River Wensum

Norwich Rowing Club is a rowing club on the River Yare based at Whitlingham Boathouses, Whitlingham Lane, Trowse, Norwich and is affiliated to British Rowing.

The Norwich power stations were a sequence of electricity generating stations that provided electric power to the City of Norwich and the wider area between 1893 and 1986. The first station in Duke Street began operating in 1893, a new power station at Thorpe was in service from 1926 to 1967, this was supplemented with a 'high pressure' station, 1937–1975, and finally a gas turbine station operated from 1964–1986.

Norwich Station Carriage Servicing Depot is a stabling point located in Norwich, Norfolk, England. The depot is situated on the Great Eastern Main Line and is near Norwich Station. The depot code is NR.

Trowse Bridge is a single-track railway bridge which carries the Great Eastern Main Line over the River Wensum just outside Norwich in England at grid reference TG245076. The bridge was originally built in 1845 by George Parker Bidder, was rebuilt in 1905 and again in 1987. Like many swing bridges, the structure first lifts on hydraulic jacks before swinging open to allow the passage of water traffic. The bridge has frequently caused problems with navigation on the river due to its unreliability, leaving it unable to open.It is notable for being the only swing bridge in the United Kingdom to carry an overhead electrified railway track (25 kV 50 Hz). Other examples can be found along the Northeast Corridor in the United States; see for instance Portal Bridge, and the Galata Bridge over the Golden Horn in Istanbul. The power supply to trains is provided by an overhead conductor rail instead of a wire, and there are short lengths of overhead conductor rail either side of the bridge on the fixed approaches. There is a 40 mph (64 km/h) speed limit over the bridge in both directions as trains are about to arrive at, or have just departed from, Norwich Station. The bridge is also the home of Trowse Signal Box, which controls most of the Bittern Line from Whitlingham Junction to Sheringham. The line was resignalled in 2000, leading to the closure of a number of mechanical signal boxes with control moving to Trowse. The resignalling saw the end of one of the few remaining sections of single track main line controlled by tokens.

Lion Wood is a 8.9-hectare (22-acre) Local Nature Reserve in Norwich in Norfolk. It is owned and managed by Norwich City Council.Around a third of this wood is believed to be ancient. The dominant trees are oak and sycamore, and there is a variety of woodland birds such as blackcaps and green and greater spotted woodpeckers.The wood is open to the public.

Thorpe Hamlet is a suburb of Norwich, to the east of the city centre, in the Norwich District, in the English county of Norfolk. It was constituted a separate ecclesiastical parish March 9, 1852, from the civil parish of Old Thorpe, and in 1912, was in the rural deanery of Blofield. The population of the Thorpe Hamlet ward in Norwich was 10,557 at the 2011 Census.The Church of St. Matthew in Thorpe Hamlet, was erected in 1851 upon land given by the Dean and Chapter of Norwich, on the slope of a hill close by the River Wensum. Until 1852 it was part of the Dean and Chapter of Norwich.

Trowse (pronounced by those from Norwich and by elderly residents of the village), also called Trowse with Newton, is a village in South Norfolk which lies about 1+1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) south-east of Norwich city centre on the banks of the River Yare. It covers an area of 4.49 km2 (1.73 sq mi) and had a population of 479 in 233 households at the 2001 census, the population increasing to 862 in 374 households at the 2011 Census. There are approved plans to build a further 770 houses on the outskirts of the village, at White Horse Lane and the Deal Ground sites.

Rosary Cemetery was the first non-denominational burial ground in the United Kingdom. Its entrance lies on Rosary Road in Norwich, Norfolk.

Trowse was a station on the Great Eastern Main Line just south of Norwich. It was opened around the same time as Norwich Thorpe, and was intended to provide a short commute from the outer suburbs of Norwich. The bill for the Norwich & Brandon Railway (N&BR) received Royal Assent on 10 May 1844. Work started on the line in 1844 and the line and its stations were opened on 30 July 1845. Trowse station opened with the line and was situated west of Hethersett station. The line temporarily terminated at Trowse. The link into Norwich was delayed due to the need to build a bridge over the River Wensum that kept the river navigable. One month before the N&BR opened a Bill authorising the amalgamation of the Yarmouth & Norwich Railway with the N&BR came into effect and so Trowse station became a Norfolk Railway asset. On 15 December 1845 a swing bridge over the River Wensum was opened so Trowse ceased to be a terminus and the line from Brandon entered Norwich Station five months after the original line had opened. The Norfolk Railway also opened a line from Trowse towards Yarmouth so freight trains could avoid Norwich Station.Trowse closed and re-opened several times before closing permanently in 1939. It was briefly re-opened in March 1986 when Norwich was closed for electrification works and it served as the line's northern terminus. It closed again when the works finished.It is still largely in place, and could be re-opened should it ever be desired. Its close proximity to Norwich station makes this unlikely at present, though discussions regarding a possible re-opening have taken place.

Carrow Abbey is a former Benedictine priory in Bracondale, southeast Norwich, England. The village on the site used to be called Carrow (there are many alternative spellings) and gives its name to Carrow Road, the football ground of Norwich F.C., located just metres to the north. Granted by charter of King Stephen, the abbey was founded ca. 1146, and became a Grade I listed building in 1954.

Carrow Works is a former factory site in Norwich previously owned by condiment manufacturer Colman's. The site covers 40 acres, and several of the buildings within its bounds are Grade II listed, as well as the Grade I listed Carrow Abbey. In production for 165 years, the site has been referred to as "historic" due to its impact on the industry and character of Norwich.
