Clinton station (Connecticut)

Clinton is a census-designated place (CDP) comprising the primary village in the town of Clinton, Middlesex County, Connecticut, United States. It is in the southwest corner of the town, bordered to the west, across the Hammonasset River, by the town of Madison in New Haven County, to the north by Interstate 95, and to the south by Clinton Harbor, an inlet of Long Island Sound. As of the 2020 census, the CDP had a population of 3,441, out of 13,185 in the entire town of Clinton. The Clinton Village Historic District occupies 120 acres (0.49 km2) at the center of the village.

The Clinton Village Historic District encompasses the historic portion of the town center of Clinton, Connecticut. It is roughly linear and extends along East Main Street (United States Route 1) from the Indian River in the west to Old Post Road (Connecticut Route 145) in the east. The area represents a well-preserved mid-19th century town center, with architecture dating from the late 17th to mid-20th centuries. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Cedar Island Marina, located on Long Island Sound in Clinton, Connecticut, United States, is a boatyard with 400 slips. It was operating at 94 percent of capacity in 1995, with many transient visitors filling slips vacated when home-port vessels were away. Three boats are year-round "live-aboards". Boat sizes range from less than 21 feet (6.4 m) to 120 feet (37 m), with 76 percent between 21 and 35 feet (11 m) and 19 percent longer than that; 35 percent are sailboats. In addition to slips, the marina has retail services—a ship's store carrying groceries, ice, bait and tackle, a used-boat brokerage, a fuel dock and a pumpout. Launching and haul-out are available with a 30-ton travel lift and a "giraffe" crane for indoor and outdoor winter boat storage. Repair services include fiberglass, hull and engine repair; painting; sail-rigging; sail-making; welding and metal fabrication; and boat-bottom cleaning. Within a two-mile radius there are eight other marinas and boatyards, with an estimated total boat population of 2,000. The main boating season begins in May and ends in October. Cedar Island Marina was bought by the Shapiro family in 1974, and converted from a fuel terminal built in 1964. Jeffrey Shapiro is also a general partner in the Clinton Harbor Boat Show each July.

The Hammonasset people were a historical Indigenous people of the Northeastern Woodlands whose territory was along the west bank of the Connecticut River to the Hammonasset River in Connecticut.

The Hammonasset River is formed about 4 miles (6.4 km) southeast of Durham, Connecticut along a gully on the north end of Bunker Hill at about a half mile northeast of the junction of Route 148 and Bunker Hill Road. The river travels for 21.0 miles (33.8 km) to Clinton Harbor on Long Island Sound just east of Hammonasset Beach State Park. A popular paddling route runs for about 10 miles (16 km) starting along Summer Hill Road about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) south on Route 79 from North Madison, Connecticut. This is a scenic river run with mostly flat and quickwater, but with a few Class I-II whitewater areas. The Hammonasset were a tribe of Algonquian Native Americans who had their "digging grounds" in this part of Connecticut, from the west bank of the Connecticut River to the Hammonasset River along the coast. The act of the Connecticut General Court, May 10, 1666, that established New London County mentioned as the county's western bounds "Homonoscet Plantation", which was settled by the English in 1663, now Killingworth. The name was also spelled "Homonoscitt" in some records.

Griswold Airport (IATA: MPE, FAA LID: N04) was a public airport located three nautical miles (6 km) east of the central business district of Madison, a town in New Haven County, Connecticut, United States. It was privately owned by Griswold Airport, Inc. The airport has been closed since the beginning of 2007.

The William Stevens House is a historic house at 131 Cow Hill Road in Clinton, Connecticut. Built near the start of the 18th century, it is one of Clinton's oldest surviving buildings, which is especially noted for its unusual floorplan. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Hammonasset Beach State Park is a public recreation area occupying two miles of beach front on Long Island Sound in the town of Madison, Connecticut. It is the state's largest shoreline park and one of the most popular attractions in the state, drawing an estimated one million visitors annually. The state park offers beach activities, large campground, and nature center. It is managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The State Park Supply Yard is a historic maintenance facility at 51 Mill Road in Madison, Connecticut. The facility buildings were built in 1933-35 by crews of the Civilian Conservation Corps, and remain a well-preserved example of the Corps' work. Still used by the state, the facility was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
