Marchbanks Speedway (also Hanford Motor Speedway) was a racetrack located in San Joaquin Valley near Hanford, California. It hosted open-wheel and NASCAR cars, as well as motorcycle racing, in the 1950s and 1960s. The track was subsequently dismantled and destroyed. It was originally built by local farmer B. L. Marchbanks, and named after himself. The track began as a half mile dirt track. It was later paved as a 1.4-mile (2.3 km), high-banked racetrack and also hosted speed runs for watercraft in an infield lake, much as Lake Lloyd at the Daytona International Speedway does today. Three NASCAR races were held at the track. The first was held on the dirt track in 1951. Danny Weinberg won his only NASCAR race. Marvin Porter won the race on the 1.4-mile (2.3 km) paved course in 1960. The NASCAR race record was set March 12, 1961, when Fireball Roberts led all 178 laps of a 250-mile (400 km) race, hosted at the track. He finished two laps ahead of the second place driver.

Kings County Courthouse (California)

The Kings County Courthouse was erected after Kings County, California was formed; it opened in 1896. Constructed in an eclectic mix of styles in a park in the center of Hanford, it was expanded in 1914. The building served as the county's courthouse until 1976 when it was replaced by the new Kings County Government Center on West Lacey Boulevard. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The old courthouse was remodeled in the early 1980s and now houses offices, small shops and restaurants.

The Imperial Dynasty restaurant was a gourmet restaurant in Hanford, California. The restaurant was founded in 1883 in Hanford's Chinatown, and was run by the same family for four generations, having started as a simple noodle house in the 19th century.Richard Wing combined French and Chinese cooking in the 1960s to create one of the first fusion cuisines. The restaurant closed in early 2006 due to the declining health of the owner, who died in 2010 at the age of 89.

The Hanford Joint Union High School District (HJUHSD) serves the northwestern portion of Kings County, California. The schools are located in Hanford, the county seat. HJUHSD in Hanford consists of a total of 3,522 students from Hanford High School, Hanford West High School, Earl F. Johnson Continuation School, and Hanford Adult School. A arts high school, Sierra Pacific High School, opened on August 13, 2009 with 217 freshman. Hanford High School and Hanford West High School each serve approximately 1,700 students. Earl F. Johnson High School serves about 250 students. Hanford Adult School serves a wide variety of students through its many and varied programs. HJUHSD students attend Hanford High School, Hanford West High School or Sierra Pacific High School based on their home address. These attendance areas were created with input from parents and other community members to create neighborhood schools and to balance student population between the schools.
