Brookthorpe

Brookthorpe-with-Whaddon, formerly just Brookthorpe is a civil parish in the Stroud district of Gloucestershire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 308, increasing to 322 at the 2011 census. In 2019 the population was estimated at 395. It consists of the small villages of Brookthorpe and Whaddon, both to the south of Gloucester. Whaddon is almost contiguous with the Gloucester suburb of Tuffley, while Brookthorpe is 1 mile (1.6 km) farther south, on the other side of the M5 motorway and close to the escarpment of the Cotswold hills. To the north of the parish is the unparished area of the City of Gloucester. Parishes adjoining Brookthorpe-with-Whaddon are: Upton St Leonards to the north-east; Painswick to the east; Harescombe to the south; Haresfield to the south-west; and Quedgeley to the west. The last is in Gloucester district, the others are in Stroud district.

St Swithun's Church is a historic Anglican church in the village of Brookthorpe, Gloucestershire, England under the care of The Churches Conservation Trust. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

St Margaret's Church is a 13th-century Church of England church in the village of Whaddon, Gloucestershire, England. It has been a grade II* listed building since 10 January 1955. The church tower is a dominant feature within the surrounding flat area.

Gloucester Services are a pair of Motorway Service Areas (MSA) serving the northbound and southbound carriageways of the M5 between Junction 11A and Junction 12, near Whaddon, Gloucester. It specialises in selling artisanal food, and does not offer outlets for popular chain food brands. Fuel is provided by Esso and electric vehicle charging facilities are available. Construction of the northbound services began in early 2013, and they officially opened on 7 May 2014. Construction of the southbound services commenced in March 2014 and they opened on 19 May 2015.

Harescombe is a small village in Gloucestershire, England. It is situated 5 miles (8 km) south of Gloucester. It is thought the name of the village is derived from a combination of the Celtic term "cwm" (valley) and the Saxon term "here" (army), thus the full meaning of "Harescombe" would be "the Army's Valley".The community is indeed in a valley as it rests at the foot of the well-known range of the Cotswolds called the Haresfield Beacon and Broadbarrow Green, which were sites of ancient British and Roman encampments. Range Farm Fields (grid reference SO850130) is a 12.8-hectare (32-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, near to Gloucester City, notified in 1996.

St Peter's High School and Sixth Form Centre is a Roman Catholic academy school and sixth form centre, on Stroud Road in the Tuffley area of Gloucester, England. The head teacher is Kevin McDermott. Robin's Wood Hill Quarry (grid reference SO836148) is a 1.67-hectare (4.1-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, on Robinswood Hill, notified in 1966.

Robinswood Hill (grid reference SO840150) is a hill and country park to the south of the city centre of Gloucester, close to the Stroud Road (A4173). It rises to 650 ft (198 m), and is owned and managed by Gloucester City Council's Countryside Unit. The Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust also has its head office based here. It was originally one of the main sources of water to the city. The springs rising on Robin's Wood Hill were used by Gloucester Abbey in the 13th century. Reservoirs were built by the Gloucester Water Company in 1837-8 and taken over by the City in 1855. Robinswood Hill ceased to provide water supply in 1924 but the reservoirs remained in use for storage until 1946; they have now been backfilled to provide car parks and a countryside centre for the thousands of visitors that use the hill for recreation and inspiration. It is home to several species of wildlife, and has views of the surrounding area - including other hills of Gloucester, the Cotswolds, Malvern Hills, May Hill and on a clear day the Severn Bridges. The country park itself is a 100-hectare (250-acre) site. On the other side of the Hill is a dry ski slope and golf course complex. The park is a Local Nature Reserve, and an area called Robin's Wood Hill Quarry is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust is the Gloucestershire local partner in a conservation network of 46 Wildlife Trusts. The Wildlife Trusts are local charities with the specific aim of protecting the United Kingdom's natural heritage. The Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust is managed by a board of trustees elected from its membership who provide overall direction for the development of the trust and there are advisory committees. The work of the trust is carried out through staff and volunteers.
