Commonwealth School

The Boston & Roxbury Mill Dam was an engineering project in Boston's Back Bay. Commissioned in 1814, the project intended to enclose the Back Bay basin and utilize the flowing tidal waters for industrial production. Constructing the dam would allow water to reliably flow from the Charles River to the basin, creating an ideal environment for the era's industrial mills. The project additionally added a second route to the mainland that redirected traffic away from Boston's choked Orange Street causeway. Between 1818 and 1821, the dam was constructed by extending Beacon Street westward.

The Crowninshield House is a historic house at 164 Marlborough Street in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. Built in 1870, it is the first residential design of the renowned architect Henry Hobson Richardson. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Lotta Fountain is a 1939 fountain and sculpture by artist Katharine Lane Weems and architects J. W. Ames and E. S. Dodge. It is installed along Boston's Charles River Esplanade, in the U.S. state of Massachusetts.

The Hotel Vendome Fire Memorial commemorates victims of the Hotel Vendome fire. It is installed along Boston's Commonwealth Avenue Mall, in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. The work was designed by the artist Ted Clausen and landscape architect Peter White. A group of firefighters originally proposed the memorial in 1982, but it was not initially approved by the Boston Arts Commission. The rejected proposal led to claims that the affluent residents of Back Bay had thwarted the proposal out of snobbery, regarding the design as "tacky." The Boston Globe columnist Mike Barnicle attributed the obstruction to the "elitism and self-importance" of those in the neighborhood. The design was finally approved in 1995 and ground was broken the following year.

Bay State College (Bay State or BSC) is a private for-profit college in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. It has an additional campus in Taunton, Massachusetts.The school is owned by Ambow Education Holding Ltd. of the Cayman Islands and Bejing, People's Republic of China. Founded in 1946, Bay State College specializes in career-focused programs, specifically in business, information technology and healthcare. The college offers five Bachelor's degree programs with several concentrations, six Associate's degree programs, and one graduate program partnership.Bay State College has three divisions: Day, Evening and Online.

A bronze bust of congressman and Boston Mayor Patrick Collins is installed along Boston's Commonwealth Avenue, in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. The memorial was dedicated in 1908 and relocated in 1966. It features a bust of Collins on a granite base flanked by two bronze female statues representing America and Ireland. The figures are approximately 7 ft. 6 in. tall and 2 ft wide, and the base measures approximately 11 ft. 6 in. x 10 ft. 1 in. x 6 ft. 8 in. The work was surveyed by the Smithsonian Institution's "Save Outdoor Sculpture!" program in 1993.

The Chilton Club is a private social club established in 1910, in the Back Bay area of Boston, Massachusetts. Founded by Pauline Revere Thayer, the club was intended in part as a counterpoint to the Mayflower Club. The club was named after Mary Chilton because she had been the first woman to step out of the Mayflower. The club occupies a large red brick building on Commonwealth Avenue, designed in 1870 by architect "Henry Richards of the firm of Ware and Van Brunt." (However, some claim the building was designed by architects Peabody and Stearns.) The building has been altered and expanded over the years."On May 18, 1910, the Chilton Club applied for (and subsequently received) permission to significantly remodel and expand the house, including removing the original third floor, with its mansard roof, and adding three additional floors, two of brick and the third "in roof." They also received permission to construct an addition at the rear, 38 feet by 18 feet 9 inches, five stories high above the basement, four of brick and one "in roof." The Club retained the firm of Richardson, Barott, and Richardson, and the work was overseen by F. L. W. Richardson, son of the noted architect Henry Hobson Richardson. The addition was completed in February 1911. ... On May 28, 1926, the Club acquired 150 Commonwealth, which had remained in the Baker Estate until the previous year. A statue of William Lloyd Garrison by Olin Levi Warner is installed along Commonwealth Avenue, in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. It was designed in 1885, cast in 1886, installed on May 13 of that year. The bronze sculpture measures approximately 7 ft. x 4 ft. x 6 ft. 4 in., and rests on a Quincy granite designed by John M. Wells that measures approximately 4 ft. 9 in. x 4 ft. x 6 ft. 4 in. The memorial was surveyed as part of the Smithsonian Institution's "Save Outdoor Sculpture!" program in 1993.

The Charles River Esplanade of Boston, Massachusetts, is a state-owned park situated in the Back Bay area of the city, on the south bank of the Charles River Basin.

The Hotel Vendome fire in the United States was the worst firefighting tragedy in Boston history. Nine firefighters were killed during the final stages of extinguishing a fire on June 17, 1972. The Hotel Vendome was on the southwest corner of the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Dartmouth Street, in the Back Bay area of Boston.

Hotel Agassiz is a historic building in Boston designed by Weston & Rand and built in 1872. It is located at 191 Commonwealth Avenue in the Back Bay. The building was designed for Alexander Agassiz (son of Harvard University naturalist Louis Agassiz) and his brother-in-law Henry Lee Higginson (son of George Higginson who founded the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Alexander Agassiz was the developer and president of the Calumet Mine and Hecla Copper Mines.

The First Baptist Church (or "Brattle Square Church") is an historic American Baptist Churches USA congregation, established in 1665. It is one of the oldest Baptist churches in the United States. It first met secretly in members homes, and the doors of the first church were nailed shut by a decree from the Puritans in March 1680. The church was forced to move to Noddle's Island. The church was forced to be disguised as a tavern and members traveled by water to worship. Rev. Dr. Stillman led the church in the North End for over 40 years, from 1764 to 1807. The church moved to Beacon Hill in 1854, where it was the tallest steeple in the city. After a slow demise under Rev. Dr. Rollin Heber Neale, the church briefly joined with the Shawmut Ave. Church, and the Warren Avenue Tabernacle, and merged and bought the current church in 1881, for $100,000.00. Since 1882 it has been located at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Clarendon Street in the Back Bay. The interior is currently a pending Boston Landmark through the Boston Landmarks Commission.
