Barasat

North 24 Parganas (abv. 24 PGS (N)) or sometimes North Twenty Four Parganas is a district in southern West Bengal, of eastern India. North 24 Parganas extends in the tropical zone from latitude 22° 11′ 6″ north to 23° 15′ 2″ north and from longitude 88º20' east to 89º5' east. Barasat is the district headquarters of North 24 Parganas. North 24 Parganas is West Bengal's most populous district and also (since 2014) the most populated district in the whole of India. It is the tenth-largest district in the State by area.

Barasat Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 543 parliamentary constituencies in India. The constituency centres on Barasat in West Bengal. All the seven assembly segments of No. 17 Barasat Lok Sabha constituency are in North 24 Parganas district.

Barasat Sadar subdivision is an administrative subdivision of the North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. After transferring Rajarhat-Gopalpur Municipality and Rajarhat (Community development block) to Bidhannagar subdivision, Barasat Sadar subdivision's total area becomes 894.61 sq km (345.41 sq mi), population becomes 2,196,874 (2011 Census) and density becomes 2,500/sq km (6,400/sq mi).

The Barasat District Sports Stadium, also known as Vidyasagar Krirangan, is an association football stadium located in Barasat, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. It is used mostly for Calcutta Football League matches. It is also used for several district-level, state-level and sometimes national level tournaments. The stadium currently holds around 15,000 spectators, has four floodlight towers, air conditioned function and changing rooms. The artificial turf at the stadium has achieved a two-star rating from FIFA. Since the 2014–15 season, the stadium has hosted the home matches of Mohun Bagan A.C. and East Bengal in the I-League.

Barasat Government College (BGC) is a state Government-owned college in Barasat, North 24 Parganas in the Indian state of West Bengal. The college was established in 1950 and is affiliated with the West Bengal State University and run by the Government of West Bengal. It was formerly affiliated with the University of Calcutta. It is a NAAC accredited with "A" grade & DST-FST sponsored college.The college has two "shifts"- Morning and Day. Morning section accommodates the Undergraduate general courses in Arts and Science, and the Day section is for Honours Undergraduates as well as Postgraduates in Botany (which was established in 2003), Zoology, Physics, Chemistry, Bengali.

Barasat Junction is a Kolkata Suburban Railway station in Barasat. It is one of the major suburban railway stations in North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, India. Generally, people commuting daily use this station for travelling to Kolkata's Central Business District or other towns, with the busiest times at the station being the morning and evening peak periods. This station provides the facility of separate rest rooms for both male & female passengers. Barasat Junction Railway station consists of 6 permanent platforms (Platform no: 1–6).

Barasat Peary Charan Sarkar Government High School in Barasat (a suburb of Kolkata in the state of West Bengal, India) is a boys school. The school was established in 1846 by the efforts of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and Peary Charan Sarkar, and others. The original and most popular name of the school was Barasat Government High School.

Hridaypur railway station is a Kolkata Suburban Railway station in Hridaypur. It serves the Barasat's areas of Dakbunglow, Rathtala, Purbachal, Shishirkunja, Udayrajpur and Chandigarh in the North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, India. It is under the jurisdiction of Eastern Railway.
