Togus, Maine

The Director's Quarters, Togus Veterans' Administration Center, previously known as the Governor's House, is a historic house on the grounds of the Veterans Administration (VA) facility in Togus, Maine. The house, built in 1869, is historically significant as the only surviving structure of the first National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, established at Togus in 1866 to serve American Civil War veterans. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1974. It is a contributing element of the historic district encompassing the Togus VA campus.

Togus National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located at Togus, Kennebec County, Maine. Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, it encompasses 31.2 acres (12.6 ha), and as of the end of 2020, had more than 5,300 interments. It is closed to new interments.

Chelsea is a town in Kennebec County, Maine, United States. The population was 2,778 at the 2020 census. It is home to the Togus Veterans Administration facilities.

Cony High School is a public school located in Augusta, Maine, United States that educates students from Grades 9 to 12. Cony draws its students from Augusta, as well as the surrounding communities of Chelsea, China, Jefferson, Palermo, Somerville, Vassalboro, Whitefield, and Windsor.The school's origins are in the Cony Female Academy, which was founded in 1815 by Daniel Cony, and originally opened in 1816, to provide free education to orphans and other girls under the age of 16. The school later expanded into a co-ed high school. In the fall of 2006, the city of Augusta opened a new Cony High School adjacent to the Capital Area Technical Center on Pierce Drive. Three years later, it was consolidated with local middle schools, and currently serves grades 7-12. The new building is architecturally linked to the design of the Old Cony High School building which featured a wedge-shaped flatiron design. The flatiron building has been preserved as a building of historical significance and is in the National Register of Historic Places in Maine. As of 2018–19 enrollment for Cony High is approximately 680 students.

WMME-FM (92.3 MHz), known as "92 Moose", is a radio station located in Augusta, Maine. The station airs a Top 40 format. The station has an Effective Radiated Power of 50,000 watts, meaning that the station can be heard across much of Central, Western, and Mid-Coast Maine. WMME's transmitter is located on U.S. Route 202, about 6 Miles Northeast of Downtown Augusta. On weekday mornings, the station airs the "Moose Morning Show", a popular morning program in Central Maine. The station is owned by Townsquare Media. On air personalities include Renee Nelson, Cooper Fox, Brittany Rose, Kayla Thomas and Matt James.

The Viles Arboretum (formerly known as the Pine Tree State Arboretum) 224 acres (90.6 hectares) is a botanical garden and arboretum located in Augusta, Maine, United States, with 5 miles (8 km) of trails, open year round without charge. The plant collection contains over 300 species or varieties of trees and shrubs. The forested portion of the Arboretum is a certified Tree Farm Demonstration Area containing many of Maine's native trees. The Arboretum's principal tree collections and gardens are as follows: Urban & Community Forestry Demonstration Area — The Arboretum's largest collection; over six dozen specimens chosen for their durability in the urban environment. Conifer Collection — North American varieties chosen for interesting characteristics (like the weeping white pine), and other species from around the world. Governors Grove — Over 60 Eastern White Pine, Maine's state tree, each planted in honor of one of Maine's governors. Chestnut Collection — A display of the American chestnut and its close relatives. With help from The American Chestnut Foundation, the Arboretum is developing a Chestnut Plantation with seedlings representing all of Maine's surviving American Chestnuts. Daughters of the American Revolution Historical Gardens — Chosen for aesthetic, medicinal, culinary and home-use qualities, these flowers, herbs and shrubs would have been found in gardens around the time of the American Revolution. Lilac Collection — A collection of lilac varieties blooming white, pink and purple in May. Hosta Garden — Winding through the shade of a white birch grove, this collection of hosta varieties, one of the largest in Maine, was donated by the Case Estate of the Arnold Arboretum in Massachusetts. Native Plant Garden — This newest garden has been incorporated into the landscaping for the new Education Wing of the Viles Visitors Center. It features native plants that are readily available from Maine garden centers and nurseries and encourages visitors to consider using more native plants in their home landscape and avoid using non-native plants that may escape into the wild.

Randolph is a town and a census-designated place (CDP) in Kennebec County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,743 at the 2020 census. The town was named for Randolph, Massachusetts. Randolph is included in the Augusta, Maine micropolitan New England City and Town Area.

The Ella R. Hodgkins Intermediate School, also known as the Hodgkins Middle School, is a historic school building at 17 Malta Street in Augusta, Maine, USA. Built in 1958, it is a well-preserved example of a mid-20th century Modern Movement school building. Its construction marked the end of a major push by the city to modernize its facilities. It was used as a school until 2009. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

The John Davis House is a historic house on River Road in Chelsea, Maine. Probably built between 1815 and 1820, it is a fine local example of a Federal period brick house, rivalling in quality those found in more urban environments of the period. It was probably built by John Davis, a local housewright of some renown. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Governor Samuel Cony House also known as the William Payson Viles House, is an historic house at 71 Stone Street in Augusta, Maine. Built in 1846, it is a fine example of a Greek Revival house altered with Classical Revival features in the 20th century. It was home for 20 years to Samuel Cony, Governor of Maine from 1864 to 1867, and also his son-in-law, Joseph Homan Manley. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Riverview Psychiatric Center, also known as Riverview Psychiatric Recovery Center, is a psychiatric hospital in Augusta, Maine, operated by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. The center recruits for volunteers from the United Way for certain services.

The Maine Insane Hospital, later the Augusta Mental Health Institute (AMHI), was a psychiatric hospital in Augusta, Maine. It was the principal facility for the care and treatment of Maine's mentally ill from 1840 to 2004, and its surviving buildings represent the oldest surviving complex of mental care facilities in the United States. The complex is located on the east bank of the Kennebec River, immediately south of the former Kennebec Arsenal, and now primarily houses state offices. In 2004, the hospital was replaced by the Riverview Psychiatric Center, located just to the south. The hospital's core complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, with the listing enlarged to encompass the entire campus in 2001.
