Fairmount Township, Grant County, Indiana

Fairmount is a town in Fairmount Township, Grant County in the east central part of the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 2,954 at the 2010 census. It is 55 miles (88 km) northeast of Indianapolis. Largely a bedroom community for nearby Marion, Fairmount is best known as the boyhood home of actor James Dean, who is buried there.

J.W. Patterson House is a historic home and office located at Fairmount, Grant County, Indiana. The house was built between 1887 and 1890, and is a two-story, brick dwelling with Queen Anne and Stick Style design elements. It has a slate covered hipped roof with gables and wraparound front porch. Also on the property is a one-story detached cottage that served as a doctor's office. It was the home and office of prominent local physician Dr. J.W. Patterson.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, with a boundary increase in 1985.

It encompasses 14 contributing buildings and 3 contributing structures in a predominantly residential section of Fairmount. It was developed between about 1857 and 1930, and includes notable examples of Queen Anne and Greek Revival style architecture. Notable buildings include the Jonathan Baldwin House (1858), John Wilson Harvey houses (1893 and 1903), and the Gothic Revival style Fairmount Wesleyan Church (1916).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

It encompasses 31 contributing buildings in the central business district of Fairmount. It developed between about 1884 and 1945, and includes notable examples of Italianate and Romanesque Revival style architecture. Notable buildings include the Scott Opera House (1884), M.A. Hiatt Building (1900), Bogue Block (1889), J.W. Dale Block (1889), Fairmount Block (1901), Fairmount Public Library (1891-1893), Odd Fellow Block (1902), and Masonic Temple (1904).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Madison-Grant High School is a public high school located in unincorporated Grant County, Indiana, near Fairmount. It is the only high school in the United States with the Argyll mascot. It is a part of the Madison-Grant United School Corporation. Madison-Grant High School is located at 11700 S. State Road 9., about one half mile from the Madison County/Grant County line. In Grant County it serves Fairmount, Fowlerton, and Point Isabel, and in Madison County it serves Summitville.

Gas City High School, also known as the East Ward School, is a historic school building located at Gas City, Grant County, Indiana, United States. It was built in 1894, and is a two-story, square, Romanesque Revival style brick and stone building. A two-story Prairie School inspired addition was completed in 1923. The two buildings are connected by a two-story "bridge".: 5 It is no longer used as a high school and is instead now used as the current administration building for Mississinewa Community School Corporation (MCSC). It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

West Ward School, also known as the West Building Mississinewa Community Schools, is a historic school building located at Gas City, Grant County, Indiana. It was built between 1900 and 1902, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, rectangular, Richardsonian Romanesque style brick and stone building. It features a symmetrical main facade with round towers at each corner topped by conical roofs.: 2–3  The building houses a museum and community center. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
