Hodnet

St Luke's Church is in the village of Hodnet, Shropshire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Hodnet, the archdeaconry of Salop, and the diocese of Lichfield. Its benefice is united with those of The Epiphany, Peplow, and St Luke, Weston under Redcastle. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. It overlooks the park of Hodnet Hall.

Hodnet Hall is a country house and estate in Hodnet, Shropshire, England. Hodnet Old Hall was a timber-framed manor house surrounded by the park which was recorded on Christopher Saxton's Map of Shropshire in the late 16th century. Historically it was owned by the Heber family, the family of the noted English cleric Reginald Heber. In 1752 a Richard Heber received the manor and estate as a bequest from a cousin of his wife. On Richard Heber's death in 1766 his brother, named Reginald, who had taken Holy Orders and was co-rector of the parish of Malpas in Cheshire, inherited the estate. The old hall was demolished in 1870 when a new hall in the neo-Elizabethan style was built. It was the boyhood home of Robert Heber-Percy, known as "the Mad Boy" and "an English eccentric in the grand tradition".In the 20th century the hall was used as a convalescent hospital during the world wars, and in World War II there was an airfield in the grounds for the storage and dispersal of aircraft from Ternhill and RAF Shawbury.Today the hall is particularly noted for its gardens, created in 1922 when rare trees, shrubs and a chain of seven lakes and pools was added. The gardens contains rhododendrons, camellias, crocuses, daffodils and magnolias. They are open to the public on Sundays and Bank Holidays from early April to late September.

Wollerton Halt was a small railway station in the village of Wollerton in Shropshire, England. The station was on the Wellington and Drayton Railway between Market Drayton and Wellington. It was closed at the beginning of September 1963.

Wollerton is a small village within the civil parish of Hodnet in Shropshire, England. It lies approximately three miles to the south west of Market Drayton and sits on the old A53 and adjacent to the new Hodnet bypass which forms the new route of the A53. Since the construction of the Hodnet bypass, Wollerton's public house, The Squirrel, has closed and no other amenities other than a URC chapel remain. The village used to have a railway station, Wollerton Halt on the Wellington and Drayton Railway until the line was dismantled in 1970.The Old Hall is a Grade II* listed building.

The Wellington and Drayton Railway was a standard gauge line in Central England which carried through freight and local passenger traffic until closure in the 1960s. It was part of the Great Western Railway's double track Wellington-Crewe line, linking the Midlands to the north and northwest.

Peplow railway station was a station in Peplow, Shropshire, England. The station was opened in 1867 and closed in 1963. The track has been infilled to form the garden for the station house which is now a private residence along with a waiting shelter on the northbound platform.

Peplow is a hamlet in Shropshire, England. It is part of the civil parish of Hodnet, a larger village to the north. The hamlets of Bowling Green and Radmoor are both in the village's vicinity. It lies in a rural area on the A442 road, between Crudgington and Hodnet, with Ollerton immediately to the east. At the time of the Domesday survey, the manor of Peplow was held by Ranulph de Mortimer. The land later became part of the Hodnet estate, and was held by the Ludlow and Vernon families, until 1715 when it was sold to the Pigot family, who built Peplow Hall.The hamlet is best known for Peplow Hall, an 18th-century manor house, and Peplow Mill. The mill contains an early water turbine dating from 1820 and spans the River Tern. There is a cricket club called Hodnet and Peplow CC, and the club's badge is that of a gold lion (from the gates of Hodnet Hall), lying beneath a green beech tree (representing the beech trees lining the driveway of Peplow Hall). Its first eleven play in the Rollinson Smith Shropshire Cricket League Division 3.

Royal Air Force Tern Hill or RAF Tern Hill (ICAO: EGOE) was a Royal Air Force station at Ternhill in Shropshire, England, near the towns of Newport and Market Drayton. The station closed in 1976, with the technical and administrative site transferring to the British Army to become Borneo Barracks, later renamed Clive Barracks (after Major-General Robert Clive). The airfield part of the site was retained by the RAF and is now known as Tern Hill Airfield. It is predominantly used as a relief landing ground for helicopters of the No 1 Flying Training School, based at RAF Shawbury. The airfield is also home to the RAF's No. 632 Volunteer Gliding Squadron.
