Hong Kong SkyCity is a large business and entertainment complex adjacent to Hong Kong International Airport, and is built on land owned by the Airport Authority Hong Kong. It currently includes the AsiaWorld–Expo, Terminal 2 (SkyPlaza) and SkyPier.

AsiaWorld–Expo is the western terminus of the Airport Express of the Hong Kong MTR. It serves the AsiaWorld–Expo in the northeast corner of Chek Lap Kok, the island on which the Hong Kong International Airport is located. The AsiaWorld–Expo is an exhibition centre designed to host large scale events located adjacent to Hong Kong International Airport. The Airport Express was extended with a new station at AsiaWorld–Expo to accommodate visitors and organisers.

Skypier (Chinese: 海天客運碼頭) is a cross-border ferry pier integrated within Hong Kong International Airport, Chek Lap Kok, New Territories, Hong Kong. It is operated by Hong Kong International Airport Ferry Terminal Services Limited, a joint-venture company between Chu Kong Passenger Transport Co., Ltd and Shun Tak-China Travel Ship Management Limited. At this pier, passengers aboard can transit from Hong Kong International Airport to piers in the Pearl River Delta of Guangdong Province or vice versa, without immigration and customs clearance through Hong Kong.

The AsiaWorld–Expo is one of the two major convention and exhibition facilities in Hong Kong along with Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It was opened on 21 December 2005 by Donald Tsang, the second Chief Executive of Hong Kong, and it is operated by AsiaWorld–Expo Management Limited. It is located on Chek Lap Kok island, next to the Hong Kong International Airport.

AsiaWorld–Arena (Chinese: 亞洲國際博覽館 Arena, also Hall 1 of AsiaWorld–Expo) is the largest indoor seated performance venue in Hong Kong. It has a total floor area of 10,880 square metres (117,100 square feet), a maximum capacity of 14,000 seats/16,000 standing+seats and high ceiling clearance of 19 metres. It is located next to the Hong Kong International Airport. It plays host to many concerts, sporting events, and other forms of entertainment.

Hong Kong (Area Control Centre) (ICAO: VHHK) is one of two key area control centres in the Pearl River Delta and is under the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department. HK ACC is based out of the control tower at Hong Kong International Airport. From this ACC, air traffic controllers provide en route and terminal control services to aircraft in the Hong Kong Flight Information Region (FIR). The Hong Kong FIR airspace covers the waters off Hong Kong to the south, southeast and southwest. This does not include the airspace and immediate waters off the mainland China and Macau (under Guangzhou FIR). HK ACC does handle flight in and out of Macau International Airport.

Chek Lap Kok is an island in the western waters of Hong Kong's New Territories. Unlike the smaller Lam Chau, it was only partially leveled when it was assimilated via land reclamation into the 12.48 square kilometres (4.82 sq mi) island for the current Hong Kong International Airport, which opened for commercial aviation in 1998. The airport is popularly referred to as Chek Lap Kok Airport to distinguish it from the former Hong Kong International Airport, now commonly known as Kai Tak Airport (啟德機場). Hong Kong SkyCity, a business and entertainment complex, is also located on Chek Lap Kok. It includes AsiaWorld–Expo, a convention and exhibition centre, which opened in 2005. Cathay Pacific City, the head office of Cathay Pacific; HAECO, and formerly Hong Kong Airlines are also located on the airport platform.

China Airlines Flight 642 was a flight that crashed at Hong Kong (Chep Lap Kok) International Airport on 22 August 1999. It was operating from Bangkok (Bangkok International Airport, now renamed Don Mueang International Airport) to Taipei with a stopover in Hong Kong.The plane, a McDonnell Douglas MD-11 (registration B-150), was still carrying Mandarin Airlines' livery from its time of service with the carrier. While landing during a typhoon, it touched down hard, flipped over and caught fire. Of the 315 people on board, 312 survived and three were killed. It was the first fatal accident to occur at the new Hong Kong International airport since it opened in July 1998.Flight 642 was one of only three hull losses of MD-11s with passenger configuration, one other being Swissair Flight 111, which crashed in 1998 with 229 fatalities. All other hull losses of MD-11s have been when the aircraft has been serving as a cargo aircraft.

Cathay Pacific City (Chinese: 國泰城; Jyutping: gwok3 taai3 sing4), often referred as Cathay City, is the headquarters of Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong's flag-carrying airline. It is located at Hong Kong International Airport, on the south side.

Tung Chung Development Pier (Chinese: 東涌發展碼頭) also known as Tung Chung New Development Ferry Pier (東涌新發展碼頭) and Tung Chung New Ferry Pier (東涌新碼頭) is a ferry pier in Tung Chung Waterfront Road (東涌海濱路), Tung Chung, Lantau Island, New Territories, Hong Kong. It was built to replace Tung Chung Old Ferry Pier that is located further west, in Ma Wan Chung (馬灣涌).

Hong Kong International Airport (IATA: HKG, ICAO: VHHH) is a major international airport and the primary airport that serves Hong Kong, a special administrative region (SAR) of China. The airport is built entirely on reclaimed land on the island of Chek Lap Kok at the west of the city. The airport is also referred to as Chek Lap Kok International Airport or Chek Lap Kok Airport, to distinguish it from its predecessor, the former Kai Tak Airport.Having been in commercial operation since 1998, Hong Kong International Airport is one of the largest trans-shipment centres, passenger hubs and gateways for destinations in to and from Greater China, Asia and the world. The airport is the world's busiest cargo gateway and one of the world's busiest passenger airports. It is also home to one of the world's largest passenger terminal buildings, and was the largest when it had first opened in 1998. The airport is operated by the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHH), a statutory body of the local government and was established on 1 December 1995. It runs 24 hours a day and is the primary hub for Cathay Pacific, Greater Bay Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, HK Express and Air Hong Kong (cargo carrier). The airport is one of the hubs of Oneworld, and is also one of the Asia-Pacific cargo hubs for UPS Airlines. It is a focus city for China Airlines and China Eastern Airlines. Ethiopian Airlines utilise Hong Kong as a stopover point for their flights.HKIA is an important contributor to the city's economy, with approximately 65,000 employees. More than 100 airlines operate flights from the airport to over 180 cities across the globe. In 2015, HKIA handled 68.5 million passengers, making it the 8th busiest airport worldwide by passenger traffic and the 4th busiest airport worldwide by international passenger traffic. Since 2010, it has also surpassed Memphis International Airport to become the world's busiest airport by cargo traffic – except in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.To facilitate the increased traffic due to the third runway, Terminal 2 has been undergoing redevelopment since 2019 and will not reopen until the mid-2020s. The Center Runway has also been closed for upgrades and also will not reopen until the mid-2020s.

Cathay Pacific Flight 780 was a flight from Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, Indonesia, to Hong Kong International Airport on 13 April 2010. On board were 309 passengers and a crew of 13. As Flight 780 neared Hong Kong, the crew were unable to change the thrust output of the engines. The aircraft, an Airbus A330-342, landed at almost twice the speed of a normal landing, suffering minor damage. The 57 passengers who sustained injuries were hurt in the ensuing slide evacuation; one of them received serious injuries.The cause of the accident was contamination of the fuel taken on board at Surabaya, which gradually damaged both engines of the aircraft.The flight's two Australian pilots, Captain Malcolm Waters and First Officer David Hayhoe, who safely landed the aircraft despite the extraordinary challenge, have been compared to pilots Chesley Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles of US Airways Flight 1549 the previous year (January 2009). In March 2014, the two Flight 780 pilots were awarded the Polaris Award by the International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations for their heroism and airmanship.Captain Waters, who was 35 years old, had been working for Cathay Pacific for 12 years, while 37-year-old Hayhoe had been working for Cathay Pacific for 3 years and had previously served with the Royal Australian Air Force for 11 years.
