Strumpshaw Fen RSPB reserve

The Strumpshaw Hall Steam Museum in Strumpshaw, Norfolk, is home to a collection of traction engines, steam rollers, a showman's engine and a steam wagon which are run on special occasions and on the last Sunday of each month from April to October.The Hall itself is Grade II listed, and in the grounds are a touring caravan site. Neighbouring the hall and farm estate is the Strumpshaw Fen RSPB reserve.

Yare Broads and Marshes is a 744.5-hectare (1,840-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Norwich in Norfolk, England. Part of the site, is a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade I and most of it is in the Mid-Yare National Nature Reserve. It is part of the Broadland Ramsar site and Special Protection Area, and The Broads Special Area of Conservation. Two ares are Royal Society for the Protection of Birds nature reserves, Strumpshaw Fen and Surlingham Church Marsh.This is a nationally important wetland site, with grazing marsh, open water, fen, carr woodland and peat. There are many nationally rare plants and many birds including nationally important wintering flocks of wigeon.

Buckenham railway station is on the Wherry Lines in the east of England, serving the village of Buckenham in Norfolk. It is 7 miles 62 chains (12.5 km) down the line from Norwich on the routes to Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth and is situated between Brundall and Cantley. Its three-letter station code is BUC. The station was opened in 1844. Today it is managed by Greater Anglia. According to usage estimates, Buckenham is one of the least-used stations in the country, registering just 216 passenger entries/exits in 2018/19. A limited number of services stop at the station. The station buildings are currently used as a recording studio.RSPB Buckenham Marshes is located next to the station, with RSPB Strumpshaw Fen a short walk away. Strumpshaw Hall Steam Museum is also located in the area.

Buckenham Marshes RSPB reserve is a nature reserve located on the northern bank of the River Yare in the English county of Norfolk. The reserve is located around 8 miles (13 km) south-east of Norwich near the village of Buckenham. The site, which is in The Broads, is managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. The reserve consists of areas of reedbeds, grazing marsh and wet woodlands featuring species such as alder and willow. Areas of open water provide additional habitats. Key bird species include bean geese which over-winter at the site, the only location they regularly do so in England, lapwing and wigeon. An established rookery borders the site with up to 80,000 rooks roosting at the site, the largest rookery in Britain.The RSPB Strumpshaw Fen reserve borders Buckenham Marshes to the west. Both reserves lie within the Mid-Yare National Nature Reserve and form part of the Yare Broads and Marshes Site of Special Scientific Interest. The reserve is adjacent to Buckenham railway station with the Wherry Lines railway line marking its northern boundary.

Strumpshaw is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It is located on the northern bank of the River Yare around 6 miles (9.7 km) south-east of Norwich. The parish covers an area of 11.69 km2 (4.51 sq mi) and had a population of 602 in 245 households at the 2001 census, increasing to a population of 634 in 261 households at the 2011 Census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of Broadland. The villages name means 'stump wood'. The village lies a little distance from the river, on the slopes of Strumpshaw Hill, the highest area of land in the Norfolk Broads. Because of its elevation, Strumpshaw hosted, from the late 1790s through to the mid-1810s, a repeater station in the shutter telegraph chain linking the Admiralty in London with Great Yarmouth. The Wherry Lines railway line running between Norwich and Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft runs through the parish. Trains call at Buckenham railway station at weekends only. The small villages of Buckenham and Hassingham, formally both parishes in their own right, lie within the civil parish of Strumpshaw.

Rockland Broad is an area of open water, known as a broad, located north east of the village of Rockland St. Mary in the English county of Norfolk. The broad is in the Broads protected area. It comprises an area of approximately 50 acres (200,000 m2) and is surrounded by marshland and tall reed beds. It is linked to the River Yare by two dykes, the Short Dyke and the Fleet Dyke. From the village of Rockland St. Mary the broad can be reached via Rockland Staithe, opposite 'The New Inn'. The main navigable channel links the staithe to the Short Dyke. A footpath also leads from the staithe to an RSPB Bird hide which overlooks both the broad and the adjacent Rockland Marshes. Some parts of the broad are badly silted. In the western part of the broad, known as The Slaughters, lie two Norfolk wherry wrecks. There is also a channel on the western side which links to Wheatfen Broad. The broad has good pike fishing and in 1912 it is said that a fish weighing thirty one and a half pounds was caught. There are also bream, roach, tench and perch.

Brundall signal box is a Grade II listed former Great Eastern Railway signal box on Brundall railway station in Norfolk, England. Located on the Wherry Lines linking Norwich with Lowestoft, it remains a junction point with the line to Great Yarmouth via Acle diverging via Reedham just to the east of the station.[1] Served by Greater Anglia, the station is unstaffed. In July 2013, it was one of 26 "highly distinctive" signal boxes listed by Ed Davey, Minister for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, in a joint initiative by English Heritage and Network Rail to preserve and provide a window into how railways were operated in the past. Signalling control at the site was transferred to Colchester in February 2020, making the structure obsolete. The signal box is scheduled to be preserved on the Mid-Norfolk Railway.

Brundall railway station is on the Wherry Lines in the east of England, serving the village of Brundall, Norfolk. It is 5 miles 60 chains (9.3 km) down the line from Norwich on the route to Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft. Its three-letter station code is BDA.The station was opened in 1844. Today it is managed by Greater Anglia.[1]

Mid-Yare NNR is a national nature reserve in Norfolk, east of Norwich, established by English Nature and managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). The reserve is made up of four RSPB reserves: Strumpshaw Fen, Buckenham Marshes and Cantley Marshes on the north bank of the Yare, and Surlingham Church Marsh on the south bank.The reserve consists of floodplains along the River Yare, and the total area is 7.8 km2. It centres on the Strumpshaw area. The alder carr and willow carr support the swallowtail butterfly and the Norfolk hawker dragonfly Aeshna isosceles, as well as marsh harriers, bearded tits and Cetti's warblers. The wet grasslands hold internationally important numbers of Eurasian wigeon, nationally important numbers of European white-fronted goose, and Britain's largest flock of bean goose, as well as northern lapwing, common redshank and common snipe. The RSPB controls the water levels, maintains the dykes, cuts the reed beds and keeps disturbance of the wildlife to a minimum.

St Nicholas Church is a redundant Anglican church in the village of Buckenham, Norfolk, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. The church stands among fields to the north of the River Yare.

Buckenham is a small village in the civil parish of Strumpshaw, in the Broadland district, in the county of Norfolk, England, situated on the northern bank of the River Yare around 7 miles (11 km) south-east of Norwich. In 1931 the parish had a population of 128.

Claxton Castle in the village of Claxton, Norfolk, is a ruined brick castle some 13 km southeast of Norwich.
