The McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, part of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was founded as the College of Arts and Letters, part of the "Pittsburgh Catholic College" in 1878. The school's first pharmacy class matriculated in September 1925 under the leadership of the founding dean, Dr. Hugh C. Muldoon, and graduated in 1928. In May 2000, the School of Pharmacy graduated its first entry-level Doctor of Pharmacy class. The School of Pharmacy is housed in Duquesne University's Mellon Hall of Science, with new administrative, faculty, and student services offices located in the adjacent Bayer Learning Center.

Duquesne University School of Law is a private Catholic university law school located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is approved by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools. Dean April M. Barton joined the school in 2019 as its 13th dean. The School of Law was founded in 1911, and is the only multiple-division law school in western Pennsylvania. Located on the 47-acre (190,000 m2) Duquesne University campus, the law school is walking distance to Pittsburgh's downtown legal, corporate, and government communities. The School of Law currently boasts over 5,800 alumni practicing in every field of law, in all 50 states and several foreign countries. Additionally, as of 2017, Duquesne's Legal Writing program is ranked 14th in the United States.According to Duquesne's 2018 ABA-required disclosures, admission acceptance rate is 58% while 71.6% of the Class of 2018 obtained full-time, long-term, JD-required employment ten months after graduation, excluding solo practitioners.The 2020 U.S. News and World Report law school ranking, released March 12, 2019, ranked Duquesne University School of Law at 122. The part-time evening J.D. program is ranked No. 40 in the nation.

The School of Education is one of the ten constituent colleges that compromise Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1929, the school was organized by Holy Ghost Father and future university president Raymond V. Kirk, who led the school until 1940. Currently, the School of Education is principally housed in the historic Canevin Hall, the oldest building on Duquesne's campus still used for classes.

Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit ( or ; Duquesne University or Duquesne) is a private research university in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded by members of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, Duquesne first opened as the Pittsburgh Catholic College of the Holy Ghost in October 1878 with an enrollment of 40 students and a faculty of six. In 1911, the college became the first Catholic university-level institution in Pennsylvania. It is the only Spiritan institution of higher education in the world. It is named for an 18th-century governor of New France, Michel-Ange Duquesne de Menneville. Duquesne has since expanded to over 9,300 graduate and undergraduate students within a self-contained 49-acre (19.8 ha) hilltop campus in Pittsburgh's Bluff neighborhood. The school maintains an associate campus in Rome and encompasses ten schools of study. The university hosts international students from more than 80 countries although most students—about 80%—are from Pennsylvania or the surrounding region. Duquesne is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity". There are more than 93,000 living alumni of the university including two cardinals and the current bishop of Pittsburgh. The Duquesne Dukes compete in NCAA Division I. Duquesne men's basketball appeared twice in national championship games in the 1950s and won the NIT championship in 1955.

Over half of the region's population resides within Allegheny County, which has a population of 1.24 million and is the second-largest county in the state.

The Try Street Terminal (now "Terminal 21 Apartments", a luxury loft-style apartment building) in the Central Business District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is former 1921 freight terminal and warehouse designed in the "commercial utilitarian" style. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.In 2011, the building and its streetscape were featured in the music video Black and Yellow.

Church of the Epiphany located at Washington Place and Centre Avenue in the Hill District neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was built in 1902. The church was added to the List of Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmarks in 1998. It is situated next to PPG Paints Arena.
