Old Bridge Township is a township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, located in the Raritan Valley region and within the New York metropolitan area. As of the 2020 United States census, the township was the state's 21st-most-populous municipality, with a population of 66,876, an increase of 1,501 (+2.3%) from the 2010 census count of 65,375, which in turn reflected an increase of 4,919 (+8.1%) from the 60,456 counted in the 2000 census. As of the 2010 Census, the township was ranked 18th in the state by population, after being the state's 21st most-populous municipality in 2000. Old Bridge is a bedroom suburb of New York City located across the Raritan Bay from Staten Island, and it is about 25 miles (40 km) from Manhattan, and about 30 miles (48 km) south of Newark.What is now Old Bridge Township was originally incorporated as Madison Township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 2, 1869, from portions of South Amboy Township (now City of South Amboy). In a referendum held on November 5, 1975, voters approved changing the township's name to Old Bridge Township by a margin of 7,150 votes to 4,888. The township's name was changed to avoid confusion with the borough of Madison in Morris County. After the township was established, the area was made up primarily of farms and the population grew slowly. In 1880, the population was 1,662 and in 1950 it had reached 7,365. Over the next decade, a building boom started and farms gave way to developments, and the population grew to 22,772 by 1960. The 1980 census cited 51,406 people. The township saw major changes with the extension of Route 18 to the shore. The township was named as a contender for the title of one of the best places to live in the United States by Money magazine in both 2005 and 2007.In 2016, SafeWise named Old Bridge Township as the sixth-safest city in America to raise a child; the township was the second-highest ranked of the 12 communities in New Jersey included on the list.

Browntown is an unincorporated community located within Old Bridge Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The area is served as United States Postal Service ZIP Code 08857. As of the 2000 United States Census, the population for ZIP Code Tabulation Area 08857 was 36,142.

Birch Hill Nightclub was a music venue and nightclub in Old Bridge Township, New Jersey. The venue ran into trouble in 2000 after an accidental drowning and drug raids, along with a loss of their liquor license. Birch Hill was sold in 2003 and is now a housing development. Many big-name bands played the venue, including Gov't Mule, Dio, Scorpions, Hoobastank, Blue Öyster Cult, Cheap Trick, UFO, Iron Maiden, Rainbow, Eve 6, Toadies, Sudzert and Slayer.

Old Bridge is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Old Bridge Township, in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP's population was 23,753. Despite the similarity in the name of the CDP and the township, the two are not one and the same, as had been the case for most paired Township / CDP combinations prior to the 2010 Census, in which the CDP was coextensive with a township of the same name.

Cottrell Corners is an unincorporated community located within Old Bridge Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Located at the corner of Old Bridge-Matawan Road (County Route 516) and Cottrell Road, the area is named for the Cottrell Family who owned an apple farm at the crossroads since before the United States was founded. Though the last parcel of the farmland had originally been sold to a developer in 2002, the Middlesex County Freeholder Board purchased the property and intends to preserve it. In addition to the farm, the area contains stores, a townhouse development, and is the seat of the Old Bridge municipal offices and library.

Raritan Bay Medical Center (RBMC) consists of two general acute care hospitals, located within the heart of the Raritan Valley region, servicing the Raritan Bayshore communities in Middlesex and Monmouth counties. The hospitals are located in Old Bridge (113 bed) and Perth Amboy (365 bed); both are non-profit, academic medical centers servicing the Central Jersey area. RBMC is a part of the Hackensack Meridian Healthcare network.

The CPS Madison Industries Superfund Site is located in Old Bridge, New Jersey. Since 1967, site operators had improperly handed high-risk substances by expelling them into public sewer systems throughout the township. Established in 1962, CPS Madison Industries, located in Middlesex County, New Jersey, has remained a large competitor in the copper and zinc industry producing compounds primarily for food additives, fertilizers, and pharmaceuticals. CPS Madison Industries was declared to be a superfund site as of September 8, 1983, due to its improper handlings of Volatile Organic Compounds, and has since been undergoing groundwater pump and treatment systems since 1991.

The Runyon Watershed is a reservoir system located in Old Bridge Township, New Jersey just south of Sayreville. It is operated by the Middlesex Water Company. The 1,100 acres (450 ha) watershed area was first established in the late 1800 when it was purchased by the city of Perth Amboy, which developed a reservoir and waterworks in the 1920s, and turned over management to the company in 2003. The area is protected, with more than 500 acres of the tract are wetlands that are from development by the state's 1990 Watershed Moratorium Act A weather station in Runyon recorded a high temperature of 110 °F (43 °C) on July 10, 1936, setting the record for the hottest temperature ever recorded in New Jersey.

The Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh is an Irish-American fraternal organization founded in 1964 by Jack Dunphy and Harry Knox, initially to get an Irish group from Old Bridge, New Jersey to march in the Newark, New Jersey Saint Patrick's Day parade.

Madison Central High School is a defunct public high school in Old Bridge Township, in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States, that opened in 1962 and closed in June 1994. Increasing numbers of students from Old Bridge attending Matawan High School led to double sessions in the 1960-61 school year, with the prospect of triple sessions being necessary as the growing number of students being sent from Old Bridge could swell enrollment even further beyond capacity. The school opened in 1962 as Madison Township High School, serving freshman and sophomores, while those in their junior and senior years continued to attend East Brunswick High School, Keyport High School, Matawan High School or South River High School as part of sending/receiving relationships. Cedar Ridge High School opened in 1968 to help alleviate overcrowding at Madison Central. Old Bridge High School opened in September 1994 and was formed from the merger of Cedar Ridge and Madison Central, which were the two existing high schools in Old Bridge Township.The school had an enrollment of 1,210 in the 1990-1991 school year, slightly larger than the student body at Cedar Ridge.
