Marwood is a civil parish in County Durham, England. It had a population of 529 at the 2011 Census.

Radio Teesdale was a community radio station in Barnard Castle, County Durham, serving the Teesdale area of England and owned and operated by Teesdale Community Broadcasting Limited, a not-for-profit community group. Radio Teesdale could be heard on FM radio on the frequencies 102.1 and 105.5 MHz in the Teesdale area.

Barnard Castle railway station was situated on the South Durham & Lancashire Union Railway (Stainmore Line) between Bishop Auckland and Kirkby Stephen East. The railway station served the town of Barnard Castle. The first station (at grid reference NZ053169) was opened on the Darlington and Barnard Castle Railway on 9 July 1856, and was closed to passengers on 1 May 1862 when services were diverted to the second station on the South Durham & Lancashire Railway which had opened in 1861. Freight traffic continued to use the first station until 1965. Despite being a junction station for three lines, Barnard Castle only had one through platform and two bay platforms. Regular passenger services to Tebay ceased in 1952, with the remainder of the Stainmore Line to Bishop Auckland and Kirkby Stephen East shutting in 1962. The station remained in use for the lines to Darlington and Middleton-in-Teesdale until 1964 when it was shut as the result of the Beeching Axe. Today the site of the second station is a car park for the nearby GlaxoSmithKline factory. The first station has been converted into private houses and the first station's portico now resides in Valley Gardens in Saltburn.

Crag Gill is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in the Teesdale district in south-west County Durham, England. It lies about 3 km east of the village of Eggleston, just off the B6282 road, which separates it from the Bollihope, Pikestone, Eggleston and Woodland Fells SSSI to the north. Crag Gill consists of an exposure of late Namurian limestones, sandstones and shales that form a Yoredale-type sequence. The exposure is the type locality of the Whitestone limestone, a marker horizon for Namurian stratigraphy.

Stainton is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated to the north east of Barnard Castle.

Barnard Castle (, BAR-nəd) is a market town on the north bank of the River Tees, in County Durham, England. The town is named after and built around a ruined medieval castle. The town's Bowes Museum has an 18th-century Silver Swan automaton exhibit and paintings by Goya and El Greco. Barnard Castle is on the left bank of the River Tees, opposite to Startforth, and is 21 miles (34 km) south-west of the county town of Durham. Nearby towns include Bishop Auckland to the north-east, Darlington to the east and Richmond to the south-east. The largest employer is GlaxoSmithKline, with a manufacturing facility on the town's outskirts.

The Tees railway viaduct was a railway bridge in the county of Durham, England, which carried the South Durham and Lancashire Union Railway over the River Tees west of Barnard Castle.

Barnard Castle was a rural district in County Durham, England from 1894 to 1974. It was named after Barnard Castle but did not include it. It was created in 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894 as the part of the former Teesdale rural sanitary district that was in County Durham (the rest going on to form Startforth Rural District in the North Riding of Yorkshire). In 1937 it was much expanded when a County Review Order disbanded the Auckland Rural District, transferring much of it to Barnard Castle RD. It was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, the area going on to form part of the Teesdale district.

Teesdale was, from 1974 to 2009, a local government district in County Durham, England. Its council was based in Barnard Castle and it was named after the valley of the River Tees. That part of the district south of the River Tees is historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire, and made up Startforth Rural District before the Local Government Act 1972 came into effect in 1974. The other predecessors to the district were Barnard Castle Urban District and Barnard Castle Rural District. Much of the area had before 1894 constituted a single Teesdale rural sanitary district. The district was the least-populous ordinary district in England (with a population of 24,457 in 2001), with only the City of London and the Isles of Scilly being smaller. It also had the third-lowest population density in England, after the former districts of Eden in Cumbria and Tynedale in Northumberland. The district was abolished as part of the 2009 structural changes to local government in England.

National Cycle Route 14 forms part of the National Cycle Network in North East England. It connects Darlington in County Durham with South Shields on the River Tyne. The route has currently (2016) a length of 86 miles (138 km). Much of it uses paths along disused railway lines and is thus free from motor traffic.
