Mildenhall, Wiltshire

The Cunetio Hoard, also known as the Mildenhall Hoard, is the largest hoard of Roman coins found in Britain. It was discovered in 1978 at the site of the Roman town of Cunetio, near modern-day Mildenhall, Wiltshire, and consisted of 54,951 low value coins. The coins were contained in a large pot and a lead container. The coins are now in the British Museum and the pot is on display at the Wiltshire Museum in Devizes.

Cunetio was a large walled town in a valley of the River Kennet in modern-day Wiltshire, England. The settlement was occupied from the 2nd century CE by Romano-British people until the post-Roman period, and was abandoned in the early 5th century. Its site is near the village of Mildenhall, about 1+1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) east of the market town of Marlborough. The entire town lay undiscovered until it was identified from aerial photos in the 1940s. Archaeological excavations have revealed that the town was a substantial urban area defended by large masonry walls. Artefacts recovered from the site include kitchenware, personal effects, and two hoards of Roman coinage.

Marlborough railway stations refers to the two railway stations which served Marlborough, Wiltshire, England, until 1964. The stations were on separate routes. A branch line was built by an independent railway friendly to the Great Western Railway (GWR) from Savernake to Marlborough in 1864. A north–south railway, later to be part of a long-distance trunk route, opened from Swindon to its own station at Marlborough in 1881, extending south to Andover in 1881. The two routes came under the same management at the "Grouping" of the railways in 1923 and some rationalisation took place. Passenger services to Marlborough were withdrawn in 1961 and goods services in 1964.

Marlborough Royal Free Grammar School, previously known as Marlborough Grammar School and King Edward's School, Marlborough, was a grammar school in the town of Marlborough, in Wiltshire, England, founded in 1550. Originally for boys only, the school became co-educational in 1906. Over a period of more than four hundred years, it had a number of homes around Marlborough. In 1975 it was closed, and its final buildings were re-used for the new St John's Marlborough comprehensive school.

The River Og is a short river in Wiltshire, England. It rises near the hamlet of Draycot Foliat, and flows south for about 3.1 km (1.9 miles) through Ogbourne St George, Ogbourne St Andrew and Ogbourne Maizey to the eastern edge of Marlborough, where it joins the River Kennet.The river flows through a gap in the Marlborough Downs, which creates a natural transport route, now followed by the A346 and once used by the Midland and South Western Junction Railway. The Og's name is a back-formation from Ogbourne, which itself means Occa's stream.

St Mary's Church is the Church of England parish church in the town of Marlborough, Wiltshire, England. The church stands at the east end of the town's High Street. Founded in the 12th century, it was partly rebuilt after a fire of 1653, and extended in 1874. It is a Grade I listed building.

Savernake is a civil parish immediately south and southeast of Marlborough in Wiltshire, England. The settlements in the parish are the hamlets of Cadley, Clench Common and Forest Hill. Savernake Forest covers the eastern half of the parish.

St John's Marlborough (formerly St John's School and Community College) is a mixed secondary school with academy status in Marlborough, Wiltshire, England, for students aged 11 to 18. The school opened in 1975 and is in the south of the town. As of November 2023 it has 1,728 pupils.

Marlborough Town Hall is a municipal building in the High Street in Marlborough, Wiltshire, England. The structure, which is the meeting place of Marlborough Town Council, is a Grade II listed building.

Marlborough and Ramsbury was a rural district in Wiltshire, England from 1935 to 1974. It was formed by a County Review Order in 1935 as a merger of the Marlborough Rural District and the Ramsbury Rural District. It entirely surrounded the municipal borough of Marlborough. In 1974, it was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972, becoming part of the new Kennet district. In 1945 the council bought a large Georgian house called Axholme House at 47 London Road in Marlborough and converted it to become its headquarters. The council remained based there until its abolition in 1974.

Ogbourne St Andrew is a civil parish and small village in Wiltshire, England, 2 miles (3.2 km) north of Marlborough. The parish is on the banks of the River Og and includes the hamlets of Ogbourne Maizey and Rockley.
