St Faith under St Paul's

St Gregory's by St Paul's was a parish church in the Castle Baynard ward of the City of London, built against the south-west tower of St Paul's Cathedral. It was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666 and not replaced.

Richard Carr, (1651 – 1706) was an English physician. He proceeded MA at Magdalene College, Cambridge in 1674; was master of Saffron Walden grammar school from 1676–83; studied medicine at Leyden from 1683–6; proceeded MD at Cambridge in 1686; and practised medicine in London. He published medical essays.

Cordwainers' Hall was the livery hall of the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers, the City of London livery company for Cordwainers (workers in fine leather) from 1316 until its destruction in 1941.The hall stood in St. Paul's Churchyard, facing Cannon Street. Five successive halls were built on the site, the last three were rebuilt in 1670, 1788, and 1910. A plaque marks the site. The 1788 hall was built by Sylvanus Hall, with the front of the hall decorated in stone by Robert Adam. The front of the hall featured a stone medallion of a "country girl spinning with a distaff...and of the thread of cordwainers or shoemakers." The arms of the Cordwainers company was in the pediments of the building.The hall was destroyed during World War II in the London blitz, on 10–11 May 1941.

Bracken House is a building at 1 Friday Street and 10 Cannon Street in the City of London, occupied by the Financial Times newspaper until the 1980s, and again beginning May 2019. A late example of modern classicism, it was constructed from 1955 to 1958 to a design by Sir Albert Richardson to serve as the headquarters and printing works of the Financial Times, on a cleared bomb site southeast of St Paul's Cathedral. The central part of the building was substantially altered to plans by Michael Hopkins and Partners between 1988 and 1992. After refurbishments by John Robertson Architects, the Financial Times moved back into Bracken House in spring 2019. It became a Grade II listed building in 1987 – the first building built after the Second World War in England to become listed – and was upgraded to Grade II* in 2013.

Friday Street is a small street in the City of London. The street is reported to have been named either after a fish market held on Fridays (which was traditionally a day of abstinence from meat), or a corruption of the Old English word Frigdaeges. It originally ran between Cheapside and Old Fish Street and was one of the principal thoroughfares of the Bread Street Ward in Mediaeval London. It was partially cleared to construct Queen Victoria Street, and following damage in World War II, only the section between Queen Victoria Street and Cannon Street remains.The street once had three churches: St Margaret Moses, St John the Evangelist and St Matthew. All three were destroyed in the Great Fire of London. St Matthew was rebuilt following the fire, but subsequently demolished.Bracken House sits at the corner of Friday Street and Cannon Street. It was designed by Albert Richardson as the main office and print works of the Financial Times.

Old Change was a street in the City of London, connecting Cheapside to Knightrider Street.The street was originally known as Old Exchange. It was named after a building constructed in the 13th century for coining bullions, which is commemorated by a plaque in the gardens by St Paul's Cathedral. Edward Herbert, 1st Baron Herbert of Cherbury had a house with gardens adjacent to the street. The Church of St Augustine was on the corner of Old Change. It was rebuilt in the late 17th century by Christopher Wren following the Great Fire of London.During the early 18th century, Old Change was inhabited by Armenian merchants who set up numerous silk and woollen warehouses.Old Change was destroyed during World War II. A replacement street, New Change was built slightly to the east of this following the war. The church tower was restored and is now Grade I listed.

The Mermaid Tavern was a tavern on Cheapside in London during the Elizabethan era, located east of St. Paul's Cathedral on the corner of Friday Street and Bread Street. It was the site of the so-called "Fraternity of Sireniacal Gentlemen", a drinking club that met on the first Friday of every month that included some of the Elizabethan era's leading literary figures, among them Ben Jonson, John Donne, John Fletcher and Francis Beaumont, Thomas Coryat, John Selden, Robert Bruce Cotton, Richard Carew, Richard Martin, and William Strachey. A popular tradition has grown up that the group included William Shakespeare, although most scholars think that was improbable.

One New Change is a major office and retail development in the City of London. It comprises 560,000 square feet (52,000 m2) of floor space, including 220,000 square feet (20,000 m2) of retail space and 330,000 square feet (31,000 m2) of office space and is the only large shopping centre in the City of London, the historic nucleus and modern financial centre of London. It cost £500 million to build and was completed in October 2010.The complex is located on New Change, a road linking Cannon Street with Cheapside, in one of the areas of the City historically associated with retailing and markets. It is close to St Paul's Cathedral. The nearest London Underground stations are St Paul's and Mansion House.

St. Matthew Friday Street was a church in the City of London located on Friday Street, off Cheapside. Recorded since the 13th century, the church was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666, then rebuilt by the office of Sir Christopher Wren. The rebuilt church was demolished in 1885.

St Nicholas Cole Abbey is a church in the City of London located on what is now Queen Victoria Street. Recorded from the twelfth century, the church was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666 and rebuilt by the office of Sir Christopher Wren. The church suffered substantial bomb damage from German bombs during the London Blitz in the Second World War and was reconstructed by Arthur Bailey in 1961–2.

The church of St Mildred, Bread Street, stood on the east side of Bread Street in the Bread Street Ward of the City of London. It was dedicated to the 7th century Saint Mildred the Virgin, daughter of Merewald, sub-king of the West Mercians. Of medieval origin, the church was rebuilt to the designs of Sir Christopher Wren following its destruction in the Great Fire of London in 1666. One of the few City churches to retain Wren's original fittings into the 20th century, St Mildred's was destroyed by bombs in 1941.

All Hallows Bread Street was a parish church in the Bread Street ward of the City of London, England. It stood on the east side of Bread Street, on the corner with Watling Street. First mentioned in the 13th century, the church was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666. The church was rebuilt by the office of Sir Christopher Wren and demolished in 1876.
