Stanground

Stanground Wash is a 26 hectare nature reserve in Stanground, a suburb of Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. It is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.The site is sandwiched between the railway, Ely-Peterborough line and Back River, a tributary of the River Nene. It is grassland which is flooded in winter, providing a refuge for waterbirds, and is grazed in the summer. It has a variety of birds such as snipe, redshanks and sandpipers, and ditches with rare beetles.There is access by a footpath from North Street along the south bank of the river to a footbridge, but there is a locked gate 100 yards before the bridge.

Stanground Academy is a co-educational academy school and specialist college for sport, in the city of Peterborough in the United Kingdom. It has capacity for around 1,800 students. The school was established in 1966 as Stanground Secondary Modern School, becoming comprehensive when education in the county was reorganised in 1976. It was officially opened by Alderman Dr. Jack Hunt, chairman of the Education Committee of the then Huntingdon and Peterborough County Council, after whom another local school is named.It has had specialist status as a sports college since 2001 and in 2012, it became an academy when it was handed over by Peterborough City Council to the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust in order to improve the school as it was remarkably behind the national average in most aspects of education and learning. Stanground Academy was finally rebuilt in September 2013 with the original school making way for demolition. This was beneficial in terms of the facilities available to students at the school, and has also solved the many maintenance issues with the former building which had led to the school being closed to students on several occasions in the past due to dangerous conditions for a communal building.Facilities at the school include a pool open for public swimming and a fitness suite/gym which is also open to the public during term time as well as in the half term breaks. Most students are of British or Italian heritage and the majority have English as their first language. However, an increasing number of students are joining the academy having recently arrived in the United Kingdom. Over 15% of students are now from Eastern Europe and many speak little or no English. The proportion of students with learning difficulties or disabilities is above the national average and the economic backgrounds of students are broadly in line with the national average.In conjunction to this, the last Ofsted report filed the school as "good". It has recently claimed to be one of the most improved schools in the United Kingdom.

Stanground North is an unparished area in the Peterborough district, in the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire, England. The 2001 census recorded a population of zero. The parish, which covered open fields on a flood plain of the River Nene.

Stanground Newt Ponds is a 0.8-hectare (2.0-acre) nature reserve in Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. It is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.This site has ponds and a wet meadow, with smooth and great crested newts. Other fauna include common frogs, damselflies and dragonflies.There is access from Hoylake Drive, which bisects the site.

Peterborough Greyhound Stadium was a greyhound racing track located in Fengate, less than a mile from the centre of Peterborough, England.Racing at the stadium took place every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night with racing starting at 7:30 pm.On Tuesday 19 May 2020, the stadium announced that it would cease trading with immediate effect after 75 years.

Old Fletton was an urban district in the county of Huntingdonshire and then (from 1965) Huntingdon and Peterborough. The urban district was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, and now forms part of the city of Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. The urban district was created in 1905, incorporating the parishes of: Fletton (otherwise Fletton Rural or Old Fletton; Fletton Urban or New Fletton was placed in the Municipal Borough of Peterborough in 1894) Stanground South (Stanground North being transferred to Thorney Rural District) Woodston (otherwise Woodston Rural; Woodston Urban was placed in the Municipal Borough of Peterborough in 1894)

Fengate is a predominantly industrial area of the city of Peterborough, in the Peterborough district, in the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire, England. For electoral purposes it forms part of Peterborough East ward. The industrial estate is known as Eastern Industry. Peterborough Power Station is located here. Flag Fen, the Bronze Age archaeological site, was discovered here in 1982 when a team led by Dr. Francis Pryor carried out a survey of dykes in the area. Probably religious, it comprises many poles arranged in five long rows, connecting Whittlesey with Peterborough across the wet fenland. This structure has been compared in rarity and importance to the Balbridie site in Aberdeenshire. The museum exhibits many of the artefacts found, including what is believed to be the oldest wheel in Britain. An exposed section of the Roman road known as the Fen Causeway also crosses the site.

Farcet is a village and civil parish in Cambridgeshire, England. Farcet lies approximately 2 miles (3 km) south of Peterborough city centre, between Yaxley and the Peterborough suburb of Old Fletton. Farcet is situated within Huntingdonshire which is a non-metropolitan district of Cambridgeshire as well as being a historic county of England.The parish of Farcet was established in 1851, having previously been part of the parish of Stanground, its northern neighbour, when the vicarage of Stanground included the curacy of Farcet's village church.

Peterborough ( (listen) PEE-tər-bər-ə, -⁠burr-ə) is a cathedral city in the City of Peterborough district of Cambridgeshire, England. It was formerly governed as part of Northamptonshire and briefly Huntingdon and Peterborough. The city is 76 mi (122 km) north of London, on the River Nene which flows into the North Sea 30 mi (48 km) to the north-east. The local topography is flat, and in some places, the land lies below sea level, for example in parts of the Fens to the east and to the south of Peterborough. Human settlement in the area began before the Bronze Age, as can be seen at the Flag Fen archaeological site to the east of the current city centre, also with evidence of Roman occupation. The Anglo-Saxon period saw the establishment of a monastery, Medeshamstede, which later became Peterborough Cathedral. In 2020 the built-up area subdivision had an estimated population of 179,349. In 2021 the Unitary Authority area had a population of 215,671. The population grew rapidly after the railways along with industry, the town became known for brick manufacture, arrived in the 19th century. After the Second World War, industrial employment fell and growth was limited until its designation as a New Town in the 1960s. The town's main economic sectors are financial services and distribution.

London Road, currently known as the Weston Homes Stadium for sponsorship reasons, is a multi-purpose stadium in Peterborough, England. The stadium is in Fletton, south of the River Nene. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Peterborough United. The stadium holds 15,314 and was built in 1913, though the present ground bears no resemblance to the original following several periods of redevelopment.
