Füssen is a town in Bavaria, Germany, in the district of Ostallgäu, situated one kilometre from the Austrian border. The town is known for violin manufacturing and as the closest transportation hub for the Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles. As of 2022-12-31, the town has a population of 15,985.

St. Mang's Abbey, Füssen or Füssen Abbey (German: Kloster Sankt Mang Füssen) was a Benedictine monastery in Füssen in Bavaria, Germany. It was founded in the 9th century, and dissolved during the post-Napoleonic secularisation of Bavaria.

Füssen Station is the station in the town of Füssen, Bavaria, Germany. It has two platform tracks and is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 6 station. It is served by about 20 trains of Deutsche Bahn daily and used by approximately 2,700 passengers daily. The station is the terminus of the Biessenhofen–Füssen railway, also known as the König-Ludwig-Bahn ("King Ludwig Railway"). It is the closest station to Neuschwanstein Castle. Apart from Füssen station, the town once had a station called Hopfensee. In addition, Ulrichsbrücke-Füssen station on the Ausserfern Railway is named after the town; it is about five kilometres to the southwest in Austria.

Musiktheater Füssen is a theatre in the town of Füssen in Bavaria, Germany dedicated to musical performances related to King Ludwig II of Bavaria.

The Alpsee is a lake in the Ostallgäu district of Bavaria, Germany, located about 4 kilometres southeast of Füssen. It is close to the Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles. The lake has just under five kilometres of shoreline and a depth of up to 62 metres.

Pinswang is a municipality in the Austrian Ausserfern region of the northern Tyrol. It lies on the border with the Allgäu region of Bavaria in Germany.

The Vils is a 36-kilometre-long (22 mi) river, a left tributary of the Lech in the Alps of Austria and Germany. The Vils has a drainage basin of approximately 200 km2 (77 sq mi), with an average annual precipitation of nearly 2,000 mm (80 in). It originates in the Allgäu Alps in Tyrol from the supplies of the Vilsalpsee, and is its only discharge. Its water flows first in the northern and northwestern directions, in the Reutte district through the Vils Valley and the Tannheim Valley. In the latter valley it runs alongside the B 199 road through Tannheim, Zoeblen and Schattwald. From here the Vils descends down the waterfall Vilsfall, only slightly east/northeast of the Oberjoch Pass and only a few hundred metres east of the border to Germany. Then the river crosses the border into southern Bavaria, turns northeast and reaches the municipality Pfronten in the district Ostallgäu. Then it flows eastwards along the B 308, again crossing the border into Tyrol, flows below the Tannheim Mountains slightly south of the German border and parallel to this through the municipality Vils. After crossing the B 179 underneath it flows directly into the Lech. With an average discharge of 76.8 cubic metres per second (2,710 cu ft/s), the Vils is among the largest rivers in Bavaria.

Schwangau is a municipality in the district of Ostallgäu in Bavaria, Germany. The village lies 4 km from the larger town of Füssen and just 1.5 km from Hohenschwangau, a collection of tourist-oriented facilities adjacent to the major tourist attractions of Schloss Neuschwanstein and Schloss Hohenschwangau. Schwangau has no railway station, but is served by buses connecting to Füssen, Hohenschwangau, and other nearby Alpine towns. It is the next-to-last town on the Romantic Road tourist route that terminates in Füssen. A castrum Swangowe is attested in 1090. It was situated on the site of Neuschwanstein Castle and was owned by the Elder House of Welf. After the death of Welf VI in 1191, it fell to the Staufer dynasty, and in 1268 to the empire. The coat of arms of the municipality is based on the one shown in the Codex Manesse as that of Hiltbolt von Schwangau (d. 1256).

Hohenschwangau Castle (German: Schloss Hohenschwangau) is a 19th-century palace in southern Germany. It was the childhood residence of King Ludwig II of Bavaria and was built by his father, King Maximilian II of Bavaria. It is located in the German village of Hohenschwangau near the town of Füssen, part of the county of Ostallgäu in southwestern Bavaria, Germany, very close to the border with Austria.

Hohenschwangau is a former village and now an urban district of the municipality of Schwangau, Ostallgäu district, Bavaria, Germany. It is located between Schloss Neuschwanstein and Schloss Hohenschwangau and is visited by about 2 million people annually, where they start tours to the former royal palaces. The village is dominated by car parks, restaurants, guesthouses, hotels and souvenir shops. Hohenschwangau is bordered by the Alpsee in the West. Here the Museum of the Bavarian Kings was established in 2011 in a former ancient hotel building (Alpseestraße 27). The actress and singer Helen Vita was born in Hohenschwangau.
