Highwood station

Highwood is a North Shore suburb of Chicago in Moraine Township, Lake County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 5,074. It is known for its entertainment, restaurants, bars, and festivals.

The Evert House is a historic house at 2687 Logan Street in Highland Park, Illinois. The Highland Park Building Company built the house for Rev. W. W. Evert in 1872. The company, which built houses that buyers chose from pattern books, was responsible for many of Highland Park's early homes and community buildings. The house has a Second Empire design, a relatively uncommon style in the city. It features a mansard roof with two dormers and bracketed eaves.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 29, 1982.

Fort Sheridan is a residential neighborhood within the cities of Lake Forest, Highwood, and Highland Park in Lake County, Illinois, United States. It was originally established as Fort Sheridan, an Army post named after Civil War cavalry general Philip Sheridan, to honor his services to Chicago.

The Philip H. Sheridan Reserve Center is the former Fort Sheridan now in Lake Forest, Highwood, and Highland Park in Lake County, Illinois, United States. It was originally established as a United States Army Post named after Civil War Cavalry General Philip Sheridan, to honor his services to Chicago. When the main fort was officially closed by the Army on May 3, 1993, the majority of the property was sold by the Department of Defense to commercial land developers. Most of the original housing structures were then refurbished and resold as a residential community. Other buildings were given to cultural organizations like Midwest Young Artists, the largest youth music program in the Midwest. Approximately 90 acres (36 ha) of the southern end of the original post were retained by the Army; there the Army now operates the Sheridan Reserve Center complex. In celebration of the 2018 Illinois Bicentennial, Fort Sheridan was selected as one of the Illinois 200 Great Places by the American Institute of Architects Illinois component (AIA Illinois).

The Samuel Holmes House is a historic house at 2693 Sheridan Road in Highland Park, Illinois. Built in 1926, the Shingle style house was designed by architect Robert Seyfarth. The house is one of several Seyfarth-designed buildings in Highland Park and a rare example of the Shingle style in the city. The house's design includes an asymmetrical form, a gable roof with inset dormers, and a cedar shake sided exterior. Noted landscape architect Jens Jensen designed the house's grounds.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 29, 1982.

Highland Park High School (HPHS) is a public four-year high school located in Highland Park, Illinois, a North Shore suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of Township High School District 113. From 1900 to 1904, the school was known as Deerfield High School. The high school served both Deerfield (renamed Moraine in 1998) and Shields townships from 1904 until 1936 and was Deerfield-Shields High School. The building of Lake Forest High School in 1936 provided a school to serve Shields Township students. This led to the return of the name Highland Park High School. A new, separate Deerfield High School opened 20 years later to serve the growing population.

Fort Sheridan Station is one of two stations on Metra's Union Pacific North Line located in the Fort Sheridan neighborhood in Highwood, Illinois. The station is officially located at 461 West Old Elm Road, and is 25.7 miles (41.4 km) away from Ogilvie Transportation Center, the southern terminus of the Union Pacific North Line. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Fort Sheridan is located in zone 4. As of 2018, Fort Sheridan is the 156th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 259 weekday boardings.As of April 25, 2022, Fort Sheridan is served by 46 trains (23 in each direction) on weekdays, by 22 trains (11 in each direction) on Saturdays, and by 16 trains (eight in each direction) on Sundays and holidays. Parking at Fort Sheridan Station is maintained by the City of Highwood, and is available on both sides of the tracks. Street-side parking is available on the west side of the tracks along Western Avenue and Hyacinth Place south of West Old Elm Road, and on the east side of the tracks near both corners of West Old Elm and Sheridan roads.

The Obee House was a historic house at 1642 Green Bay Road in Highland Park, Illinois. The house was built circa 1874 for the Obee family, who owned the house for a century following its construction. The house had a vernacular clapboard form with Victorian elements. Its decorative features included a bay window and hooded window moldings. Its interior featured a wooden staircase, detailed baseboards, and pine flooring.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 29, 1982. It was demolished in the late 1990s and replaced by a condominium development and removed from the National Register in 2020.

Music Arts School was a community music school in Highland Park, Illinois from 1952 to 2007. It offered private lessons on guitar, bass guitar, piano, keyboard, Drums, world percussion, violin, viola, cello, saxophone, clarinet, flute, recorder, and voice. It also had a curriculum of group classes including programs for both adults and young children. Music Arts School began as a private music school in 1952. Pianist Mortimer Scheff founded the school and continued to head it until retiring in 2005. From 2001 to 2007, the school functioned as a non-profit. In September 2007, Music Arts School merged with the Music Institute of Chicago. Now known as the Highland Park Campus of MIC, the school continues to serve the North Shore of Chicago with individual music lessons and group music classes. In the years since becoming a non-profit organization, the school has grown upon its base of individual instruction by creating a curriculum of group music classes. Current subjects include Suzuki method, Adult Group Guitar, Musikgarten (early childhood music education), and Musicianship (music theory and history).
