Leicestershire, England. It lies about 5 miles (8.0 km) north-east of Melton Mowbray and 11 miles (17.7 km) south-west of Grantham on the main A607 road. In 1931 the parish had a population of 510. The population of Waltham on the Wolds and Thorpe Arnold was 967 in 2011.

Scalford railway station was a railway station serving the village of Scalford, Leicestershire on the Great Northern and London and North Western Joint Railway. It opened in 1879 and closed to regular traffic in 1953. It was the junction for a branch line to Waltham on the Wolds which was built to exploit ironstone deposits in the area.

The Waltham transmitting station is a broadcasting and telecommunications facility at Waltham-on-the-Wolds, 5 miles (8 km) north-east of Melton Mowbray. It sits inside the Waltham civil parish near Stonesby, in the district of Melton, Leicestershire, UK. It has a 315 metres (1,033 ft) guyed steel tubular mast. The main structure height to the top of the steelwork is 290.8 metres (954 ft), with the UHF television antennas contained within a GRP shroud mounted on top.

Melton is the least populous district of its type and the fourth least populous district in England overall. The neighbouring districts are Harborough, Charnwood, Rushcliffe, Newark and Sherwood, South Kesteven and Rutland.

Thorpe Arnold is a farming village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Waltham on the Wolds and Thorpe Arnold in the district of Melton, which is approximately 1.2 miles (1.9 km) northeast of Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, England. In 1931 the parish had a population of 128. On 1 April 1936 the parish was abolished and to form Waltham.
